I'd put my dogs down too before handing them over to places like the RSPCA. Absolutely Well being so ready to put your dogs down is the easy way out, no responsibility taken to find a solution. If the dogs' lives are so cheap then that just confirms the rightness of the decision. Disgusting attitude I think it is in regards that they more then likely will be put down if the RSPCA NSW has anything to do with them. RSPCA NSW kills many dogs (not sure of figures but probably on par with the racing industry) due to their awful behavioural assessments. I myself have seen them put a 8 month old kelpie pup into a pen then put other pups on the other side of the four foot fence and when the pup jumped over it marked it as a fence jumper and could not be rehomed not to mention comments like "You can't trust Spitz breeds as they are close to wolves and will turn on you." I think if it came down to my dogs going to the RSPCA I would rather be with them for their final moments than them in a cold concrete environment languishing in a pen until the fail their assessment and put down anyway. --Lhok

Shutting down greyhound racing yet allowing the live export of sheep and cattle to continue - yep, they are appeasing the animal rights groups. I never said they were appeasing animal rights if anything I believe it is because they want the land of Wentworth track (one newspaper stated that the kings school has previously put in a tender for the land to build a sports arena). I'm not sure why you think I said that. I clearly say that there are some people who think that this is a win for major animal rights groups and because they have banned greyhound racing to continue on pushing on the back of this for an end to the stated above. On another note I'll ask again does anyone know how this will affect lure coursing with greyhounds? --Lhok

On the back of this and on various shares of the news people have been calling for the banning of breeding animals, racing horses and eating meat. So there are certainly people who think that this is a major win for the animal rights groups and their agenda. --Lhok

I know I am probably not going to be liked for saying this, but I kind of hope that the states do ban greyhound racing in a step by step approach so NSW first then QLD etc I don't really want to see a mass cull of greyhounds. --Lhok

My breed is the Akita, they certainly aren't for everyone. We have people coming on our Facebook group asking us about them, that's ok we give them information they tell us about their lives and we see if an Akita would suit. If it turns out that they won't change their lifestyle to suit an Akita they often get snarky and rude. Often they quit the group and get their pup anyway then around 18months to 2 years down the track they have to get rid of their Akita and often do so through Gumtree etc. No matter how much information you give someone if they want something they will do it. If you add more red tape they will still just do it and ignore the extra stuff (like licenses). I am not sure how you are going to chance the mentality of that. --Lhok

My Akita had a huge nosebleed his nose would gush whenever he put his head down and took 3 days to come right(took him into the emergency vet and their consult room looked like a murder scene because he would sneeze and blood would shoot everywhere. The back of my car was the same and calling the detailers and asking how to get blood out of the back of the car was an interesting experience ) Does your son know if she had a knock to the muzzle? Even a minor one with liver issues could cause a bleed and delay significant clotting enough to stop it bleeding. --Lhok

The thing that gets me is in the video, she has a muzzle in her hands. What good is a muzzle at preventing bites if it isn't on the dog. The whole thing is just awful. --Lhok

I do believe that in some states dogs are allowed to travel on public trains. I think trying to get them allowed on public transport would be a good start. --Lhok

Yep agree, while we don't allow dogs anywhere owners have no reason/incentive to obey laws, train their dogs or do any more than the basics. If dogs went back to being part of everyone's lives I believe people would have better trained and social dogs, one: they would be exposed regularly to different people, places, situations, two: training would be incorporated within everyday experiences, three: less dogs would be left at home in the backyard to be bored and become nuisances. They are allowed places (they might not be many at the moment) but still how many threads here deal with people who know nothing about canine behaviour "He/she is friendly" and care little about laws. What makes you think by opening up everywhere to them is going to change their behaviour? It isn't they are only going to feel more entitled. I do notice that Monelite hasn't answered my question about multiple dogs with one handler and also around the place I live and even in at least one of the photos in the facebook link there was an under aged handler. I know laws in place state that the a dog must be with a responsible person older then 16 (I think) but often you see kids around here with dogs. You guys haven't put up any framework for what you want except that dogs should be allowed everywhere. If you put up what rule people should follow it might ease some concerns because where I am sitting the Aussie "She'll be right" attitude with this is a recipe for disaster. You do understand what you are asking for is something that even service dogs have difficulty with on some days and they are dogs that do have great socialising and training. --Lhok

I would think that first to penalise those disobeying in the areas they are currently allowed before increasing the places dogs can go. I think because if a dog is not yet ready to walk down a street politely or owners currently can not obey leash rules as is, they shouldn't be allowed to misbehave in more (challenging) places. I would turn it around so: 1. More consistent rules and penalise issues as they currently are /encourage training 2. Average owner and dogs would slowly get better/ issues decrease / pet ownership culture improve 3. Then allow access to more places 4. Deal with the new issues that occur with out the original issues in the way I think jumping straight to 3 and hoping 1 and 2 follow would backfire on everyone because our pet owning population and dogs are not ready - undo some of the issues first before letting them run on out. For national parks, I don't think dogs should be allowed at all. All of this! --Lhok

