  1. Two weeks in jail does awful things ....???? Funny, I would have thought HANGING would have done worse things.... Geez our justice system sucks big time.
  2. So sad... RIP Wags. I'd like to get my hands on some of these people.
  3. I like Rose. It's such a pretty name.
  4. You just need to be careful that the service you are buying with either GE (which I have, and know about) and GE Care (which I don't) has an interest free period that you are comfortable paying off within. With GE, the monthly fee during the IF period is $3.95. You can make extra payments with no penalty, and there's no penalty for paying out early. The only other thing is that GE are in the habit of cancelling your account if you don't use it for awhile. If you can't pay it off within the IF period, you might be better off with a low interest rate credit card. I used to work for Hardly Normal and bought a few things with my card. I've just finished paying off my last purchase - a bed mattress - early (as usual). I've bought other big ticket items (Canon EOS camera, a bed for son, my laptop etc) and haven't had any trouble. However I would NEVER get a cash advance on it, and NEVER buy anything that I can't handle paying off promptly. GE make their money out of the nuffs who spend up big on TVs etc, then can't pay back in time. I saw them all the time. My job was processing the applications and add ons, and often had to explain how to know how much was going to be owed per month, particularly when people had multiple purchases on multiple deals on their cards. I've even advised people not to use it. (shhh). ETA: With GE Care, do you know in advance what IF period you have? Is it IF for the whole transaction? If you don't know in advance, a credit card is better for emergencies.
  5. Too active for Bianca. This is more her kind of day. An oldy but a goodie, and very typical.
  6. I have to say Bianca isn't a "playful" dog. When she plays, especially with young or small animals, she plays like a mother dog would - she lies down on her side and just uses her front paws gently. It's very sweet to watch. I remember when the rottie India was young; Bianca would play with her, India would pounce on Bianca's paws, and Bianca would pull them out and "pat" India with her feet. Now the rotties are both big, she's not interested in playing with them. She doesn't play with the cats at all. I don't know if somewhere, sometime, a cat has shown her who's boss, or whether it's because she knows I don't approve. Back to the topic - I actually wonder whether it would make any difference what toy it was. They don't smell or sound the same as the cats, so I wonder if Pia would make the connection.
  7. I don't have any trouble with Bianca, but dogs are not all the same I suppose. Bianca has stuffed toys - she particularly likes the grunty ones. When the new kittens came, she didn't even show much interest. I had her on a lead and muzzled, but only for a very short time b/c I could see her avoiding them. She wouldn't even look at them if they came close; deliberately turning her head away. She'd chase strange cats given the chance (which she doesn't get), but the kittens were "strange" when they came and not even a hint out of Bianca. Maybe b/c we were all inside?
  8. You're right, it isn't a biggy. But if you're curious - next time you're there, ask the nurse/receptionist at the desk. They may know without having to bother the vet with it.
  9. Sorry if I don't feel any pity for the guy. How horrific.
  10. Sorry for your loss Cass. Donkey sounds like a real character. Have fun at the Bridge Donkey.
  11. So sorry Gayle. Very hard when you and OH don't agree - just makes it that much more awful. To me (who isn't there, so only an opinion) it sounds like it's time. Better too early than too late. Thinking of you.
  12. Bianca goes into the shower, but the stall is a bit small, so she has to bend in the middle to fit in. We have a hand held shower which makes it easy. I don't go in there with her, but I strip down to the undies and we both get pretty wet. I'm still hoping someone will remember that I'd like a setup like my sister's for a present. She has hot/cold water tap outside with a hose and hand held showerhead attached. She washes the rotties on the deck so the water falls thru. I'd put Bianca on a ramp to save my back, but basically the same. So easy.
