the vet has given him anti inflammation tablets... This morning he woke up and it's looking better... I think I am just being a worry wort. The redness has gone down and the side it spread to last night has almost disappeared. False alarm I think. If its not better by tomorrow afternoon I'll go and get the anti biotics that are waiting at the vet just incase. But I'm hoping that he will be ok without them.

The redness has seemed to spread to the other side of his nose - but is no longer as red, it's more pink... Any ideas? Should I be keeping him inside just incase something outside is setting him off?

I have no idea about the Wandering Jew... Wish I did. I have a feeling it was caused by a spider or bee, or some kind of insect. He seems to think he is invincible... clearly not.

Hi All, With his eye lids, the vet suspects it is because he was the runt of the litter and that they were a little under formed. He wad it worse when he was a little puppy, but now, at 1 year they arent fully fixed which is why she recommends surgery. She said that he squints sometimes and his eyes are weeping which means he is in pain apparently (although he doesnt seem to be in much pain and I've seen many dogs with weeping eyes). I will hopefully be able to get a second opinion very soon, my dogs are like my kids, so it's started to worry me, especially with the guilt trip from the vet. Oh, and the vet said that it looks like a bug has bitten him (because he seems to think its fun to chase things with stingers) and its cased a reaction.

Will invest in one ASAP... I have just got back from the vet - anti-hystermine type things to take.... They've said if it doesnt get better, she will prescribe anti-biotics, then maybe a biopsy!!! He also has curled eye lids that she checked on while he was there - he needs an $800 operation to correct them to stop him from becoming blind as because he is 1 next month, they will not get better from here... it never seems to end does it.

1120 is vet time - I hope he is ok, my poor little baby.

I did try him on some pedigree can food (just to see if he would try something newish, I dont usually feed them canned) He only had a little bit, but it may have done something. A vet might be a great help i think... I'm a worry wart. As much as it doesn't seem to be annoying him, it's annoying me.

Hi All, Pics are attached... He eats out of very hard plastic (almost like acrylic) But he has since he was 9 weeks old. Hope the pics help. This morning when he woke up (it wasnt really worse) but it was a little more moist. ???

He did have some canned food - which he only ate a little bit of.... But he hasn't been anywhere new... Should I be worried?

Hi All, I have an 11 month old pure male maltese who currently has red/swollen lips. They don't seem to be causing him any pain. His lips have little red/pink bumps over them (one is near his nose) and they kind of look like human dermatitis almost and it isn't weeping (yet) As it is not bothering him too much, I'm wondering if I should wait a few days before I take him to the vet, and also if anyone has any information on how I can treat this at home to see if it will get better on its own? I'd appreciate any information. Thanks in advance Mel

Hi Guys, I have just noticed that 11 month old male Shihtzu has a bit of a smelly bum.... Ralphy does not have a swollen bum, but when I tried to give it a wash (thought it may be some poo) it hurt him a tiny bit, but it's not stopping him from doing anything, and doesn't seem to be bothering him otherwise. The smell did not go away when I cleaned it - and now its smelling a little bit like infection. Any ideas on what it could be - I do plan on calling the vet tomorrow - But I am a worrying doggy parent and would like to know experiences now while I wait until tomorrow. Thanks in advance, Mel

Hi all, My 8 month old MalteseX Shihtzu has a lump about the size of a 10c piece near his rib cage. I automatically thought the worst and took him to the vet straight away and they took a cell from it and said that it looked fatty. Ralph is going back in two weeks to get it checked out to see if it needs to be removed. Has anyone else had any problems and been a worried as I am??? I am just a worry wort when it comes to my babies. The vet said it was abnormal because he is 8 months old, but my friend has a husky, and he has had them and he's a similar age. I think I just need something to put my mind at ease, I can't help but keep checking him and making sure he is functioning ok and playing and eating. Help please!

Our pups are quite similar. They don't particularly like wet weather (well one doesnt mind it) but they both aren't too fond on relieving themselves. I dont give them much of a choice, since they dont wee on the cement (only at the vet where every dog in the neighbourhood wees) I pick them up and put them in the middle of the grass and say"do wee wees" and 9 times out of 10 they do. Of course us as owners sit out there in the rain and get soaking, but it is so worth it when they wee outside. Goodluck!

Ours enjoy cat poo too - they sneak around and then come and give us kisses with rank cat poo breath. The litter tray sits on the toilet, until we get a more functional laundry... I thought they may grow out of it..... but this thread has changed my mind..

Hi My pup had one and my vet charged 100 - 150 (I cant remember exactly) to get it fixed. Although I was unhappy about the cost, I got it done as they said that many bad things could happen and if it did burst or get larger it could cost thousands to fix. I got it done, and it looks great and doesnt seem to worry him. The did it when he was desexed and charged the extra. I'm not sure why it was so much more - but I just accepted it. They did do a good job because I haven't had any more problems with it. Hope all goes well for you

My boys stopped humping each other. They are still hyper, and haven't changed bar the humping part.

How Should I Respond To 8 Month Old Puppy's Play Biting?
Melissa4 replied to fainty_girl's topic in Puppy Chat
We've always done this with our pups - we yelp really loud, and they quickly learnt to stop. At one point I even "Whimpered" like a baby puppy and they definately changed their ways. I think you would be surprised in how well they respond to it. =) Good luck! -
I use schmackos... I rip them up into tiny little bits and they really enjoy them because they arent too try and they smell quite strong. =)

Hi! I had this problem and a few DOLers advised that I give him pineapple - we found crushed pineapple worked a treat - giving him some with his meals. It seems to have worked, and he doesnt eat his poo anymore (I can always smell it in his breath when he has, which is TOTALLY gross). Goodluck with this yucky situation. Melissa

One is pure Maltese and one is MalteseXShihtzu (very Maltese though) and... We most certainly do!!!!!!!!!!!! I know when one is about to do it, because he runs around sniffing (literally running) So I pop him outside, he scratched to get back in and two minutes later there is a stinky poo on the carpet!!!!!! I have to admit, they are getting a bit better (the weeing isn't) But they are learning that poos are good outside, not inside. I'm just at whits end with the weeing, everything 30 minutes is getting the better of me! Do you have the same problems?? P.s 10 days is way too long! Their wounds are looking great, and today the OH updated me, they were outside all day, and they were fine and tired out! (finally) Just walked in with brown socks on from the partially wet day

Hi AGAIN all Sorry about another post - I seem to have alot to ask. My dog Ralph always seems to hit his head on the loungeroom table. When he is playing with my other pup at inside time, he tends to gallop across the loungeroom and ends up mis judging the entry to under the lougeroom table. The other day, he did hit it quite hard, he just shook it off (literally) and just kept play. Naturally, I thought he may have hurt himself quite seriously, all he had was a little bump, and seemed focused (well as focused as he can be) and no pain on the head when I touched it. It's interesting. Any ideas on how to stop it? cheers

Try Vicks Vapour rub or Deep Heat on the doors and skirts. goodluck
