  1. That's actually funny to me b/c I always found the cat more uncomfortable than the dog. They have a habit of curling up in the most awkward places and I get claustrophobic. Much prefer the dog. When our cats were getting sick (one at a time when getting old) I sometimes relented b/c they wanted so much to be there. Both gone to the bridge now.
  2. No OH, dog sleeps on bed. As she's incontinent, I have waterproof blankets btw her and the doona, then an old doona cover on top of the wp blankets to make it a bit softer. Her incontinence has gotten worse lately, so she now wears pants as well. We're trying to treat. Before OH passed away, and we had our daccy girl, she slept under the blankets near our feet. Not sure how she breathed down there actually. She didn't move during cuddle time either.
  3. Beats me. My daccies both lived to 17, which I have been told is quite old. They ate Chum. I feed my current dog raw meat, chicken frames and premium kibble, and my luck she'll kark it before she gets to 12. ETA: The cats both lived to 20 and ate Whiskas.
  4. This seems like a pretty common misconception about the breed! :D My girl spends 90% of her day snoozing, and the rest begging Mum for a cuddle and/or a bikkie. She has a 1/4 acre block to run around in, and never does. I take her for a walk every day that is really no longer than 10 minutes, but she loves it. She reminds me when I "forget". She is so gentle with my rather fragile mother (a person who didn't like the idea of greys, but a couple of days after I got Bianca, said, "Who'd get rid of a nice dog like that?"). I adopted her from GAP, who were well aware of my rather rigid requirements - cat safe, gentle, QUIET (as far as not jumping or rushing around etc so as not to knock Mum over). They found me the perfect dog. I am blessed to have her, and I hope to have her for many more years to come. There will always be a grey in my house. Bianca is considered cat safe, but would chase a strange cat. She grew to recognise that our cats were part of our pack and were to be respected. Some greys would never be cat safe, but the adoption agency wouldn't send you such a dog as long as they know you have cats (they should ask). I second the suggestion of fostering first if you were considering one. A reputable adoption service will try to find you the dog to suit your family/lifestyle, and you can foster with a view to adopt, or give the dog back if you find you aren't suited.
  5. Awwwww. Pugs are getting higher and higher on my wish list.
  6. Bianca is still wearing the one you gave me, thank you. It comes off quite easily (in my hand once when I grabbed it), so I don't think it would catch on anything. It has her tags on it. She is microchipped and wears her GAP collar when we walk. She wasn't microchipped when I got her, but I believe GAP VIC now microchip dogs before they are adopted.
  7. Should be able to get it from the laundry area of the supermarket.
  8. Sorry, another Dyson fan here. I have a barrel one (DC19???) with turbo brush. I'm sure the powerhead would be better still, but the turbo still does a damn good job. I bought mine with my Altitude points, then bought the turbo head separately. I use the normal head for the tiles. I didn't have enough points for the powerhead model. I don't like upright vacs b/c I don't have anywhere to store them. ETA: Picks up the dog hair with no problem, nor was the LH cat hair a problem b4 she went to the bridge.
  9. Orally. You need to give enough that they start getting ready to vomit before you stop. When it happened to Meg, We gave her what I thought was a good amount but nothing happened so I called our vet (being in a small country town has some advantages) and he said to just keep shovelling it in til she vomits. Sure enough up every thing came. You will need to IMMEDIATELY clean up the vomit though as the dog will want to re-eat that chocolate so make sure its on concrete and in a well lit area so you can get rid of all of it! Do you just shove the crystals down? Put them in something?
  10. Plenty of dogs at the Emerald bakery/cafe. Never heard anyone complaining. Nice to see all the different dogs, including Jet, another Gap grey. Some very nice BCs seem to be pretty regular; very well behaved.
  11. Not only placement, but a colour statement as well. Truly a trendsetter.
  12. How should the lectric soda be administered? Dosage? Thanks.
  13. Mum feeds Bianca at around 4pm, so I'm not home from work then. On the days I'm home, she stands and stares at you, occasionally shoving her nose under your hand. She'll also start "acting funny" by throwing her toys around, then turning to look at you for a reaction. She's a lot more gentle with Mum (not that she isn't gentle all the time), but she must know that Mum is very frail and she's not to be silly or jumpy around her, so I don't know what she does to Mum at dinnertime. Mum can forget things occasionally, but I've noticed she never forgets to feed the dog. I have been known to forget to defrost the chicken frame for brekky, which means you might see me at 6.30am nearly naked, with my eyes closed trying to work the defrost function on the microwave.
  14. Sorry, computer is playing up tonight.
  15. Friend spent over 10 grand on her dog, and only got a further year and a bit before PTS, which she knew was probably inevitable. Would she do it again? Probably not, but not b/c of the money, but for the dog's quality of life, which, in hindsight, probably wasn't as good as it was. It was OK, but not the same (amputation on a heavy dog).
  16. Well, I've just emailed them.
  17. Sore boob b/c Bianca stands on it when she gets up off the bed. Aside from that, nothing. Mum did get badly bitten by my (late) daccy, trying to split up a fight btw said daccy and her fox terrier.
  18. Mum and I went today, and had a very good time. She was in her wheelchair, which made it harder, but still OK. At least they had a lift (once I found it). Mum managed to get a cat cuddle too, which was nice as I think she misses her cat since she went to the Bridge.
  19. I can't see the hair on the carpet, but the Dyson is full every time I vacuum (from 1 greyhound, no cats - go figure). The only time I notice it is when I wash the dog's bedpad (for incontinence) and it comes out hairier than it went in. I haven't figured out that one yet and, as I'm not the one who has to lie on it, I don't care.
  20. who me glad to hear that "things" are looking better Yes you. Go and have a look. ETA: My post: Your post (supposedly copied from mine):
