What Is The Most Annoying Thing Your Dogs Do?
Dame Aussie replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Are you sure that it is not about getting your attention to play or something? Yep, Tonka does this. It is sort of like they set the thing up so that it 'moves' and then they can chase...quite effective really :) Tonka always pushes certain toys under the couch and then looks at me helplessly to get it out and then he does it again I have to get up to get down and reach under Lili does this too. She gets her ball stuck under things and then just sits there staring at the spot she can't get to. If I notice her not move for a while I know there's something where she can't reach  -
Wow!

That reminded me, when Mosley wants to go out he will stand and stare straight at us, wag his bum from side to side and "breathe" at us. I don't know how to explain it, it isn't a huff puff noise, it's weird, and highly irritating  Then sometimes when we get up to let him out he stands in front of the door like he's at the start of a race, bolts out and barks at the birds. *BIG ROLLEYES* -

Lili barks at thunder and fireworks too :/ Mosley just barks  but I feel bad saying he is annoying because it's mainly to do with his breed -

Where do I start  Lili also drops toys off the couch then picks them up, then drops them, then picks them up.... She sucks on pillows. We either have to shut her out of the bedroom or move the pillows otherwise we come back to the room and she's got (usually my OH's) pillow in her mouth. When we pat Mosley he insists on putting his paw on our arm while we do it. He's a very big dog and it actually gets quite heavy after a while  He sprawls out when he is lying on the floor, and as I go to step over him, jumps up causing me to trip over him. Lili also stands right behind me sometimes and I step back on her *rolleyes* And she will w3alk in front of me but slow down and look back to see if I'm coming which then means I almost trip over her too. -
Super stinky bone

When we play fetch with Lili, she always brings the ball back the same way and has worn a path into the ground  Mosley is the zoomer at our place though and his zoomies are actually quite unpredictable and violent.....there was a mega one the other day and this was the route: Start in behind the trees, burst out like a maniac and zoom across the yard jumping over and knocking down other dog in the process, run from that side of yard to big tree at the back, throw in a quick direction change accompanied by crazy eyes, then round back to the house going under the table (which can I add is NOT as tall as him) spilling coffees. Then stand and pant like a doofus. He nomally does a few laps but there doesn't seem to be a method to his madness...he likes to live dangerously... Reading other posts, if Mosley did zoomies inside we wouldn't have a house left  He once ran in from the back yard when we had visitors and leapt over the back of the couch landing on them .....naughty!

Exactly. The AST was created to be able to breed the APBT without the fighting history and attached attitudes associated with APBTs

This. You are good caring owners who have just included him, nothing wrong with that.
-
I think the simplest explanation is usuallythe best, sounds to me like he is just upset that you're leaving, a bit of seperation anxiety perhaps, or maybe he has barked at you before and you've come to him so he thinks by doing this you might not leave after all? Do you know if he barks/whines when you're at work?
-
Yeah I'd agree with this. Even a crappy owner would be shocked and upset to see something like this happen. He probably shat himself, was scared about what was going to happen to his dog now, and didn't know what to do. Doesn't excuse the behaviour, he should have stayed, but I can undersatand how that would be someone's first reaction. Horrible situation all round.

Eagle Kibble- Good Or Bad?
Dame Aussie replied to Blue_Slash's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used to feed Eagle Pack but found the same thing with the runny stools, so we changed to a raw diet. I think raw and any good dry are fine, I wouldn't feed canned, it's mostly water. Any pics? :) -
Your dog is gorgeous BTW Sabbath :)

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. I think that's part of the problem with what your average Joe considers a "pitbull". You hear of 40kg dogs being touted as APBTs and they just aren't that big! This pic I've attached is of APBTs to me most of the AST's I have seen look just like that I guess to answer the original question....only my opinion of course, but if two different people owned these dogs, they could say they were APBTs or ASTs and neither would really be wrong. Having said that the second pic is of what your average Joe would call a pit bull. I actually prefer the second picture but the main difference is still the build and head size to me.

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You

I'm so puppy clucky  -
The photos are misleading The AST standards states 19" is the preferable height, which is iffy at the best of times. Weight in proportion. The APBT standard is even more iffy but the weight in proportion to height also a requirement. Given that, regardless of the height, both dogs should have similar builds. :) Yeah, that's been my experience. I don't like how some AST's look these days. Massive heads and chests like a brick sh*thouse. so, we're agreeing that they're two separate breeds? No. All I was saying was that some people breed them to be bigger and bulkier than they should be.

Good pic griff. The only difference I see between the APBT and AST is that the AST is stockier and shorter. Having said that not all are bred that way and I have seen taller, finer ones that look just like the APBT in that pic, obviously without cropped ears.

Call For Participants: Canine Temperament Testing
Dame Aussie replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes. I really don't think we will get anywhere unless this is given as much importance as assessments. ETA: to agree with Cosmolo that both ends need to be studied. -
Call For Participants: Canine Temperament Testing
Dame Aussie replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't really have an issue with the test, but I do agree with Sheridan. I have worked in a pound and there is just not enough resources (time, space, money) to match dogs up with owners like is being suggested. Unless we reduce the amount of dogs coming into pounds (which begins with the people who dump them as WnH has been saying), or make huge changes to the way most pounds are run, I don't see this having any effect on how many dogs are PTS. -
I don't see any difference in the two breeds, apart from some of the Amstaffs that are being bred to look like they're on steroids.

Do I Have A Teenager On My Hands Already?
Dame Aussie replied to Stewie_the_Frenchie's topic in Puppy Chat
Yeah that's a hard one. I would maybe keep having them meet and see if it improves, but if he doesn't warm to him I wouldn't push it. How old is Ernie? -

Yeah, you can get estimates done and call therm with the correct readings if there is no access though. -
Well You Shouldn"t Have Walked Through The Gate
Dame Aussie replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah I think it's a law. It's BS. My dogs are never in the front yard without me and we have a big fence too, so it wouldn't ever be an issue, BUT I believe my front yard is my front yard and noone has any business there unless invited or in the case of an emergency, firies/ambos etc.
