  1. I used to feed adult dogs once a day, but since getting Bianca, have fed twice, but much less than I would feed in one. I think now no matter what dog I had, I would feed twice. Less overload on the stomach and less chance of bloat.
  2. There are no words........ So sorry.
  3. So sorry for your loss ILDD. Run free Memphis and Cujo, together at the Bridge.
  4. Oo, that's an idea. I wonder if Bianca will put up with the noise tho.

    Evie

    So sorry, hugs to you.
  6. My (late) mini foxy (x breed) used to like stealing the cherry tomatoes. Even when we had the square mesh put up to protect them, she would squeeze thru and pinch them. Being blind didn't stop her either.

    Molly

Rest in peace Molly, run free. Hugs to you Ninoid, she was a good friend.
  8. Good to hear he's OK. Years ago, my sister's bully got into a stack of dry food, but he had to have emergency surgery to scoop it all out. It was probably not a premium brand (many years ago now), and it swelled something shocking. Hamlet's OK now, that's great.

  10. Doesn't take Bianca long - a couple of minutes maybe. Not including the time she stands around refusing to take it if I put it in the bowl, only takes it if I hold the bowl for her. Don't know why she does that b/c she eats her dinner (frame is brekky) from the bowl on the ground OK. Plus it might take her longer if she bashes her head on the verandah post on the way outside. When she grabs the frame, she behaves like she's stealing it and whips it away. If her aim is wrong, she bangs her head, or the frame, on the verandah post. I don't know why she does that - I've never treated her like she's stolen anything (all pilfering has been done not in my sight so no punishment). Rain, hail or shine, she likes to take her frame under a particular low tree in the back yard and eat it there. Yet last night she weed on the back verandah (first time to my knowledge) b/c it was raining outside.
  11. Didn't affect my dog at all as long as she was in her own yard/house. Take her out of her environs and she was lost. A friend of my sister has a blind cattle dog (went blind, not born blind) and he's good too, even on his regular walk as long as they go the same way every time.
  12. A lot of greys have teeth problems, maybe b/c of the diet they are fed in the racing kennels. Having said that, any dog can have bad teeth, particularly those who won't eat bones, or whose teeth don't align properly. My mini daccie had really bad teeth. Bianca eats plenty of bones, but only on one side of her mouth, so one side was good, the other horrible. Now we brush!
  13. Rest in peace Scamp, no more pain. Sorry for your and your family's loss Mooper, he looks adorable.
  14. Sorry for your loss. RIP Jack. Sounds like you had a wonderful home.
  15. Sorry guys, only just got on again. Bianca is 7 so I wasn't happy about two anaesthetics in 6 months. Anyway, she's home now and really good. No teeth removed, just cleaned and a course of ABs for inflamed gums. I gave her softer food tonight, but I'll give her her normal frame for brekky, and tomorrow she'll be back to kibble etc. I thought she'd want to take it easy, but no, asked for her walk (even tho I took her this morning to empty out before we went to the vets), and jogged all the way - slowly for her, walking my feet off for me LOL. Pity actually (joking). I'd cooked some rice in the microwave - just bunged some in an icecream container, threw in some water and cooked it on high for 20mins. Best damn rice I've ever cooked, including in the rice cooker. If I'd spread it out on a tray in the fridge to dry, it would be perfect for fried rice.
  16. So sorry for your loss Chewy. 17 years, wow. I lost both my daccies at 17 and whilst I know it was their time to go to the Bridge, it sure didn't make it any easier. Hugs to you and your family. Run free Elliot, rest peacefully.
  17. At this point, I'm not sure. Vet didn't really say - it was pretty obvious something needed to be done. I was actually a bit peeved b/c I thought they were still a bit dodgy after the last clean. Would just a scale and polish make the mouth hurt? If not, could I continue with her same diet if that's all that happens? And if an extraction or more?......
  18. Bianca is going in for another dental tomorrow morning - she only had one in January - and whilst I've got her dinner sorted out, does anyone have any suggestions re what I could give her for brekky? At night, she normally gets hunks of beef and kibble, I'll change that to mince and rice or pasta for a few days. In the morning, she normally gets a chicken frame or wings. Should I just give her a smaller serve of what she gets at night? I would imagine she's going to be too sore for bones, but am trying to think of anything else. Looks like bones are not going to be enough to keep the plaque at bay in her mouth. I try to keep her meat pieces large too, but I think she only eats out of one side of her mouth. One side is pearly white, the other is disgusting.
  19. Interesting thread. Bianca has the same problem. She's on Stilboestrel, and there is definite improvement, but she still leaks occasionally, particularly if she's climbed up on my chair! Going to the vet's on Monday, so I'll ask about it then.
  20. Use kitchen scissors to cut the frame into quarters or halves if you think it's too big. Wings are fattier than frames generally, I think it is the skin - I'm just changing my girl back to frames as she was getting a bit podgy on wings for brekky. Bit of a pest b/c the frames take up more room in the freezer. I was also finding that her stools are a bit soft - she usually goes two or three times on a walk, the first time they were formed, but the second (and third if done) were runny. Hopefully the change will help that too.
  21. I chuck the greyhound into the shower. I'm lucky and have a hand held shower which makes it a BIT easier, but I used to wash the LH GSD in the same shower before the hand held was installed. Had to laugh the other day...Bianca really doesn't like baths, even tho she likes to swim. Once she realised what was coming, she tried to slink away. Once she was in the bathroom tho, she realised the inevitability of it and just walked in the door Sister has just had a hand held shower point & taps installed outside her laundry on the deck (hot and cold water) by a plumber, and washes the rotties on the deck, no more buckets.

    Tyson

RIP Tyson, run free. So sorry to hear of your loss Pandii
  23. Hey Daisy...you should post this in the Greyhound breed thread if you haven't done so already. Probably lots of info there. I haven't had a dog with it, but from what I've heard, treatment is usually an ongoing thing with drops. Frequency of using them declines as the condition improves, but doesn't stop as far as I know. It's a control rather than a cure. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.
  24. RIP Zack...enjoy the Bridge. Hugs to you Tiggy, and your mum too.
