  1. Treb is on 20mg (they are blue as well) for his Addison's and he is just shy of 50kg.. so that is a pretty heavy dose for a young dog. The excessive drinking and weeing can be a side effect of the drug though and from what I have been told by the addison's dog people on the facebook groups I am in you need to wean dogs off it pretty slowly as they can get a bit of ragey when the withdrawals hit. --Lhok
  2. Happy Birthday Stan, may all the ovens/fridges you open today give you roasts! --Lhok
  3. Depends on what was agreed on in the puppy contract at the time of the sale. Also kind of depends on what the condition is as well, as a pup can appear healthy and complete vet checks then become sick, this is what happened with my boy Treb, he was fine then kind of dipped a bit when we got him, then went downhill after a surgery to fix a hernia he had and it was only then we worked out he has Addison's as it is triggered by stress. --Lhok
  4. Kinda depends I think, if the pup reached 14 months and there was nothing to suggest this condition was there at the start then I would say the owner doesn't really have recourse for compensation. However having been in the situation where the bills are mounting up I guess I could see where the owner would look at that as an option. --Lhok
  5. That is rubbish, I am so sorry you have to deal with this. It is so frustrating that council rangers don't follow up and enforce things. All it does is just excuse poor behaviour and then when the ante is upped it is "Oh we don't have the powers to enforce that we need more" --Lhok
  6. I was about to suggest the same. Keep on them to do something about it. --Lhok Yep I rang council and the ranger handling my case had left for the day but I spoke to another ranger who noted my reference number and my concerns and my ranger will call me tomorrow. I couldn't take a photo as I was driving and they were sitting on the front verandah with the dogs. Good news on my hand and foot, no fractures, bruising and soft tissue damage. Thank goodness your hand and foot are not broken. Wishing you and the greys a speedy recovery. --Lhok
  7. I was about to suggest the same. Keep on them to do something about it. --Lhok
  8. How are you all today HazyWal? I have been thinking of you since I read this early this morning. --Lhok
  9. One whole year, which has been a complete shock I miss you so much still. Sometimes I think I still hear the click click click of your nails down the hallway of my parents house when I visit, the thumping of your tail on the carpet if I walk past your spot where you always use to lay. --Lhok
  10. Depending on what it looks like will determine what the vet will do I have quite a few dogs go through the surgery and be fine some needed buttons others needed a stitches and a drainage tube. Be aware though your dog might need a elizabethan collar if they are likely to scratch at their wound. --Lhok
  11. I have to keep the door shut if I want Treble to stay inside he really does prefer to be outside on the deck stretched out on the sun bed. He will come in and stay for a bit but he much prefers to do his own thing watching up from high outside, I think he just like looking over people's back fences the snoop that he is.. --Lhok
  12. Akitas are by nature aloof with strangers, I wouldn't say that it means they won't jump on people because he loves to jump up on people who are his people and they have invited him to. From what I have seen with my guy it means he takes his time to decide if he thinks you are ok. He will certainly bark at you and stand in between me and whoever is approaching the door. I don't think you could train it out of him at all, I have been able to tell him to stop barking at whatever he deems to be a threat but he will be on alert watching your every move the whole time if he has decided that he doesn't like you also if he has decided he doesn't like you good luck changing his mind. When out and about with him he doesn't care for pats off people and will actively avoid peoples hands if they try to pat him, I don't think I could train him to just accept being handled by everyone either. However I also don't think an Akita would be a good fit for your situation as they need their people and are quite big. --Lhok
  13. I'll see if I can get some Akita paws tomorrow :D --Lhok
  14. Some spitz breeds depending on the weather can blow their coats twice in a year and the amount of hair that comes out is amazing (I have enough I could spin it for knitting). Can't really comment on Kees or Sams but I do know that my Akita likes to be with us or at least be able to see us and since I broke my ankle and haven't been able to do a whole lot with him (exercise wise) he gets kinda depressed some days. Not to mention the Spitz tendency to sometimes say stuff you jack and do whatever they want lol. --Lhok
  15. Huge hugs Puggedforlife, Rip little pug. --Lhok
  16. There is awesome beaches, and mountains with forests, if you go 10 mins out of the city west way there is farmland. Cafes and restuarants and the like as well, I grew up and still live in coffs I love it here, I'm just not great at marketing lol --Lhok
  17. It is pretty hard to get a pet friendly rental in Coffs and surrounds, Ticks are pretty much here all year, fleas arc up after it rains which it does quite often and anywhere that has sandy soil will have sandflies, mozzies are bad too in some areas. I'm not sure about distemper but parvo has been known to crop up. Also Lyme disease has been found in the area too, although the area health department is all hush hush about it. There are plenty of off leash areas mostly beaches to go to. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. --Lhok
  18. Yes, that's what I thought. Which is why the other matter of condition/behaviour of puppies observed by fostercarers not matching up with what they believed the later RSPCA decisions to be, should be reported to the WA State Administrative Tribunal. It's a separate issue. The Qld equivalent of that Tribunal, covers animal management decisions by government bodies.... & their agents. Seems the WA one does, too. Because the original owner's going thro' it, for her case. It'd be good if the matter were able to be heard by an independent Tribunal. And Im not sure it is a separate issue because the terrible health of the puppies this breeder was breeding will be used against her - however, I believe this bitch was pregnant long after the breeder could have had anything to do with it while the dogs were in care - is that right. ? Or do I have the time line confused? The pups were whelped at a foster carer's house for the RSPCA after the mother was removed from a puppy mill. Once they were returned to the RSCPA for a check up at around 4-6 weeks old the foster carer was told that the RSPCA vet had diagnosed problems with the pups behaviour as well as the mother and she wouldn't be able to have them back. The hips and knees are a new development after the story was aired around the net on savingpets and that's why they are saying the pups were put down they then went and changed the story slightly again and stated that the mother Izzy and one of the pups have been adopted. It is easy to see how people are concerned about what is going on. --Lhok
  19. I would have thought a rabbit rescue would be seen as good thing as I know in my local area if people can't get rid of their rabbits via the paper and what not they release them into the wild. At least by going to a rescue the likelyhood of some rabbits being desexed and not contributing to the wild numbers is less. --Lhok
  20. I'd still report the last dog and tell the ranger what the lady said so you have a back up. The only way dog parks will ever become safer is if people know that if they can't control their dog and something happens it is likely to get them in trouble. hopefully Ronin and you recover from this well and doesn't have any lasting effects on the both of you. --Lhok
  21. There is A.W.A.R.E dogs which source their dogs from rescue and then train them. --Lhok
  22. There are several assistance dog groups that train dogs for the role they will do if the people aren't dog savvy. If it was me, I probably would be looking in that direction rather then getting a puppy and trying to train their own. --Lhok
  23. Breeding carriers as long as it is documented isn't the end of the world. Yes the goal is to eliminate the disease but you also don't want to severely limit the breeding lines by only breeding clear dogs. The point of puppy owners breeding their carrier dogs together unknowingly is always a concern which is why people should be absolutely clear as to why the pup in question is to be desexed. Then if they do breed it down the track they can't say they didn't know. As far as I am concerned ignorance isn't a defence. --Lhok
  24. Gorgeous photos I love gray horses. --Lhok
  25. Maybe the Tsavo lions aren't kept in zoos because they have a man eating reputation.. Either way I would love to see them. --Lhok
