  1. Heidi always has more food in winter, seems more hungry. We feed Eukanuba and she eats probably about 3 cups total a day, plus a half cup of Tucker time. Training treats are cut up tucker-time, cheese etc. How tall is Leila? Heidi currently weighs 30 kilos. And Heidi also gets a couple of 2x2 biscuits and a venison ear daily.
  2. Ours get unstuffed here too. I re-stuff the largest 'unstuffed' with all the other un-stuffed's and then she re-un-stuffs them. Understand.
  3. They are great photo's. Very happy looking girl.
  4. Heidi has a major fixation with coat hangers, especially crocheted ones. Do not know where it comes from, but she had always had a 'thing' for them in particular. Other than that, the only thing that never ever lasts long is a bath/shower scrunchie. No matter what I do, they will not last 24 hours. I've given up buying them.
  5. Beautiful, peaceful pic.
  6. Does your partner take him out again right before bed at 2ish? Is he getting any food from your partner at this time also? I never had a crate either, but up until about 15 weeks of age with Heidi, I use to take her out at 11pm, and, I would wake at 3ish and take her out again then. The time gradually increased more towards morning in the weeks that followed. Once I didn't wake up, and she lasted the night, until 6am, and I then realised that I didn't really need to be waking and taking her out anymore. It feels like forever when you are toilet training. I didn't enjoy it at all..... but now I look back, and it was such a short time. Just felt like I was on wee/poo alert constantly. You will get there, and your pup will not be a pup for long. It goes very fast, but he is still a baby, and learning lots each day. Patience is the key, and you will turn a corner in the right direction one day soon.
  7. Definitely different, but in a nice way. I too, prefer the second. The first makes me think of a horror movie,,,, I think because it's got darkness near the curtain. Even though the second one is more "misty", "soft", it's not spooky as such. Interesting. You just need Rugerfly's Yoda sitting on the edge. He's in several photo's in another thread.

    Tina

That made me cry too. RIP Tina. What a beautiful girl.
  9. thanks - look good do you use them very often? I am askign as whichever kennel we choose will be a regular place for whenever we go away so we want to ensure a good place where we can build a relationship. I am a real worry wart - probably because i am the main (only) carer of the dogs. I even worry if i go away and leave the dogs at home with the man and child I have used them 3 or 4 times. We used another kennel with our old girl (now gone), and didn't have a very good experience, even though the kennels reputation was good. We have only put Heidi into Calabash, as, after much research, I finally felt comfortable with leaving her at this place. The first time we left her there was for a week over the Christmas holidays 2 years ago. She suffered terrible diarrhoea due to a combination of being away from home for the first time, possible change in routine, although she was happy and appeared unstressed. We have since found out that she cannot eat anything with red meat in it, so the diarrhoea was no fault of the kennels at all.... just the kibble. I think they feed Royal Canin, which is a great food, but just didn't agree with our dog. We were updated daily on her condition, due to the fact that it was a heat wave week, and they knew I was worried. They looked after her perfectly, kept her well hydrated, and did medicate her for her runny poo eventually. We are allowed to take our own food out there for them to feed her. When we picked her up, her condition was great, and I was very happy with their care. She has since been another 3 times, and all has been fantastic. Well worth it, for peace of mind.
  10. here It is out Dural way, Arcadia. Great kennels though. Give me peace of mind.
  11. One sentence I've never forgotten. "Remember you have your dog, and your whole life....... but your dog has just you"
  12. Thanks for the update. I was wondering today how things were. Hope things improve rapidly, and she doesn't continue to have any problems. Your other dogs are lovely too.
  13. I've never seen the odour blocks on the website.

    Best Food

Hello again.. I seem to be following you around the forum. Um, ok, for a pup, or any dog, I would not go with the Pal puppy. As your dog is also very young, a lot of things can often cause upset tum's, especially when introducing new foods. It is best to do so gradually. Do you know what he was being fed before he came to you? Some people moisten dry food for 1/2 hour before giving to puppies. It may make it a bit more manageable at the moment. Other people feed raw diets, which suits some, but not all. If you were to do this, your best bet is to look into the dietary requirement with lots of research. Opinions on the 'best' dog foods out there are very varied. I feed Eukanuba dry, with Tucker time. I feed twice daily, morning and evening. Some people feed once, and others feed 3 times daily. For a pup as young as yours, he will still need 3 feeds or 4 per day. A lot of puppies get tummy upsets when moved to a new environment as well. It can be a stressful experience, even if you think he is perfectly calm and happy, it is still a big deal to him.
  15. Your welcome, and welcome to DOL, I just read your other topic. Glad your pup is in loving arms. A lot is missed when they leave their litter mates early, but if you do lots of reading, and get your expectations in the right place, I'm sure your pup will continue to grow to be a wonderful dog and a much loved family member. Patience, patience, and more patience.
  16. You have a very young puppy, and it takes a lot of patience for the messages to be understood. You are doing well with the praising, definitely not old fashioned at all. Much better than the old way of disgracing a dog for doing his/her business. You could try a roll of lunch meat, or better, some proper dog food rolls, like Tucker Time, available at pet supply stores, or vets. Cut into small bits, and put in ziplock bags in your freezer. Even little bits of cheese will do. Make sure you take your puppy outside regularly, after waking, after playing, and after food. It is frustrating, but the message will eventually get across. You might be only a few weeks away from success, or even a few months for some dogs. You could put a bumbag around your waist, to keep treats in, or else, have them on hand close by, so that you can give the reward with high pitched verbal praise as soon as he toilets. Before too long, this will hopefully sort out, but you will have to remember that he is just a baby, and learning many many things at the moment. Good luck. Also, I remember somebody saying to me at the time... "For every piddle you let happen inside, is another opportunity lost for praising him for doing it outside" You will eventually learn that there is a sign that you are possibly missing out on that is indicating he is about to toilet. It's very easy to miss in the early days, as it seems like they pee so so quickly.
  17. Poor you. Poor Astro. That sounds like quite an ordeal. Healing vibes send your way.
  18. Jules, I suppose if you can turn a blind eye to the possibility of slack service, (which is annoying, but doesn't happen all the time, it seems), then you will be very happy with the product. As far as I know, they are not dodgy or anything, so you will get what you pay for in product. Just cross your fingers you get prompt replies.
  19. Have you given up on the roasts VJB ? and what's with the recommendation for "little" & "tiny"??? Hi Vickie.. ;) Your roast beef was the best....biggest treat chunk she ever got, but Heidi has issues with red meat, although Tucker Time seemingly has a reputation of giving no problems. It's been a while, but we're slowly giving off cuts of our roasts again, with no problem, so maybe its time to treat her to a famous roast again.
  20. No RL, no affiliation with the company, just a very happy customer re the product. Just so cost effective, and lasts ages for the average home.
  21. I find Tuckertime a great training treat. You can get it in a big roll at some pet supply stores, or the vet. Cut into little bits, and put into zip lock bags with a mix of tiny bits of cheese (maybe too much for his tummy if you give him too much cheese in one go). A bit smelly, but good, is mixing some kibble with a sardine. Let stand for a while to soak up any juice, and you will find most dogs loves the taste of anything fishy. I've even use fish flavoured dry cat biscuits on the rare occasion... not all the time, just as my emergency treats. I would find it hard to think he will resist the temptation of tasty treats. It makes a huge difference to their ability to focus on you. Let us know how you go. He is still young.
  22. Barka Parka also does some.
  23. Someone else is living my life. I'm so so familiar with these exact events at least 700 times a day ...... (slight exaggeration)
