  1. I wondered too. I understand old dogs, dogs with no teeth etc, but others? Is human grade mince that much cheaper than meat chunks? Cheaper mince is pretty fatty - I couldn't feed Bianca that - she'd look like a house. I see that the people here who feed mince use it as part of a balance though.
  2. So if they move too far, do they redo it?
  3. Sister's dally Woody does the same thing - climbs the stairs to their room to tell them his blankie has slipped off, so sister has to go all the way downstairs to fix him up again. The boxer wouldn't care - maybe b/c she's fat enough to be well insulated.
  4. I'm not really the right person to reply to this b/c I don't know a lot about it, but to my knowledge, racing greys don't have prefixes. Also, not all racing bred greys are given a racing name. Bianca's name was Brodie Malone, but she never raced. Her owner called her Bianca and I kept it b/c I don't believe in changing an adult dog's name (there are different opinions on that tho). When we got our daccie puppy (many many years ago) we had the opportunity to name her ourselves so OH called her Chapparelle, after the mountains in the USA. So her pedigree name was Liebenstern Chapparelle, and we called her Chappa for short (pronounced Shappa). ETA: Of course, racing grey naming is a completely different thing, with different registering bodies. Show greys have prefixes and are named like other pedigreed dogs. Actually, here's a question for the show grey people - can you register your grey with both bodies, and do they have the same name?
  5. And God said to Adam, "The gift I am sending you is a reflection of the love I have for you. Therefore his name is a reflection of my name, and he is Dog." And Dog loved Adam and licked Adam's hand. God was pleased and Adam was comforted. Dog was happy and wagged his tail.
  6. It's also a stone's throw from Bairnsdale, so there's access to vet.
  7. Bianca has a bed, but usually prefers the carpet.
  8. Bianca took quite a long time really. Ours has a heavy flex plastic flap, and she refused to use it. In the end, I taped it up, and taped on a tea towel. That was ok after awhile, so we graduated to a much thinner clear plastic. That took a few days, but the jump to the heavy plastic took quite a while. She got there in the end, but she still tiptoes thru it like it's going to bite her. Unlike son's dog who, when she's visiting, goes thru the door in mid air. BANG! EFS.
  9. If you can be bothered going to Dandenong Plaza, there's a butcher there (right near the post office) near Coles that sells chicken frames in bags. The bags are 3 for $1 usually, and there's aprox 3 frames per bag. I THINK Robbo's on the Princes Hwy in Doveton sells Eagle Pack; not sure of the prices.
  10. My dog is OK, but my son's dog just guts the bedding. Doesn't even pull it out the door, just gets her teeth into it and rips out the middle.
  11. Whilst I haven't posted a lot in your threads, you have often been in my thoughts . Welcome back; it's good to see you online again. Hope things continue to look up for you.
  12. I paid for my three, but I forgot to leave my DOL name so I emailed it with the order number to Pacers. ETA: Actually, I can't even remember why I bought 3...hmm...one for me, one for son, one for..????? Must have been sister Early Xmas presents.
  13. AnnieK, I was just thinking of your dogs when I read the bit about long walks. Bianca doesn't want to walk that long with me (which suits me), but how did she go when she stayed with you?
  14. My sister just came back from Tassie on the boat with her two rotties and her parrot. The rotties went into the kennels, and the parrot stayed in his cage in the car. All fine, no problems.
  15. OT, but I also hate it when Bianca drops her half chewed fish oil capsule. I have to make sure I wipe it all up b/c otherwise mum is sure to go A over T.
  16. Earl... what a great name for a bloodhound. Still laughing. Bianca drools sometimes - mainly if I'm eating something she wants. It's very liquid too - erk. ETA: Is the next one going to be called "Edgar"? Sorry - OT
  17. Beautiful, beautiful dogs. Bianca is so calm and gentle with my elderly and very frail mother. She likes her walkies every day, but we only go around the block and she's happy with that. She's now 8 so zoomies are more rare now, and she spends a lot of time asleep. Funny tho - she's always awake before 4pm (dinnertime). She can curl up into the tightest balls, but when she's asleep on my bed, she takes up more room than I do. Everyone who meets her says how beautiful she is - her eyes have so much expression in them, and she's quite a princess. She's so very gentle meeting people, particularly children. My mum adores her, and she was very hesitant about having a large dog in the house.
  18. Bianca is a hardened hanky killer. She doesn't do it all the time, but if she's left alone and she gets the sh%ts, she'll rip one into such tiny pieces they get really hard to pick up. She loves to play with her soft toys, but she usually doesn't destroy them. However, if they have something hard in them (like the noisemaker of the screaming monkeys), she gets a funny look in her eyes and really bites down hard and breaks them. It's really creepy to watch.
  19. Bianca walks next to me on a relatively loose lead, but she likes to sneak up a bit to the end of her lead. She doesn't pull, but just goes to the end and stays there. I don't like it - I prefer she stay next to me, but she isn't a pest about it. I'll normally make her come back. When I have to walk son's dog, I have both of them on the left. She's a bit of a puller (although MUCH better than when we got her), so I tend to have a bit of a handful. I don't like a dog on each side - I get a bit squashed in the middle!
  20. Up the price of rego....to what? Let's say $1000 a year for an undesexed dog, unless the dog and owner are registered with the appropriate club??? How much is enough? ETA: just saw the post above re overpriced = not registered. Then what?
  21. Mum's late GSD did it, but he used to start before the siren. I don't know if it was because he could hear it start up before it came into our hearing.
  22. We were just so glad to get him back. It was a long time ago, and probably the result of Mum being the only adult trying to get a passle of kids and their junk into a small car and get the hell home.
