I always put my cooked bones into a plastic bag and straight into the wheely bin outside. No chance to pinch out of the bin. Funny, Bianca, who is certainly tall enough to raid the inside bin, never does, yet my late mini dachshie Chappa did it regularly (and without tipping it over either - still don't know how she did it).

Introducing...suthenskys Single N Luvn It

I thought "piglet". (b4 looking at the tail) Very cute tho. Good luck with him. -
We had had visitors whilst I was at work. My sister put the leftover choccie bikkies into a plastic container with lid, and left them on the bench. I came home later to find the container (still with lid attached and bikkies inside) on Bianca's bed. She must have known there was something yummy inside, but hadn't gotten around to figuring out how to get into it

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. Yes, she had a better life than she could have - she was one of the many offspring of a stray cat (Mother) that hung around the forklift drivers' shed where I worked. The forkies used to feed her (the mother), but no one did anything else. I managed to convince the plant manager to give me some money out of the slush fund to have her desexed, so no more litters. Kitty was in her second last one. I went on holidays for a few days, and when I came back Mother was in a very bad way - had been attacked by something. I asked how long she had been like that. A couple of days apparently. Geez did I tear some heads off! In the end I took her to be pts as she was very badly damaged. So yes, I think Kitty did very well to get out of there. Actually, some years later I found a tiny stray kitten under a bush in the display centre at the same property. My sister kept him and now he's a HUGE lump of cat, very spoilt. Anyway, a sad day for us. However I know I did the right thing sending her to the bridge as it was time.

So sad, sorry for your loss Longclaw. She's very pretty.

Had to have my pretty girl Kitty pts this morning. She had had a thyroid problem for some time now and was getting very thin, no matter how much she ate. Last night I gave the cats some ox cheek and during the night she started vomiting and the runs were just dripping out of her. Sometimes she eats too much and throws up, but this was different, she was in pain and all scrunched up. She looked very tired and it was time to let her go. She came to me as a kitten from the industrial site I worked at at the time. Nominally she was my son's cat, but really she was mine all along. She was small, dainty and very pretty. She was blue, but she had faint stripes on her tail. Thank you sweetie for 19 years of cuddles.

The vet could have a look while she's under anyway. -
Annual Check Ups - How Much Much & What Done

His consults are reasonable, but geez, he scrapes it back off you if the dog needs surgery -
I think Werribee Vet Hospital (a training hospital) keeps dogs for blood donations. GAP Vic gets some of their adoption greys from there.

I don't like that ad for the PediPaws trimmer. The people just hold the thing continually on the nails instead of short times, so the nails would heat up.

I wrote this for my little girl ages ago, and thought I'd post it here. I miss her every day. She was a lovely little dog (dashchie), and used to keep my husband company during the day (he was injured at work and couldn't work any more). Chapparelle (Chappa) 30/5/86-10/9/03 The world’s a darker place today I lost my special friend. Seventeen years she’s been with me But I knew it was the end. No longer happy, playful dog A black & tan delight But old and tired and full of pain Bereft of sound and sight. Your back was crook, your fur was grey, Your teeth were non existent We had to feed you with a spoon It broke our hearts to see it. I didn’t want to take you there. I hoped you’d die in bed, But a whispered word reminded me Of the duty that I had. Two thousand dollar dog you’re called. Wasn’t the price paid for you. But on the way from the breeder’s house I hit a kangaroo! (bugger!) Companion for a housebound “Dad”. His company you’d keep. Watchdog for a baby boy. You’d sit and guard his sleep. (and pinch his cheese, given the opportunity!) The injured man has passed now too, though You did your duty well. The baby boy is six foot tall (well, nearly) And misses you like hell. But I miss my little dog so much No claw sounds on the floor. Your bed empty and put away. No welcome at the door. The world’s a darker place today….

I'm so sorry for your loss, so sorry that it turned out to be her. Run free Mahli.

