Heather told me that they were upgrading the system and it would possibly be 'SOME MONTHS' before we can long in and pay online etc. So dont hold your breath, I'd say around Aug if your gonna have a comptition ETA: My membership hadn't lapsed it just wasn't being recognised by the system

Thanks for the ideas Praise seems to work with him so I think I will keep going with that for now. I am also teaching him his name too, which he is seeming to come to now, again I make a big fuss when he comes to me with lots of stupid excited voice praise and lots of pats. Toys....I have a few squeeky toys I could try and see how we go. Jett works on squeek toys, she is too much of a gutso when it comes to food rewards, she just wants more *LOL* I will try toys as well and see how he goes with that. Thanks again for the ideas, will also try the chicken idea, or beef, he's a real meat eater

Picked up a new rottweiler puppy on the weekend, he's 6 months old - such a sweet boy. He hasn't had any training whatsoever, so we have to start from the very beginning. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can use to encourage him to sit etc? He doesn't respond at all to food (he's never really been given 'treats' as such before and didn't know what to do with the piece of kabanna that I tried to use yesterday). I did get him to sit last night and this morning before his dinner, I just told him to sit and then gently put him into a sit then gave lots and lots of praise (verbal and physical) when he sat, told him "free" and put his food down. I also need ideas for something to encourage him to heel along beside me and generally I have used treats for this. He is just not interested in them at all and isn't really used to the lead. We start formal training tomorrow night at the RCV . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! Trina ps.... here he is below eating a lamb shank (he knew exactly what to do with this ) - he's fluffy cuz he'd just had a bath and wasn't completely dry Bandit

lovely photo PPS. What do you guys use to edit your photos (ie making them sepia/BW partial colouring etc)? -
I have had my bitch on EPH (giant breed puppy) since she was 4 months old, she is now 15 months old today and her coat is shiney and lovely and soft. She is on EPH because she got dandruff from IAMS. Her stools are small and she is a healthy weight (38kg). Mind you she is also fed raw beef and heart or ox cheek as well (sometimes, like tonight chicken frames), with a little yoghurt and also sardines. She gets about 4 cups of EPH per night and 1 kg of meat. I will ONLY use the holistic brand, ahve heard select isn't as good. Every dog is different, what works for some dogs does not work for others. I have heard many rottweiler owners have switched from EPH to Artemis (aust company) and they are all pleased with it. Artemis are our the RCV's new sponsors so I am sure many of us will be changing for that reason. At this stage I am still happy with EPH and probably will not change unless I win a bag *LOL* ETA: In the pic below you can see how glossy her coat is and that she is not skinny or fat...

Griff I am so very sorry Sinna was a very special dog, I loved hearing about all of her antics. I loved the most recent photos you posted of her guarding the christmas tree and of hearing of how she barked at the hot air balloon as it flew past.....what a wonderful life you gave her!! Fly high with the angels Old Biddy ..... there are plenty of black'n'tan ones who will meet you at the bridge. May she rest in peace Trina

The Beginning Of The End
TrinaJ replied to Herr Rottweiler's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know of one club that is helping financially and I am sure its members would be willing to sign the petition (a question to an interested party of whether a petition was being prepared was asked at a recent meeting, no petition at this stage was underway). This club is also organising an event to help raise more funds (of which I have been given the task of doing). I wonder if people actually realise that using a tug-toy with your dog in Victoria is deemed illegal and the dog 'could' be classified as being a dangerous dog under this stupid legislation and therefore have to be muzzled. The reality of this case is that if the charges stick and these people are prosocuted eventally we 'could' see the ban of imported dogs into Australia which would be a sad day indeed for our breeds. Dogs who are here that are SchH titled could be castrated and forced to wear a muzzle (this was discussed at the meeting). I enjoy playing tug with my dog, it is a reward and she gets a lot of enjoyment out of it. Does this make her dangerous, no! A lack of training, stupid owners and no socialisation makes a dog dangerous. I have found that SchH trained dogs are more stable in temprement than those who are not. I would be happy to pass on a petition for signing. Trina -
In Loving Memory Of "odin" - Alpinarc Fantom King
TrinaJ replied to EISHUND's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Veanna, I am so deeply sorry for your loss of Odin, such a handsome boy. From reading your story it sounds like Odin was sent to you for a purpose and that was to protect you and your family. He served his purpose and is back with God now but will continue to watch over you. You had a very special little man and even though his time with you was short he left his paw prints in your heart and in the hearts of many. RIP little angel, you will be missed by many! ~*hugs to you Veanna*~ Trina -

Halti Or Check Chain For Basic Training
TrinaJ replied to Raven's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Had 3 male rottweilers and all were trained using correction collars then went onto flat collars and where I lived were also allowed to be off leash but under control. never had an issue with any of them. I now have a rottweiler bitch who I cannot use the correction collar on, she pulls like nobody's business, she is such a strong little girl. I have to use the halti as the foundation of her training. Training her with the halti is going really well, but I do look forward to the day when she can have a flat collar. Although at Rotty Club training nights she must be fitted with her correction collar, so we've not been able to go for a while, instead we have personal lessons every fortnight with me working on her daily. -
I have been taught pretty much the same thing. 'Come' is to sit in front and 'Heel' is go behind and sit at my left side or the loop in front to left (as above) amd we also change it up. Mine too was to stop the anticipation finishing. I also have to use the Free command, she will sit and wait until I have released her by word or signal - well this is what is MEANT to happen, we all have our good and bad days *LOL*
