  1. I smiled plenty watching that. Great clip. Dogs are truly amazing.
  2. I've heard Tucker time is great, but I've not tried it myself. I would look up there website, which might have listed ingredients.
  3. Very good. More stories please.
  4. Yes, my dog does this, stares and tap dances to communicate. I think its funny. I often wonder about her when she goes to boarding kennels, and how the new routine could change "at home" habits, but we all merrily continue on when she comes back. ;)
  5. This is exactly what I would do if I had 2 dogs. I'm sure it would be fine.
  6. My dog had a reaction to Advantix, not as bad as what you described, but lots of head shaking, itchy ears and not herself for a day or so afterwards. It took me 3 months to put the 2 together. (One of the months she was put into boarding the morning I applied it, so I wasn't there to witness anything odd in her behaviour). I am going to give Frontline Plus a go, as suggested by our vet. I've heard that some find it not as effective, so am yet to see if it works ok. My vet recently said that a new product had just come on the market (days ago), but I'm unsure what it is exactly. Will keep watching to see what others are using, but as each dog can react differently, and sometimes very severely by the sounds of things, I certainly won't be applying it before leaving her at boarding kennels without knowing how it affects her.
  7. I'm not sure on how bad ticks are around here. With our other old girl, we only used treatments during the summer months for fleas, and never in 13 years had a tick on her, and I don't even recall many fleas in that time either. ?? It's a bit hard to tell if we are in a "low tick" area. The vet said that there is an ingredient in Advantix that some dogs react to, and Frontline Plus does not have this ingredient. The Frontline Plus packaging says it controls brown dog ticks for up to one month, and paralysis ticks for up to two weeks.... I just don't want her to have any bad reactions. I really didn't know that these products were so toxic. I'm required to give her something prior to boarding her, so I will give this a go and hope there is no reaction.
  8. I've been using Advantix since we got Heidi but over the last 3 or 4 months, I noticed lots of ear flapping and scratching for a few days afterwards. Even had the vet come and check her ears etc,,, nothing abnormal noticed. The last time I applied it, I suddenly realised in the middle of the night what the problem was. No advantix next month, so we have decided to try Frontline Plus.
  9. Yes, she eats all of it. For breaky she gets it plain, and dinner she gets it mixed with the sardines, yoghurt or something to add some variety so she doesn't get bored. What colour is the diarrhoea?
  10. My dog reacts to anything with red meat in it (causing loose stools etc), so we are on Eukanuba Light and everything has been great since. I also add sardines once or twice a week, or natural yoghurt. The only reason we are on the 'light' is because she cannot have anything with much fat in it as is causes loose stools too. I can only give her venison ears as chew treats as they are very low in fat.
  11. Lovely pic's. Looks like a great weekend was had by all.

    Fraser

Big lump in throat and a few tears after reading that. RIP Fraser.
  13. I have an itunes folder for my dog. It has relaxation music in there. Somehow, she seems to settle and zonk her out more when thats on, rather than her being interested in following me from room to room while I get on with household duties. People who see my computer say "WHAT!!!.... you have "Heidi's list" hahah.ahahh.....
  14. Agree with everyone on the fact that it can happen in any breed, but for me, the non aggressive tendency was one of the reasons we chose to get a GSP. I've not met an aggressive one as yet, and my girl certainly isn't.
  15. She has a bed next to ours where she starts out her night sleep, then at some point, makes her way on/in our bed. I don't mind, it's lovely for morning cuddles and wouldn't want to miss out on that lovely time in the morning.
  16. Tragic. RIP. So sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you.
  17. My last dog was PTS at home and I am so glad I made the choice to do it here, where she was comfortable and at ease. It's such a hard time, and I felt very reassured by our vet, who was so kind and gave us all the time we needed. When her final breath was taken, it was so peaceful (although I was grief stricken). I know it helped ease some of the hurt, so please ask your vet to come to you if this is what you would prefer. ..
  18. It's funny when they bark at their toys. Shyla's a cutie.
  19. We are loving venison ears here as well. My dog "asks" for one each day at 11.50am.... stares up at container and starts the tail wagging. I'll be buying them in bulk from now on.
  20. Blood can be present with cystitis. Very unpleasant for your poor girl, but she will soon be on the mend now she's seen the vet and is getting treatment. My dog was quiet for a day or so. Pain relief medication tends to make that happen, but I was surprised at how quickly it all cleared up. Unfortunately it returned again 3 weeks later, which I've been told can happen after they come off the medication. Best to check that infection is fully gone.
  21. My dog always starts the "howling" again after school holidays when the kid entertainment disappears. It takes a few weeks to settle again, but I do find it stressful listening to her carry on as I do a bit of work just across the road from my place and I can hear her.
