Treble is home from his hernia op. He is still feeling very groggy though. --Lhok -
What a cutie! I hope you and Jingo have many happy years together, although he looks a bit ninja like in the second photo. --Lhok

Sometimes a breeder doesn't want a particular dog bred for good reasons not because they don't want you to muscle in on their business. Unfortunately for Akitas they are starting to show up in pounds and rescue groups and there are a few backyard breeders cropping up hence maybe the desire to not want your particular dog bred. Also which type of Akita do you own? --Lhok

Donkey's don't hold up well against packs of dogs though and I doubt they would be very good against leopards which are ambush predators and can kill singular zebra which would be similar to a donkey. I have seen the aftermath of a pack of dogs that pulled down the donkey once which is why my grandfather switched to livestock guardian dogs however against singular dogs they would be very effective. --Lhok

Back from vet They are pretty happy with Treble it looks like he just ate something that didn't agree with him as he is fine and bouncy again. The hernia though is cause for concern so I will be getting it done asap. Thank you for all your thoughts, I am glad it wasn't much at all. I think I am a little sensitive when it comes to things after what I went through with Missy and Raiden. Sorry if I get all henny penny about things. --Lhok -

We think we might have found the culprit. In our backyard there is a couple of half munched Grapevine leaves and a dried branch which must have come in when the fence broke, as the vine is on the part of fence that broke in the neighbours yard. Unless of course grapevines it isn't then it is back to the drawing board. --Lhok -

Treble's hernia is quite large about 4 cms long and has two lump like swellings. He has had it repaired twice but from where it is located looks like it might be something funny going on when it heals. The vet I spoke to said that the quicker they are repaired the better because when the dog lays down it can cause folding or something like that I can't remember it completely. The reason why they would probably say to get it fixed with she is spayed is that way they don't have to cut twice as they could do the spay and fix it at the same time. If you aren't planning on getting her spayed you could just get it fixed :) --Lhok -

Back from the vets, Not rat sac or snail bait nor an obstruction as he did a massive poop outside the vets so they got to look at it. We are treating it as if he has eaten something that doesn't agree with him and I have some electrolytes and some metronidazole tabs for him too. It also looks like the umbilical hernia that has been repaired twice now has appeared again so they are not sure what is exactly going on with it and that could also be causing some of the pain. Either way Treb will be fasted tonight and will go and see the vet tomorrow. As an aside he is also 44.4kg so he is gaining weight nicely too :D --Lhok -

Hmm I didn't think of that, he isn't trembling and he has fine refill times. I might give the vets another call and see if they want to see him. --Lhok -

Nope he hasn't stolen any nappies for a month since we set up the decoy bins. The vomit isn't a worry worry vomit, it isn't brown/black it is just a bit biley and mostly water. I know the difference now since Raiden. The vet has been calling me throughout the day since 8am this morning to see how he is doing. He also just ate his brekky and had a drink so that is a good start. He just isn't feeling well I'm actually more concerned about the mucous poops, as most poops covered in a thick mucous membrane are caused by something they ate that their digestive system didn't agree with i.e milk or dairy products so I am wracking my brains as to what it could be or it could be just a one off. --Lhok -

I woke up this morning and Treble isn't well. He had vomited and done two very mucusy (sp) green poops. I'm now wondering what he has eaten that could cause it. Last night he had some kibble and a chicken frame, and I think he might have gotten a dentistix too which would be too much food for him but they haven't caused this before. He also just wants to lay down. I am keeping my eye on him as the vets have told me to, however if anything changes he will be off to the vets. I am hoping it is just a bug he might have picked up and he will be ok. --Lhok -
Treble has learned how to open the pedal bins we have We got them after he pulled the swing top bins apart and pulled out a bunch of bagged up poopy nappies. --Lhok

Good luck Show newbie buddy! very cute snuggle buddy good to see he takes his job seriously! :) Treble in other news is in disgrace, he dug up our water pipe and promptly chewed through it Lucky for me I managed to score a plumber in time to fix it today and he even wrapped the pipe in some crazy neoprene stuff then put two bricks over it before covering it so hopefully that will stop the monster. I introduced Treb to the plumber and he stated "Whoa that's not a dog that's a bear" --Lhok -
I was just hanging around on the internet like I do when I found this article. It is pretty awesome what the dogs have managed to do. Although some of the actions of the humans involved are somewhat weird. http://www.cracked.com/article/133_7-dogs-that-accomplished-more-than-we-ever-will/ --Lhok

Oh lisa. I am so sorry to hear that. I hope Nova is being a good cuddle bug. Treble was such a good dog, Our back fence has been broken in the strong winds we have going on at the moment. He was out in his run and started to woof slightly to get our attention. So I headed out to see what is going on and saw the fence broken. He is now tucking into a chicken leg for being a good boy and telling me. He also was so proud of himself for telling me as he practically pranced back into his run. --Lhok -
The ranchers don't seem to confident in some of their dogs abilities, as they got another breed then another. As Steve and Espinay said you don't need to mix LGD's to get them to work like that when in a team some will be enforcers and others protectors where as in a single the dog will try and get the flock to move away to somewhere safe if there is one. One thing I don't really like is that most those ranchers don't seem to brush out their dogs (going by the matted GP in the video). I'm not saying that a dog needs to be show ready but they still need to be checked and brushed out. --Lhok

I think it would be unlikely you would disembowel a police dog Kung Lao. Unless you carry around a fairly long knife around in which case you are a criminal. Another thing is you need to be trained to be able to actually take an attack dog down it isn't as easy as you might think. I've read several SaS survival guides and only one went into great detail about attack dogs this particular guide stated to avoid any conflict with attack dogs as they are faster and often can take more punishment then a man and still carry on doing the job they are trained for. I get general the feeling you just don't like police dogs or the police for that matter. --Lhok

Treb had a huge day out today. He went off to the groomers to help blow his coat, the groomers loved him and they told me they got 3 large bags of fur off him  We then went off to Petstock and I am happy to say he actually ignored the hens but they were in the coop as Dotdashdot put them away. However the rooster decided he would fluff up at Treb to protect his ladies  After that it was off to the vet to pick up the paperwork I forgot then home. He is at the moment snoring in his kennel run in the cool breeze. I am super impressed how he took it all in his stride. He was a little wary of the store to begin with but after about 5mins or so he was pretty calm in there. He even sat when I asked him too  --Lhok -

Sounds great! Can I ask who the new trainer is? (Pm if you want). The new trainer is Kyra :) She wasn't available until friday so I have had to wait :) I'm looking forward to working with her. --Lhok Awesome! I look forward to hearing how you go! And seeing you tomorrow if you're still coming in? Warning - we have chickens at the moment! (so if Treb's prey drive is strong he may be VERY interested!) I will still be coming into the store but I am not sure about Treble, If you have chickens will they be roaming the store or locked up because Treb's prey drive is super strong (it will be one of the things we will be working on as I can't have a service dog that wants to commit birdurs every chance he gets) --Lhok -

I am super proud of Treb, it appears he doesn't care about thunderstorms :) he actually wanted to stay out in the rain so I put him in the roofed area of his kennel run that way he wouldn't get wet but he could still watch the rain. We also get started with the new trainer on Friday :) --Lhok -
I find it hard to believe you would be able to kill a shepherd using only your bare hands unless you had a weapon on you which makes you a criminal and there for you would deserve to have a police dog in your face and gouging at the eyes of the dog that is biting you would only serve to make the dog more likely to do more damage to you. The best course of action is if you don't want a dog on your butt don't be a crim or to do what they say and stand still. --Lhok
