  1. WendyH Yup Mischief is desexed :) so at least it isn't Pyometra, lucky she is as I would never have thought of that otherwise. :) Thanks for thinking of us everyone I will let you know how it goes after the vet visit today :) --Lhok
  2. Wow after reading this thread I am very glad the people who have found my dog a couple of times after she escaped my yard during thunderstorms were honest folk. Each one of them wanted to keep my dog but called the number on the tag on her collar instead of just keeping her because I doubt they would keep her after she decided to chew up their place and would have probably ended up in a rescue where I would never have found her. She is chipped too but no one ever checked that. --Lhok
  3. Hope everything is fine and you get the results quickly --Lhok
  4. Thanks for the suggestions :) Just an update Well tried to get a urine sample proved to be the most difficult thing in the world. I spent the best part of my sunday trying to get one but she wouldn't co operate (smart ass of a hubby said she was playing an april fools day joke on me). Took her into the vets today and still nothing . They are going to try and get one tomorrow, according to them she isn't as hydrated as she could be and I have to keep her with me as much as possible in case I can get a sample. Fingers crossed I can get this sample and we can find out what is wrong I also noticed she is panting a fair bit too --Lhok
  5. Ahh ok. Thanks will get it done thanks :) --Lhok
  6. A bit of back story My dog is an 11 year old lab kelpie cross. Since Sunday I have noticed she is drinking a lot more then she usually would be. The weather hasn't been very hot either, she has gone from drinking half an ice cream bucket to the whole thing in a day. Her exercise hasn't changed and neither has her diet which is some advance senior bikkies in the morning and again some in the night with a bit of advanced canned mixed in. Not sure if I should be worried or not as the vet I phoned didn't think it was something to be overly concerned about. Thought I would ask here to see if I need to get another opinion as the vet I phoned wasn't the usual one I see. Thanks in advance --Lhok
  7. What of hunting dogs that are bred for not only tracking but to bail up? Akitas and Elkhounds are ones that spring to my mind, Yes they might be able to track it down but one of the most important things hunters looked for in those breeds is the ability for the dog to stop the quarry in it's tracks long enough (which often means getting up close and personal) for the animal to be shot. Having them pass a tracking test doesn't mean they can do what they were bred for. --Lhok
  8. On my grandfather's farm we watched 10 feral cats destroy a whole flock of birds when they came down the the dam to drink. Nothing we could do to prevent it feral cats aren't really frightened of humans. We tried baiting but they never touched the baits, if the people who do rescue think they can handle a feral cat the same way they handle domesticated cats then they really are out of touch. These cats at the dam that day were the same size as a small dog and they are really dangerous to get near. I think having a dog that can track them down so you can shoot them humanely is great as they are really hard to find when they want to be and the mothers constantly move the kittens if they think they are being followed. The dog scent in the area is likely to put off cats too. As to the photo each to their own I guess, but it is pretty evident that the cat in the photo is just a skin probably why they need the rope to show what they are doing. --Lhok
  9. I have a thunder phobic dog who is worse on sedative medication so I would like a sound proof area for her to go into. One that she can't escape from and that she wouldn't damage herself in. She also stresses if she doesn't have human time so I would like one on one time for her too. No interactions with other dogs as she is elderly and has back problems would be nice too and if I left bedding for her to get it back in the same condition I left it in. --Lhok
  10. Things I am looking for in a breeder would be: 1. Approachable (I am a nervous kind of person when I am out of my depth, which is talking to people on the phone) 2. Able to put up with lots of questions and happy to go back over any information so I can get it through my head. 3. Not get too uptight if I don't respond in a couple of days it takes me awhile to process information and cross check it 4. Be willing to help me (I'm new to the dog world even though I have been around lots of dogs and owned dogs before) 5. Send me lots of photos and tell me about your achievements Just my 2cents worth. --Lhok

  13. Thanks guys :) Yup so glad everything has settled although she was fussy when she went to get the stitches out so the nurse started giving her treats.. Well after the last stitch was out we realised she had eaten half a containers worth. After that discovery we then told her no more treats to which she then started to put on the whole sookie la la "but I'm hurtie" routine  Yup she is has lab in her alright :) --Lhok

  16. I remember my English teacher making a comment about how the imperials in Star wars were like the Nazis and the rebels were the allies or something to that effect. Volkswagon was brought about by the Nazis so maybe it is that.. But my english teacher was a bit of a conspiracy theorist or it just looks cool and sounds awesome! --Lhok
  17. The germanic goddess Hariasa:Possibly related to the valkyrie name Herja or meaning "goddess with lots of hair" --Lhok
  18. Wandering cats are the bane of my existence. My dog has killed numerous cats that have wandered in to the yard to which I have had to clean up. The first time it happened I took the cat back to the owner as I knew whose cat it was.. well wasn't that was a mistake the owner of the cat wanted me to buy her a new cat and to pay for her old cat to be cremated not to mention she went on and on about my dog being a killer and informed the local council about it and we had to go through a whole heap of stuff with them. That all could of been avoided if she had been a responsible cat owner and not let her cats wander. It beats me why people get animals and then not look after them. As far as I know said owner is on to her 10th cat --Lhok
  19. The RSPCA I got my dog from back in 2002 was a pick which dog you like and have the cash then it's yours and from what I have been told it hasn't change except the price has gone up. --Lhok
  20. Cool, I have washed the area with saline today and it isn't looking as angry as in the photo it is still tender to touch and the swelling has gone down a bit more. I also should note that she has had a Elizabethan collar on since the op so not sure if she has licked the wound or if she has I have no idea how to stop her if the collar can't. Thanks for the advice :) --Lhok
  21. The Pyrenean Mountain Dog sounds British. --Lhok
  22. To keep the area clean should I just use water? I was in a bit of a haze that I didn't ask the vet and they didn't mention anything about it. --Lhok
  23. Back from the vet with pain killers and antibiotics in tow. They are concerned about the stitches too so if they are still looking like that on monday we will be going back. Thanks again everyone --Lhok
  24. Righto, will call the after hours vet. Thanks everyone :) --Lhok
