  1. How was it? We had training that night so was unable to attend.
  2. As per the others, never in a million years would I consider mating those 2 dogs again and I would also be screening both Sire and Dam to see if they are clear and desexing the one that wasn't clear. Unfortunately the tests dont detect 'silent affected' dogs, however they still have the SAS gene. This is where it becomes complicated as SAS can be thought to be caused by the dominent gene which can appear as a visible health issue in some dogs and and an invisible threat in others!! We have been relatively lucky here in Australia as this condition is not as prevalient as in the US but it is also not a test the NRC(A) requires breeders to do here in Australia (unfortunately) however in the US it is done to obtain OFA cardiac certification. Here all we are required to do is Hip, elbow, eye and mouth certs as Stolz said. In my honest opinion to do a repeat mating is just absolute madness and very unethical. SAS becomes more severe as the dog matures and can lead to sudden death. I hope your puppy will be okay I would be interested to hear who the breeder is (for my own knowledge) if you wouldn't mind sending me a private message as this is just disgusting!
  3. City of Casey Full Fee $127.30 (a full fee must be paid if the dog has precioulsy been declared a menacing, dangerous or restricted breed) FF - Pensioner $63.65 Reduced Fee $27.50 (desexed, microchipped, working stock, breeding, VCA member, Obedience trained as per Sec 13 of regs, over 10 years old RF - Pensioner $13.80 Their fees are quite reasonable considering this council will charge you to wipe your nose!!!
  4. SBT101, is she panting more than usual?
  5. Consult was $30 and U/S was $60
  6. Well its nearly been 1 week and it looks like the ultrasound was accurate. Jett has not gained any weight at all and doesn't look the slightest bit pregnant Dunno what is going on with her weird silent half seasons.... Am going to keep a close eye on her and if it happens again (will be 3rd time) I will get vets to investigate further.
  7. Before we built our dog runs we played musical dogs, continually rotating them. Was a bit of a pain but we survived.
  8. Thanks Andisa and to everyone who has replied.
  9. I am so sorry for the tragic loss of your grandfather. May he rest in peace. My thoughts are with you. Trina
  10. Andisa, No I didn't see any tie at all, I didnt witness them doing anything but playing, so its highly doubtful. My main reasons for concern are because the judge at our specialty show asked me if she was pregnant, then 4 longtime breeders also said she looked pregnant to them. Thanks Sway, if she starts looking like she is pregnant to me, I will take her and get the relaxin test done.
  11. As she had a silent season (I saw bleeding, took her to the vet, he did a swab, out of season, did a prog test 114.7 so she had recently ovulated) I am unsure as to the exact time... she had no swelling, only the one spot of blood, but Bandit was howling etc. At a 'guess' she would have been ultrasounded at 28 days. Can I get a blood test to determine if she is pregnant?
  12. Just wondering the frequency people get ultrasounds taken of their bitches to be told they are 'empty' and then end up having a litter. My bitch was ultrasounded on Tuesday and I was told she was empty....which is great because this mating wasn't planned (she had a silen season and was with my boy pretty much the whole time), however I am now watching her closely to make sure she doesn't suprise me and have puppies.
  13. Praying that they find your grandfather soon.... My thoughts are with you and your family Trina
  14. Sorry for your situation, poor puppy, but NOT your fault. YOU had a secure fenced yard. I personally wouldn't pay any money toward the vet bill as that 'may' been seen as admitting guilt in some way. I would, however, buy a dog crate and some toys for the puppy to recover in. Wishing you all the best!
  15. I suggest you give Judith of Artemis Pet Food Australia a call, she will be able to tell you. The Power is a great food however you have a pup, this food is suggested for 12 months and over. Judith may have some advice for you. I know you said the pup doesn't really like raw, but Ox Cheek will definately put on the weight but can be quite rich so dont feed too much initially. Lamb flaps or any lamb really should work (necks, shanks etc).
  16. Just curious, how much does vet bed actually cost?
  17. Hi Stolz, I have heard that Stuart Mason is very good at Monash. He is a specialist in canine theriogenology. I actually saw him today about Jett, he's lovely. Here is a link to their reproduction page : http://www.monashvet.com.au/reproduction.htm EFS :D
  18. At WoofPurNay Vet CLinic in Narre Warren North the cost is $12 for 12 mins. Shampoo Condition Flea & Tick Rinse Blowdry and Disenfect the tub As I flea my dogs when they have heartguard I do not bother doing the Flea and Tick Rinse, I also bring my own shampoo and conditioner (Aloveen) so I just use the straight water. Unfortunately with large dogs the 12 minutes is up before I can get a chance to dry them. Thankfully they have another dryer there however the power is less than a quatrer to the hyrdo 'blaster' dryer so I towel dry as well I really need to get my own hydrobath....
  19. My first rotty was the 'runt' of the litter, he ended up being one of the largest as an adult
  20. I am going to ask them when I see them next.
  21. That's what I thought too Cosmo. Apparently they (the neighbours) knew he wasn't desexed (we did not as we dont see him - he's smallish x). I am baffled as to why they havne't had him done yet also why he wasn't done prior to them taking him. THe only reason we found out is because our bitch is in season (she was in the dog run where she is safe) and neighbour asked why she was in the run, hubby told him and he said that's good, our dog hasn't been desexed
  22. OH was talking to the neighbour the other day. THey got a cross bred dog from the pound about 6 months ago. Found out he's not been desexed Is this not a compulsory thing now that all dogs and cats sold via the pound/animal shelter are desexed??? I am wondering why the dog is still entire as they have no plans on breeding with it (thank God).
  23. its a simple open book exam but questions are very poorly written. If you read the handout notes and re-read the questions and understand what they are trying to ask you shouldn't fail unless you circle something in error because you are tired which is what I did ( I put the correct order of a normal whelping in the wrong order by accidently putting 1 next to delivery of the pup prior to the dilation of the cervix - DUH I've had children I KNOW the cervix must dilate prior to anything happening). Kudos to the VCA, I think if you fail twice you shouldn't be able to re-sit for 12months...or perhaps if you do fail twice you should be made to attend a seminar and then be allowed to resit say within 6 months... ETA I didn't fail.