I buy sardines for my dog from the "human" tinned fish section, not cat food ones. I buy Coles/Safeway branded sardines. They probably come from overseas, but they're supposed to be OK for humans, so don't think there would be a problem with them.

Old Dogs And Changing Their Living Conditions.

Medication might have been Stilboestral (sp). Know it's used for incontinent bitches, but is it effective for males? If he tends to stay on his bed, either have a waterproof cover and several fleecy blankets that you can rotate whilst washing, or maybe use a cut down folded washable quilt instead of the bed. Bianca had a couple of episodes of weeing on my bed, so now I put a plastic sheet over her half of the bed, then an absorbant blanket of some sort, then my old doona cover over the top. She can't feel the plastic thru all the padding and I know that if she has an accident, my good doona won't get wet (but it hasn't happened since thank dogness). -
Sorry, but what actually is it?

Dog Coats For Long Haired Breeds ....

Might they be a bit hot (the hurtta)? -
Unless the bucket is brimming full, they might not be able to get to the water (steep, slippery sides)? Anyway, only a long shot. Maybe it's tasty for them.

Bit of a long shot, but if the poos are fresh, the wasps might be thirsty. We get a lot of bees and wasps at the birdbath.

So sorry for your loss Rysup. Run free Paris.

Well, she came home sans 3 teeth (1 x molar, 2 x pre molar). I had bought some of the same meat I normally buy for her, but minced instead of large chop I normally get. I soaked her kibble, but it wasn't quite ready so I gave her the meat first, plus a spoonful of greek yoghurt. Well, she vacuumed that up and I gave her a little more meat as she hadn't had brekkie. That went down in a second too. Then the kibble was ready so I mooshed it up a bit and gave it to her. Hmmm, she's used to getting meat with her kibble so it was a hoot watching her search every corner of the (ice cream container) bowl looking for the missing meat. Still, can't let it go to waste so that went down the hatch too. Tomorrow morning I'll give her a little more kibble (she doesn't get much anyway as she gets a bit podgy), and I'll cook some veggies to add tomorrow night. No bones for a week or so. She's being quite sooky when she's awake (even more than usual), but she's asleep on her bed right now. I'm happy she came thru OK, she turns 7 tomorrow.

What sort of yoghurt is best? I assume not those sugar laden fake ones that crowd the supermarket shelves?

Hello all, I've also posted this in the greyhound thread, but I'd like to get a wider view. Bianca is going in for a dental tomorrow..one side of her mouth needs attention, and she'll probably lose one tooth. The other side is pristine. Anyway, what do you feed after a dental when they're sore? She currently eats raw beef, kibble (Euk light) and chicken frames or lamb necks. I can't feed anything too wet or it might go right thru her. Should I go with smaller bones for a few days (eg chicken necks) or, as she's eating OK on one side, should I just leave as is? Her meat is currently large chopped so she has to chew, should I get some as mince for a day or so?

My girl wet the bed twice last night, the second time AFTER I'd changed everything. She sleeps on my bed, so that meant washing sheets, doonas everything. I have a folded mattress protector and a second (old) doona cover under her, but it wasn't enough to stem the tide. I managed to get a sample and took her to the vet today, but there's no evidence of UTI in the sample, so she's been prescribed Stilboestrel (it's official! It's now cheaper than Sudafed!). Hopefully that will do the trick, but if it doesn't, the vet will have to look into it further. Tonight, a plastic layer will be added. Hopefully, I won't spend all day tomorrow washing too. Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I'd like to know how much apple cider vinegar do people put into their dog's water?

OT, but someone I know thought he was dying of some horrible cancer or bum wasting disease b/c he was passing red poos...turned out it was the large qty of beetroot he'd consumed a few days before.

I use plastic lids that you can buy and reuse. I don't use canned dog food, but the cat gets canned cat food sometimes. I got my lids for free from the Pedigree stand at the show, but I believe you can buy them from the supermarket.
