Not really I need to chat to some rottie breeders first, I have had a few recommendations (well 7 have been recommended :p) so that's a lot of homework to do. I know I would like a female unless there is a boy that has all the right qualities. --Lhok

After heaps of talking it over with multiple assistance dog trainers, his breeder and my vets, it is in Treble's best interests once he is stable to find another home as it won't be fair on him to leave him at home all the time while the new dog and I go out the other thing that would put him at risk is if I ever have to go away Treb would have to go into boarding while the other dog would come with me which everyone agrees would be very hard on Treble and would stress him out which puts him at risk of an Addison's crisis which is life threatening. It sucks as I want to keep him because he is an awesome dog and I love him so much. The new assistance dog will be a Rottweiler.

I'll send happy paws and email tonight and see if they would like the crate. Thanks :) --Lhok

Congrats! and Welcome to the thread. --Lhok

People comment that Treble my Akita is big, however I think he is just the right size. --Lhok

I just made sure I was there a bit earlier then when the flight was coming in at in case it was early  You will probably have to pick up the pup from a cargo area so make sure you have a good slip lead or something the pup can't back out of unless you are allowed to take the crate with you. A towel because he will more then likely have wee'd in his crate and any paperwork that the breeder has sent you for id purposes. That's all I think I did. --Lhok

Putting my toe back in this thread, I will probably will be here for a while yet though. --Lhok

I got a Petstock christmas card with a voucher in it too :D not sure if I am a big spender, I know I am a serial returner.. Nope that food didn't work, this didn't work, that didn't work I am suprised I get a happy reception from the petstock people rather then a "Oh go god she is back what is she returning this time" --Lhok -
I have a large black kramar crate, it is very old and well used. The plastic tray is a bit warped too. My hubby was going to throw it out for the large item collection or take it to a scrap metal place so I thought I would ask here. Pick up would be from Coffs Harbour as I can't really drive very far. --Lhok

The pred is a permanent medication it is to help regulate his kidney function. I'll be having a chat to Treb's breeder about everything maybe tonight or tomorrow night as well as I feel like she needs to know what is going on even though she is in Canberra she might know something that might help the situation or even be able to chat to her vets for another opinion. Sorry guys again about the woe is me posts. editing to add, I think I will give some other vets a call it can't hurt to get some other advice. Thanks for the suggestion :) --Lhok -

I have spoken to the vets (not just the one doing most of the work with Treb) numerous times, when he was first diagnosed and they said the pred wouldn't cause a temperament change (I asked because I know what pred can do to someone as I have had to take it before) and again when I saw a change in behaviour stating that they hadn't heard of that happening before. They also said it could take up to 2 weeks before the tabs would be changed and that I have to just manage the behaviours as best I can. Which you know is all good to do if you can separate your 2 year old from Treb, as I basically have to lock one of them up so I can work with the other to keep everyone safe. I'm despairing because I'm being told that if we can't control Treb's temperament I will have to look at sending him back to the breeder as my husband isn't going to put my daughter at risk as much as we love Treb one bite and it would be over for both of them. --Lhok edit to add: I'm not having a go at anyone I just feel like my luck has run out. -

The pred is split up over two doses one 10mg in the morning and 10mg in the evening. They upped it from 10mg because he has having runny poops which had blood and mucous in it. I'm not sure what else I can do for Treb, and I am very worried it could be roid rage I also don't want him to become a danger to my daughter due to him not being himself poor boy. --Lhok -

Since upping Treb's dosage to 20mg of Pred under the instruction of our vet he has become a handful. I spoke to the vet about his change in temp and they said they hadn't heard of it happening before and I just have to monitor the situation more closely. He knocked my daughter to the ground after charging straight into her and stood over her and put his huge paw on her arm which gave her a bruise. It was lucky I was standing right next to him and he got off straight away when I grabbed him. He has also been very pushy with my hubby and I too over food which after speaking to the vets I was told that Addisons dogs are always ravenous and that is just part of the disease. After the responses I got from the vets I am taking him to another vet for assessment as he isn't being his normal self and it is worrying. Bea is also not allowed out in the yard if he is out there and he goes into his kennel run if she would like to play outside. He still does all his commands like sit, drop, come, wait, paw, back up and go to your bed every time we ask him too its just sometimes out of the blue he just does something random and if you watch him it is like he doesn't even know he is doing it so I am concerned something else is going on. Sorry my posts of late aren't happy ones --Lhok -
Problem is when the names they use for the breed is different. In North America (and only there) for instance, they call Pyrenean Mountain Dogs 'Great Pyrenees'. I did say some.. but I still would love to hear the announcer say Great Pyroknees :p --Lhok

I think a good way to learn some of the dog breed names is to watch the best in group rings of the westminster show. The announcer calls out each breed of dog as it is being examined and then has a little bit of information about the breed. It is where I have learned how to pronounce many of the breed names :) --Lhok

I think it is a Treb thing lucky me.. and OOOOH yay for new puppy! I told Bea that you were getting a spotty pup like Potts her Dalmatian soft toy (named after bottomley potts all covered in spots from hairy maclary) and she asked if we could go to the fish shop today to see Potts. This is going to be like the birdy and the kitten all over again. --Lhok -

Treb has hit a new low. All my dogs have loved rolling in things but seriously Treb loves rolling in his own wee and it makes him stink then he likes to come over to smooch, gross dog that he is. It is a sign that he is feeling better but man I had to change my pants twice today as he got me and I had a bad case of the stink arms. --Lhok -

Ooooh, I have a dental xray that morning, but I might have a look! Wonder if they take dubious crosses? Haha. Are you coming along? Im sure you could ask, they allow Igs :) Sadly I wont be there as I have the human kids dancing concert tomorrow night/Sat/Sat night and backing it up with a dog show in Ballarat on Sunday. Hopefully next year I will be there :) That's a shame, Whippytails, curse those pesky human kids! I sent a message to ask if misc, imitation whippets would be allowed and got back if they're friendly should be fine. The x's might have a run alone unless there are some open minded whippet owners who don't mind them interloping. I should hope it's not a big issue, she would love it! She's 12kg of pure muscle at this point. I was also told that they need to have a reasonable recall as the area isn't entirely 100% secure/whippy-proof. Just F-everyone's-I. Haha. if she doesn't have a good recall, take a video camera and she might be the new Fenton. --Lhok -

Oh thanks for that information I will have a chat to Treb's vet about getting a script to get the meds from the chemist warehouse. He has already changed since starting the prednisolone, he is now eating and looking brighter which has made me feel so much better. Unfortunately though he still is drinking heaps and urinating a lot poor boy but the vets said that should change when he starts on the florinef. --Lhok -
I have next to no knowledge about Schnauzers except I love their bearded faces :D does anyone on this forum have any? Just editing to add I am not against rescue and I would be interested in getting a rescue if the dog in question fills all the criteria. I would be more interested in an adult rescue then a pup only because I would know the final size and have a chance to know if there was any problems like thunderphobia etc and I could take Treb for a meet and greet. I started this thread to get a launch pad so I can research and have a chat to breeders about their breeds as it takes me a while to sort through the information and make a decision. If that makes sense? --Lhok
