Some of the people I know who rent also lie on their applications stating they have no pets when they have multiple. These people have been kicked out of every rental property they have been accepted into because they lied about their pets surely that also reflects badly on pet owners who would love to rent with their pets and don't do the wrong thing. I would love to be able to rent with my dog, but despite having good references from her vet and the boarding kennel she goes to when we go on holidays my husband and I were knocked back every time. She is a lab x Kelpie about a medium size and due to her having mild HD and arthritis I don't really want her to be an outside only dog another reason we were given about her is that most land lords feel she is too big of a dog to rent with. So in the end since we were desperate to get a home my dog is back with my parents for the time being, I still do all her looking after but it really hurts that I couldn't rent a house and be able to keep her with me. --Lhok

One thing that has been on my mind is gathering data on where the dogs are coming from. Doesn't matter if it is a breeder, pet shop, backyard breeder etc One of my thoughts were having an unchangeable 3 contact detail with the breeder/pet shop/rescue etc on it. This 3rd contact could be used to contact the breeder/rescue/ etc if the dog ended up dumped and they would get the first chance to rescue it out of the situation before it was left in the pound. I can see ways that it could be/ would be abused but I think that it gathering data on where they are coming from would be good. Education is a good idea too, however there will always be the ones who don't get it. I know of a few people who get animals then palm them off as soon as they go back into the rental market (a couple of these people I know would still palm them off even if they got a rental place that allowed pets.) just my two cents. --Lhok

My favourite coat colour Harlequin in Beaucerons It is approved of in the standard so long as the dog displays the red stockings and face markings. --Lhok

one of the local vets in my neck of the woods has only just been banned from practicing after years of malpractice. The rest of the vets in our area complained and they got a vet nurse who was working at that practice to take photos of what was going on. The saga went on for almost 6 years, and during that time many people's pets died but they didn't get anything after the vet board decided to shut him down. Good luck though for your case. --Lhok

So today I went to visit my parents who at the moment are looking after my dog (because they are lovely parents and are awesome :D ) and as usual my lovely dog meets me at the door. Well that was when I noticed that she must have been rolling in the dirt or something cause my dog who is normally a black colour looked brown in patches. I didn't take much notice of it and did the usual pat and tummy rub. However while I was giving her a tummy rub I noticed an odd smell.. By this time my mum was cracking up laughing and goes "hi daughter of mine, did you notice what your dog smells like?" I was puzzled by this and replied "yeah she has an odd smell about her, and I saw the brown patches on her but I just assumed she had found and old possum smell or something." My mum was laughing again and goes " She rode the brown tide" I didn't know what my mum was going on about, but she motioned outside to the backyard. I cautiously went out there only to find that the Sewage main pipe that is usually covered by dirt had burst and that my "innocent" looking dog had spent the whole afternoon having a blast riding the brown tide as my mother put it. I am still trying to scrub my hands off the end of my arms the smell is so bad. I can't believe I didn't know what it was :D Really gotta love dogs sometimes :D --Lhok

I grew up with army dogs, from the sapper dogs which were terrier crosses to the tracking dogs which were lab crosses with a few German shepherds and one Dobermann thrown in When we finally got a dog for the family it was a failed sapper dog I think it was some form of staffy cross called Jester. Then when I was 16 and doing work experience at the rspca I bonded with the most loveliest Lab x Kelpie which is my current dog today. I know I will be going into another breed due to liking dogs that mature (eg LSG type dogs, Akitas and so on). --Lhok

China Police Dog Technical Competition 2004

I thought they used Kunming wolfdogs for police and military work? -
Go to the Mater Dog Breeders site - their Certificate courses are fantastic. I've learned far more from them than I have from any breeder. My mother used to breed and she's astounded at the stuff I'm learning. Thanks for that will check it out --Lhok

I'm not a breeder and it is something I might consider later down the track. I was wondering though how hard would it be to set up an apprentice scheme like the Falconry clubs do? How some Falconry clubs do their apprenticeships are that they become a member of the club and go to events and what not then if they choose to go further with it they are allocated a sponsor. The sponsor helps get them started and teaches the basics and then they get a new sponsor each year for their apprenticeship to broaden knowledge and help establish networks. I know it is often stated that you should do your own research and find a breeder that you work well with but I think a system like that would work well to, or at least be something to think about? Sorry if this is off topic too btw but I really wanted to ask. --Lhok

That reminds me of a conversation I had with one of my parents friends who had said I should breed my Lab x cause the pups would be so wonderful due to my dog having "such a pretty face and nice temperament". Friend of parents: "You should breed her I would love a dog like her and I know many people would." Me: "She came from the RSPCA, so she is desexed and even if she wasn't desexed I wouldn't breed from her anyway" Friend of parents: "Why? she has such a pretty face and lovely temperament" Me: "She has hip dysplasia, and she is frightened of thunderstorms". Friend of parents: "All dogs are frightened of Thunderstorms so that's no issue and if you Crossed her with another breed the pups won't get Hip problems". Me: " I am so glad she is desexed.." After that I stalked back to my room. --Lhok
