    Raiden

I don't know where to start, You were so full of life. Two days ago you were running around chasing me in the yard and playing tug. I scratched your belly and you looked so pleased with yourself, then you got up and shoved your head into my armpit for a hug while I gently stroked your head and ears. The next morning I when I woke up you had vomited up all your dinner from the night before but you didn't look like you were any worse for wear as you ate all your meals and were a good boy, I made sure I kept a good eye on you throughout the day though. The next morning I woke up to you having vomited up your evening meal again this time it smelt really bad and you were shaking and whimpering something you never did in fact you hardly ever made a sound apart from your happy grumble you use to do while out and about smelling. I rushed you to the vets who thought you had an foreign body obstruction somewhere and we agreed that the best course of action was to get it out. However you threw us all a curve ball as the routine blood before operating came back abnormal in the kidney function the levels were so high the machine couldn't read them properly. We decided instead to get a ultrasound done to see what was going on it showed that you were in the last stages of renal failure and that the kindest thing to do was to give you your wings. This morning I came and visited you in the hospital and brought you your favourite food in the whole world which was roasted chicken. I gave you cuddles and told you I love you, You gave me a few final kisses and your paw as you left the world. You really named appropriately as your registed name was Shining Light and that you were, We gave you the name Raiden after the Japanese god of lightening. You lit up my life even if it was for only a short time and cemented my love of Akitas. Run free Raiden, Go find my Missy dog and play free from pain. I will think of you whenever I see the Lightening flash across the sky, Love you always --Lhok
  3. Did you speak to his breeder? Is it maybe a genetic thing? Don't be sorry, that's what we're all here for! Paws and fingers crossed for you here. Yup I spoke to his breeder, but she hasn't got it in the lines of her dogs but as his dad is half american lines she is going to have a look at them. The only other Akita she had heard of that went through renal failure was a 5 year old rescue bitch whose lines she didn't know. She is as devastated as I am about Raiden, I do know if the worse should come I have already told the vets that if she would like to call them that they can discuss what happened even though the vets are less then happy about it (No idea why) And I have authorised a kidney necropsy (not sure if that is the right term) to be done so they can find out what happened as apparently it is very rare in young dogs. --Lhok
  4. I'll be calling them around 9 as that is when they will have had a chance to get his results of the morning bloodwork. I am praying for a miracle right now. Thank you for thinking about us and I'm so sorry about destroying the happy vibe of this thread. I just didn't know where to go. --Lhok
  5. The ultrasound results are not good. Apparently he has been in kidney failure for a while and even the vets are shocked at how stoic he has been. They told me any other dog could not stand up with his kidney test results. They told me it isn't my fault and that they aren't entirely sure how it happened but there isn't anything much in side the structure of his kidneys. Normally you would see this in older dogs with kidney failure so they aren't sure what caused it. I'm going to have a chat to his breeder and let her know what is going on, she will be as devastated as I am as they are recommending him be put to sleep due to his kidneys and a few other things they have found inside his digestive system. They also have ruled out the foreign body object and instead worked out it was his inflamed liver that was causing the x ray to appear the way it did. I never expected this. --Lhok
  6. If they found a foreign body why don't just they go in and get it out? Or can't they put him under if his kidneys aren't good? I hope they can sort it out and make him better They want to make absolutely sure about his kidneys before putting him under, due to the added stress on his body. I just want him to come home and be better. Thanks guys for your support, it makes it better. --Lhok
  7. My day just gets worse, just had another phone call, They took more x-rays of Raiden and said he chest and tummy don't look normal and his kidney function isn't good and they are having troubles getting a clear picture of his kidneys. So they are going to do an ultrasound of his kidneys and get back to me. My poor little man,  --Lhok
  8. Just re read that and I sure as hell feel like a irresponsible dog owner --Lhok
  9. That's the thing Minimax. We always supervise him when he is out in the yard. If he disappears under the deck he gets recalled out as soon as he goes in. We can't put anything up to stop him from going under the deck at the moment which is why it is supervise or no outside time. If it is the canvas then I am ripping it off the run tonight, the chew marks are in an area where we can't get to but a puppy could and that's why I think it that is the culprit. What I am taking away from all this is just because you can't get there, because you would have to be able to contort yourself inside out a puppy sure as hell can and will. --Lhok
  10. Fluids, blood work and operation is in the works. I just scoured the backyard to try and help identify what it could possibly be. Three things have popped out, 1. Something from under the deck that we couldn't see that was there, 2. Tennis ball fluff although all his balls are accounted for and all of them have the fluff on them. 3. Which is the more likely of the bunch, strips of canvas from the disused dog run which have chew marks on them. --Lhok
  11. The vet just called, They found a foreign body object in his tummy via x ray. I'm so stressed out right now. --Lhok
  12. Raiden is at the vets he did two massive vomits and hasn't wanted to eat. They are taking x rays to see if there is a foreign body in his tummy and bloods to see if it is something else. I am so worried --Lhok
  13. This is interesting from there My link --Lhok

  19. I have anxiety and heart related problems so he will help me get around the place easier when/so my husband and parents can't do it. --Lhok

  21. Wow I had forgotten about this thread Yesterday Raiden passed his first exam to be my assistance dog :) it wasn't very hard as it was a meet and greet and he did very well. The landshark didn't appear at all and he even kept all four paws on the ground :D The lady who came to meet him told me he was very soft and cuddly and oh how ever so handsome he is :D Today however the landshark is back with revengence (in joke as Raiden is named after the main character from metal gear rising Revengence) Another fantastic thing is he is finally not weeing in his crate every chance he gets and can go 5 hours without doing it. Will update his thread with photos when I get a chance to find the camera thingy I need. --Lhok
  22. Unfortunately there are rising numbers of Byb Akita breeders. Lovely girl, glad she has rescue. --Lhok
  23. Looks fantastic LisaCC! Been a bit quiet lately, Raiden had been worrying me with his apparent lack of wanting to eat then when I think I should get him checked out he decided he would eat as if nothing was ever the matter. I also had to rush him off to the vets yesterday as I thought he was bloating as his tummy was twice the size it normally was, on the way he vomited, peed and pooped in my car (which was revolting to clean up and the smell made me want to hurl and I still don't feel clean) opened the back up to find him sitting there looking pretty happy with himself still with a huge tummy though. Got him into the vets and they gave him something to stop him vomiting and a bit of degas stuff which after 10mins I couldn't stand being near him as his farts were nightmare inducing he also peed on their floor then decided it was time to leave. While this was all going on I was so relived he hadn't bloated that I didn't really care about the mess in the car until I had to clean it of course, although a small part of me wished I had of taken photos of it as my description of the horror doesn't do it justice on the upside my car now smells like Glen 20 and not like poop/wee/vomit. Raiden is all better now and asleep at my feet after having a good day kicking back at home :D --Lhok
  24. So only train inside for now? I would only go with one method of toilet training for now, as it will be confusing for the little guy. Plus do you see yourself running down the stairs in your jimjams at 4am in the morning? --Lhok
