  1. So I did get in contact with Happypaws via facebook and Aust working dog rescue but no one has actually come to pick up the crate so it is still here awaiting a rescue that might like it. --Lhok
  2. It's been a while Miss, but last night I had a dream and you were in it. I have no idea where we were as I have never seen a garden so beautiful nor one that had a huge waterfall with a sandy bottom. You were having a blast though jumping in and out of the water and you encouraged me to go swimming with you. Raiden was also there running in and out of the shallows. We all went for a long romp through the garden and then down a track but you guys only went so far and then turned back and I woke up and realised I didn't have you both anymore. Bittersweet but beautiful. --Lhok
  3. In my experience StephM the breeder will be wanting to know about anything like that, I don't know who your breeder is but the breeder who I got Treb and Raiden off would want to know anything like that which affects the dogs she has bred. If that makes sense. --Lhok
  4. Who knows? I certainly don't. But if you believe the RSPCA, they weren't put down on a whim. I'm not believing the RSPCA on this as there was also another senior vet that was going to take a pup too plus there is/was videos of the pups running around so unless these issues just magically appeared the day the foster carer dropped them off to the RSPCA for their check up which was part of the foster deal I'm not buying the RSCPA's story because it would have to mean that two senior vets and a ANKC breeder would have had to be seriously blind not to see what the RSPCA is trying to say was the reason. The person who fostered them was on here for a while and the story was on here but I can't seem to find it. --Lhok
  5. I'd say profound temperament problems or heath issues would justify the decision but without further facts, It's hard to say anything about the decision. The people who fostered the pups one is/was a ankc whippet breeder and her husband is a vet, so surely they would have picked up on things if they were there. The other thing the foster carer was told the pups and mum were put down due to behaviour issues and if you read the comments the RSPCAWA then say: RSPCA WA | February 6, 2014 | Permalink Reply Hi Robyn, The allegations are completely false. The puppies were not euthanased on behavioural grounds. The mother and the puppies were part of a large scale animal cruelty seizure conducted two years ago. The case is currently before the courts. Tragically all the puppies had significant hip, back and patella abnormalities, and were in significant pain and discomfort. These conditions were not treatable or curable. So which is it? --Lhok
  6. The German Pinscher were used as stable dogs and are very good ratters from my small amount of research. --Lhok
  7. I wouldn't be suprised if he thought he was just getting a cuddle if you weigh him like that Akitas are pretty smoochy. --Lhok
  8. If he doesn't seem to want to eat much and he is a bit of a greedy guts I would be getting a blood test done on him to rule out problems. Not saying that there is something wrong but both times I noticed something wrong with my Akitas it was due to a lack of growth and they were off their food or were picky eaters. Both times it turned out to be something to do with their kidneys. --Lhok
  9. I put up a photo of Treb my akita in the akita thread to give you an idea on what my guy looks like, at last weigh in (around 10months old) he was around the 44kg mark but the photo while not a good one shows just how lanky he is. He was also going through coat blowing at the time of the photo, I suspect Treb will get more chunky as time goes on. --Lhok
  10. I don't think they stop growing at 8 months considering Treble is still filling out. Sure they slow down a bit, how does he look in terms of physical appearance? --Lhok
  11. oh awesome, I wouldn't have thought of looking in BCF. My friend's dog would love one Thanks :D. I think one would be lost on poor Treb as he just doesn't do water apparently  unless the water is ankle deep and fresh water so he can drink it. --Lhok
  12. Nova looks pretty happy with his life jacket on. Do you mind me asking where you got it from? --Lhok
  13. Awesome photos! I love the one with him jumping out of the water by himself. Treb is still not a water baby he only goes up to his ankles and even then it is only to step in because everyone else was in the water too. --Lhok
  14. Depends on the lines as to what age they will be when they fully mature. Some Akitas are done for height by age 1 especially some of the smaller ones and some take longer but on average it is somewhere around 18 months to 2 years. Treble is almost a year old and he is still rather lanky but weighs in at 45kg he has been between 33-45kg since he was around 7 months old. I wouldn't really be concerned that your dog isn't putting on weight as long as he looks trim and there aren't other things that are cause for concern. The best person to ask about what to expect regarding your dog is your breeder :) --Lhok
  15. I'm medium to long haired I shed seasonally so when I do there are long hairs to deal with I prefer autumn and spring when it isn't too hot or cold but I deal with both ok for the most part When not doing anything I am happy to veg out but when I am active I like to run I like things to be fair and consistent I like company but I'm pretty happy to be left to do my own thing more often then not I only really like a select few people. --Lhok Not really sure what I would be from that..
  16. I trialled one on my dog who was pretty bad for anxious behaviours. I don't believe it did much for her unfortunately so it really comes down to the individual dog in question, the collar also can't get wet at all if it does it stops working. --Lhok
  17. Missy my first dog was bought from the local RSPCA, she was lovely but was a lot of work to maintain serial escape artist, prone to anxiety behaviours and took being afraid of thunder to the next level. After owning her, I decided that I wanted to know what was behind my dog genetics wise and that it is very important to know how a dog is raised so having said that I probably wouldn't go down the road of a shelter dog and if I did want to I would be looking at going through a reputable rescue that knows the dogs in their care. --Lhok
  18. Sticky situation I think the dog owner is being quite reasonable about paying the vet bill for the injured cat. I don't think they should have to keep paying for ongoing bills for the cat though, not saying the cat owner will do this but I would be concerned about the cat owner asking for money for the general upkeep of the cat because who can say after an attack that did a fair amount of damage to be costing four grand what would other ailments could be considered the aftermath of the attack? Drawing up a document that states clearly what you are willing to pay for and what you aren't and getting it signed by both parties and a JP might be a good way to go. Also make sure you get a copy of the receipt of the bill and keep it. --Lhok
  19. Merry Christmas everyone even though it is pretty much over. Everyone's puppies are looking so grown up! We had a stressful Christmas between my sil not wanting to go near my dog and freaking out if he child did to the dogs next door barking all day causing Treb to stress out enough we had to take him to the vets for assessment he is fine now though chrissy day was pretty much ruined for everyone at our place. --Lhok
  20. really? How did you find out? There was a thread a while ago with a lady that was doing it. If people are talking about my thread about getting an assistance dog, they would be way off the mark as I actually do need one. --Lhok
  21. The tarp has been strung along the fence nailed in from their side so unfortunately I can't put shade cloth up. Hasn't stopped their dogs from trying to rip it off the fence to have a go at Treb through the fence either.. After 6 years of this happening every year we are sick of it. The lady could just board her dogs to save all the dramas if she doesn't want to train her dogs not to bark and to actually respond to commands.. --Lhok
  22. The horrible dogs are back this time for 6 weeks while the school holidays are on. They have put up a tarp where Treb's dog run is and it has made it super hot for him so I have let him have full use of the yard except the fence fighting is happening again. I can see this is going to be annoying. --Lhok
  23. Have they ruled out Addisons? I know you said they tested for cushings disease which is the opposite of Addisons. --Lhok
  24. With the dripping I would just kept an eye on it and see if it goes away in a few days. Baby puppies do wee a fair amount, the main worry with kidney issues which weeing lots can indicate goes hand in hand with excessive drinking so if he isn't drinking heaps. I would keep and eye on it and have a chat to a vet about it. --Lhok
  25. I'd love a standardbred, not sure how one would be with a novice though. --Lhok