Also in all of those photos you put up in your facebook link people only had one dog with them. Would that be the rule or would they be able to take multiple dogs with them? If they are allowed to take multiple dogs with them it become a lot more crowded. Also even assistance dogs can have off days while out in public, which means if there are more dogs the likelyhood of a dogs having an off day becomes greater and no one really wants to have a dog barking somewhere like a shopping centre where the sound echos. --Lhok

I'm also not sure why they should be allowed in shops to be honest most shops are cramped and hard to move around with other people without the need to be care of dogs and leads. I do agree dogs need to be allowed more places just not free for all. --Lhok

Yeah I agree Showdog, Until Aussies have the same mindset as most europeans do when it comes to personal responsibility then all I can see is this really not working out or someone with an assistance dog getting hurt. --Lhok

If you call Dogs NSW which is the regulatory body for pedigree dogs in NSW they might be able to give you the prefix of the breeder or at least know who it was. The companion animals register is only a database for councils to check if the dog is registered with local authorities in case your pup gets lost which would need to be updated to your details if the pound haven't done so. --Lhok

Seriously accidental bites happen to the best of them, while I was doing the NDTF course in Sydney Steve Austin told me about a massive scar when he copped a bite from a Mal I think it was on his back if I recall properly (was in 2007 so my memory is a bit hazy) as we were discussing bitework there was also a trainer called Glen there and he was all about Rotties. Pretty sure Steve Austin is fairly well regarded in training circles and if he accidentally copped a bite then I guess it can happen to even the best. --Lhok

You might have just been there at the wrong time to say hello to the other dog/owner. The Royal is such a long day and very very noisy in the pavilion all day. Dogs/owners do need to take breaks. I was there on the first Saturday with my dogs. We took turns and rotated the dogs around so that the dogs and owners could have some down time but there was usually at least one of our breed up front for the public to meet. If someone wanted to say hello to one of the dogs taking a break, it would have been 'no, sorry, not right now'. Some may think it rude, but it is what is best for the dog. Also for me! After answering question after question for hours on end (Pyrenean mountain dog, about 60 kilos, from the Pyrenees mountains in France, Pyrenean Mountain Dog, no they only eat about as much as a border collie, Pyrenean Mountain Dog, 60 kilos, not they only come in white, Pyrenean Mountain Dog, no they don't eat that much for their size, 60 kilos ..... yes we do that all day and at about that rate of reply too ROFL!) there were times I needed to sit in my chair and close my eyes and ignore people for a while (can't leave because we have to look after the dogs ..). The show is sensory overload and when you are up from before 4 in the morning, at some point you need to take a break. As for the goings on, I can't comment as I wasn't there when it happened. Whatever happened it is very unfortunate all round, but perhaps best highlights two things - always be a gracious loser and save the venting for the car ride home, and always remember that you are the public face of all purebred dogs and dog sports and you never know who is listening, or what they may hear/how they will hear it (which may or may not be what was meant when it was said). And you are right on the judging. The Royals are always a bit of a wild card when it comes to who wins and who doesn't. The bolded bit reminded me of the time I went to a dog show and I walked up to a lady who had a Lagotto and I asked "May I pat your Lagotto?" as she was about to tell me he wasn't a labradoodle! I do feel for exhibitors answering all those questions would get tiring after a while. --Lhok

Again that video is bias, and is posted by someone who has an axe to grind again Stilwell. As from the comments are all mostly about how Cesar is amazing etc etc. I don't know how you are suppose to assess behaviour without seeing first hand what is going on without interruption. That video is pretty bias, It doesn't show the lead up and the comments within the comment section are horrid, basically who ever posted it has an axe to grind against Stilwell due to this being in the description: "Victoria Stilwell is a supporter and advocate for force free, positive only dog training. In this video it shows her ignorance as she sends a dog off to slaughter as her methods have failed. Without even referring to someone else who may be able to help...." However one of the comments sheds further light on the recommendation for euthanasia the dog: "+The Masked Dog Trainer guess you didn't do your research. two vets recommend the dog was put down, Victoria stillwell agreed. the vet, the family, and VS reached the same conclusion and the owners agreed to allow the show to do that segment. it's tragic a neurological condition can put the lives of others at risk and euthanasia is the best solution for those dogs. look it up!!!" I don't know hardly anything about Stilwell and I want to stay out of training politics/arguements, so all I will say is I hope she recovers well. --Lhok
