One of my dogs wee on a special training mat and the other dog just piddles EVERYWHERE. I dont know how to get the little one to stop just squatting. If I bring him ourside he goes on command (go on mike do a wee wee... no joke) but he seems to just have an endless supply of piddle.the other one piddles occasionally in the kitchen or if he gets really scared by something - but he doesnt signal to go outside - he just piddles on the mat... I have my self a conundrum I sometimes wish dogs were like cats.... piddle in a litter or meow to get out... nex to no training required. My dogs know its naughty - but still do it :D

How Do You Give Your Dog Tablets?
Melissa4 replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
only one of my dogs would take tablets with food - The pups I have atm, need it forced down. First thing I do is kneel on the ground. Back them into my legs and then I pop it at the back of the throat and then rub the neck works a charm goodluck -

My puppy is 4.5 months old. He went missing for a month and now he is back I've seen him try and eat his poo once or twice. I just told him no and cleaned it up ASAP. Any ideas why this would be happening??? Any ideas how to stop it???? I'm thinking that when he was gone if he got hungry he ate his poo??? All advice welcome!! Thanks

Just When I Thought I Had Toilet Training Mastered.......
Melissa4 replied to MsKatie's topic in Puppy Chat
My dogs know to stay in their bed at night - It's strange how they just know its bed time. I don't have any experience with crates. Goodluck finding the right one! -

One of my dogs is EXACTLY the same!!!!!! I put lip balm on and he'll hurl himself at me and try to eat my lips!!! He also loves grapes and anything sweet and if he can get his little paws on it (which is rarely) he'll eat it/lick it to death. I'll put perfume on and he'll start sneezing but won't leave because he likes the smell.... Strange one eh? Let me know how you go at the vet. Mel

My pups just love running around - really fast around the loungeroom table like crazy! They both just go around that and then aroung the lounge. The funniest thing is when they go opposite directions and almost run into each other - well.. sometimes they do (I shouldn't laugh) But they just get in silly moods sometimes and go crazy and make ALOT of noise even though together they weigh around 4 kg lol!

Is he getting much excersice? I remember when I had a Kelpie she used to nip a bit (including the ankles of my other pets) and this was due to her not getting enough excersise (because she needed ALOT) Border collies are similar and the main thing to attention seeking I have found is excersice. You can always say "No" which I know you have already done - however say NO tap him on the nose and then give him a toy and as soon as he puts his teeth on it say "goooood boy" in a high pitched long tone (My pups love that) Yelling OW (get him used to the word) and then igorning him until he licks or calms down seemed to work for me aswell. Have you tried Denta bones and pig ears? They are always great teething toys and dogs love them. Don't forget cats have claws for a reason - my pup soon learnt his lesson - next to no claws but it worked. A quick swipe even without claws may teach him if he hurts them. Keep me updated on your progress. Mel

Yeah - He also gets into the food so quickly - its gone by the time I look back. I've checked for worms but it is a good idea to bring some in to the vet - what is the safest and cleanest way to do that?? Thanks Mel

I have a four month old Shihtzu who went missing and is now found. Since he has been back he has spuked up a few times each day but then seems fine and playful. I'm thinking it may be because he is back onto puppy food and has bikkies and lots of water he may be over filling himself and running around too quickly. He hasn't lost any weight yet and my younger puppy has spuked once. - May just be a coincidence? - Could it be the puppy food? ("Natures own natural puppy food") The vet cheked him on Monday and said that he was fine and healthy - but when he got home he didnt seem unwell just was sick on the floor. I don't know if I should bring him to the vet again because I know that some puppy's just eat too quickly and jump around straight after and make themselves sick. Any advice????? Many Thanks Melissa

Lead Walking - Or Rather, Lead Sitting ...........
Melissa4 replied to Walkies!'s topic in Puppy Chat
Must be. Is your staffy also stuck up and stubborn? My roxy girl is - she is so naughty and bossy (even though she's the smallest and youngest out of my dogs -they are living with my dad, but they are my gorgeous girls-). She'll get in their kennel which they like to share because it's cold, and she wont let them in all day until she's cold... Little brat. She has however learnt to walk on the lead but becuase she's so small - she doesnt go too far -

Lead Walking - Or Rather, Lead Sitting ...........
Melissa4 replied to Walkies!'s topic in Puppy Chat
I was lucky with most of my puppies - They all walk well on leads except one. Chihuhua named Roxy would not walk on the lead. Continuously dragging her claws/legs/bum body on the ground. She used to do ANYTHING to get out of walking. The thing I did was brought my other dog for a walk with her and she got the gist. You could maybe bring a friends dog on a walk with yours (my pups tend to copy each other) and maybe he will copy. I like the idea of waiting and also the trying a lead on for a while idea. Good luck! let us know how you go!! -
Hi guys, I'm also looking at booking my puppy into puppy classes- any info on what type of dogs they allow (including VERY minature pups ) Thanks

My new puppy seems to enjoy sitting in the kitty litter. When we first got him, he liked to crunch it (it is crystal litter) and he'd even swallow it. I would tell him "No" in a firm, but not overly firm tone and he would stop. Now he has completely stopped, however... He will now just go and plonk himself in the litter whenever I am near it.... and will even bring a toy in there with him... It has slowed in the past week, but he still does it occasionally.. Any Ideas at all on why he likes to do this? Also, how can it be prevented, if at all? Thanks
