  1. We have a number of cats roaming on our property at the moment. I believe they are owned as one has a collar. They are crapping on our garden, upsetting the dogs and spraying everywhere. I can get a trap off council but there may be a wait so I am looking into other deterrents in the meantime. Does anyone know if there is any kind of spray/smelly type things that I can use to keep them away? Frankly I'm not happy about having to even spend any time or money on someone elses pets but till I can get the trap, I may have to. Thanks in advance :)
  2. Oh miss sending good thoughts to Spud. He's in good hands, let us know how he goes.
  3. My Anatolian x Maremma has lightish eyes, I wouldn't call them amber but in some lights they almost look yellow. They also shine a lot at night, we can see him from right down the back of the yard, two glowing green lights...it's a bit scary even when we know it's just him  Oh and my Aussie has lighter eyes with one half blue...
  4. Interesting response to a child's question ... Kids ask to learn .. and if they know nothing about how dogs operate , then asking and getting honest answers will help a lot! Completely agree. And agree with the sad face. Unfortunately not the first time I've read on here comments that are advocating violence towards kids. It's pretty sad!! The child in question is 8 or so years old. If he doesn't know how he should be treating other living creatures at that age, dog help us. It's more a point of asking the child if he would treat a human the same way. He wouldn't throw a ball like that at a human, so what makes a puppy any different? And if he would throw a ball like that at another human, enough said. He's a ratbag. I don't have any tolerance for the "but he/she is just a child" mentality. It's not an excuse to let them get away with being feral. I have to agree to a point. A kid of that age should know not to throw things at a dog, whether or not his family has them or likes them.
  5. Yes, wolves have yellow / amber eyes, so do a lot of Anatolians. I actually like the look of the black mask with yellow eyes. So I'm biased. But I do know that most breeds prefer medium to dark brown eyes.
  6. I just adore this photo! Well done to all involved Me too, he looks so happy :)
  7. Newgoldie when you say you'll crate train your pup during the day do you mean you're going to "crate" your pup (crate closed) all day or just have it available (open) while your out? We will be crating him (door closed). I don't want him to be able to have access to the room while we are out in case he gets into mischief, has a little 'accident' or hurts himself. Don't worry, he won't be on his own for more than 2 - 3 hours initially - we have a willing puppy visitor who will be coming to give him lunch and a toilet break every day I'm out at work. :) I've been practising by crating him with a Kong toy stuffed with treats, then going into another part of the house for a while - I started with an hour, then increased by half an hour each time until I got to 2 hours. The first time he barked solidly for half an hour, 2nd time about 10 mins, since then he is usually so interested in his treats that he goes for that and don't hear much at all. It has given me a bit of peace of mind for when I go back to work. :( So this pup will be crated at night ...then crated during the day while you are at work? You don't have a backyard ? There are so many different types of pen/enclosure available to keep pups safe , while allowing them room to move, and room to allow them to learn about toileting outdoors etc.:) Sorry, I can not imagine a puppy's needs being met while it is spending so long being confined in a crate That is not what 'crate training' is .... Ideally ,pups NEED to run and explore and play for muscle/brain development .They need to be able to have a discrete toilet area , and it is good for them to become accustomed to being under the sky ..to experience space and weather changes , to be constantly exposed to textures under their feet , and all sorts of outdoor noises/smells etc so they grow up confident and relaxed with their environment. I agree, I've heard of a few people keeping their puppies in crates all day and night only letting them out for toilet breaks! I don't use crates at all but have no issue with them being used properly. Unfortunately it seems they've become the easy go to fix for puppy mischief. No dog of any age should be locked up in a small cage for hours on end unless it's overnight. How can they get to know their environment? Develop their muscles etc? This is just my opinion but I think it's lazy and detrimental to the puppies development.
  8. Tollersowned - I may steal her! Toller pups are always so gorgeous!!
  9. Mosley has his own version of "cute"....
  10. My dogs are fed a raw diet including the occasional porterhouse , they are wormed/heartwormed regularly. I have cut back on fleaing though and now only treat if I see them as we just don't seem to have an issue with them. They sleep inside either on the bed, the couch or wherever their little hearts desire. I give the boy Sashas Blend/Jointguard and have just started giving it to the girl aswell to prevent any issues if I can. They get lots of additions to their diet like oily fish, raw meaty bones, organs and yoghurt. I don't vaccinate after the puppy shots and booster, they are exercised regularly, are in great shape and get so much attention it's not funny. Once they get older I will start having yearly bloods done too. Not much else I can do  spoilt buggers!
  11. Yes, this would be a good way of doing it.
  12. One of our little Chi crosses had a collapsing trachea. He would honk and cough when overexcited and it did get worse as he got older but it was never serious enough to require surgey etc so I don't have any experience with that. So sorry to hear it's so bad, did the vet seem to think the stint was worth looking into?
  13. My dogs sleep inside and are not crated. They sleep either on the floor, on their beds, on the couch or up on our bed if we let them. I couldn't leave my boy out all night as he is a barker and would keep the street awake  Up to you really as to where they sleep. I also like the security of them being inside the house while we're sleeping. If you intend to have her sleep outside I would have her doing this asap otherwise it will be harder to get her used to it if she has slept inside and liked it!
  14. Ah ok, I would just keep an eye on him and go to the vet if you notice anything unusual, having trouble going to the toilet, seeming flat or in pain etc. Hopefully he chewed it all up small enough that it won't be an issue!
  15. Stan has pretty much guaranteed that I WILL have a Greyhound one day