  13. My sister lives on 10 acres out at Menzies Creek, which is just a hop skip and jump from Emerald. It's lovely there, but I worry about fire season. It's not the sort of place you can escape from if you make the decision to leave too late. Aside from that, they've had no problems. Her partner regularly walks their rotties around the block (which is a distance of 5km). She also has a cat and two horses. The bakery in Emerald welcomes dogs to their outside eating area - there's one crusty old guy there with a ridgy who goes inside the bakery and gets "his" piece of cardboard for the dog to lay on. He says he himself doesn't sit on the ground, so why should the dog? A few too many lycra clad pests on the road, and they tend to congregate at the bakery too, damn them! 50 points...... (kidding)
  14. Bianca was speyed at 41/2 when she went into GAP. She started having incontinence problems when she was 7-8, and the severity would vary. She had a couple of UTIs, which didn't help. She was put onto Stilboestrel, which helps a lot. She has improved a lot, and now only has medication when the problem comes back (so maybe every month or so). However, there is a waterproof backed blanket on my bed (on which she sleeps) and her day bed as she occasionally drips a bit. She also tends to have a wet vulva after she's been outside, so the waterproof blankies help with that if I'm not around to wipe her bottie for her. I buy them on eBay, and they're easy to throw in the washing machine.
  15. I've never had any trouble with the nurses/receptionists at "my" clinic - they're all great. Love to come into the waiting room for a cuddle, and always very helpful. One forgot to charge me for both cats' vaccinations once (I thought it was cheap!). The head nurse rang me and was very apologetic about it once we sorted out what had happened - didn't worry me; I don't mind paying for what's fair.
  16. Greytdog Can you please tell me if there is a preferred deck to load the car on if your dogs are inside? I need to go to Tas soon and will leave 1 or 2 dogs in the car. Thankyou Deck 5 is preferred as it is the last on, first off. Therefore, don't arrive too early or you'll be waiting a long time. ETA: Beat me!
  17. Bianca travelled fine in the ship's cages. She had a big cage and her bedding and was fine. She's a greyhound so needed a big cage anyway. Had a toilet stop on either side of Bass Strait and no accidents in the cage. Sister, who travels frequently as she has a holiday house in Tassie, leaves her two rotties in the car (they have a Hilux with a canopy). Special paperwork to fill out if you don't use the cages. She also takes the parrot, and leaves him in the car too (not with the rotties obviously - although they're terrified of the parrot, who is at the top of the pack). You have to worm your dogs within two weeks of sailing, and have to have either a receipt and the worming box, or a certificate from the vet to say it was done. The pills have to have a certain ingredient in them, which I believe most hydatid worming preparations have. ETA: Don't arrive too early as you'll have to wait to be loaded onto the right deck. We've always been on level 5 which is the last to load.
  18. Walking my greyhound down the street, on lead with no muzzle, I overheard some young people (older teens) commenting to each other about my dog. "What is it?" "Oh, one of those racing dogs, they're really vicious." As they walk their pitbull type dog - I would have thought they would have been sick of breed assumptions. I called them over and we had a little talk. Their dog was a sweetie.
  19. Hey Steve (Julie), I can't remember if I paid for mine or not. Geez, that was awhile ago. I think I ordered 3??? I have a feeling I did b/c I seem to remember paying too much and telling you to keep it for a donation (or was that for something else?). Gawd, it's hell getting old (44). ETA: Never mind; found the email - yes I did. Looking forward to getting mine, plus that means I've started my Christmas shopping!
  20. Yay for tubby whippets! C'mon Yogi, get well soon; you mum is worried about you. Hugs to you Robbi; hope he recovers quickly.
  21. Sister just has a showerhead on a hose (trigger) plumbed into the outside of her laundry. The hot and cold taps are on the outside wall, and the water just runs away thru the deck and onto the lawn. Much easier than a hydrobath, and the water is always clean. She washes her rotties that way, and it's really good for guest dogs that have a swim in their dam. They can be easily washed before they go home.
  22. Bianca would be safe with my sister. I know that nothing would happen to her. Mum would keep her, but mum is too frail to care for her properly. Mum would be devastated to lose her tho. As a GAP dog, I would have the option of her going back to GAP; she wouldn't end up in the pound at any rate. However she's now 8 so she's getting a bit long in the tooth for a new family, so I'd keep her with us if at all possible (which would be probable). I sometimes worry what would happen if something happened to my sister. Her dogs and parrot would come to me, but her dogs aren't as easy to manage as Bianca (only b/c of their exuberance), so I would be in for a rough time, even without the thought of losing my best friend. Plus it would be dangerous for Mum as she would get knocked over.
