  1. I sent samples to ASAP to test for PLL in Tenterfield Terriers, waited over 4 months for the results. They were swabbed at 3 weeks of age and I wanted results before they were 8 weeks.. I wouldn't bother using them again, it would be quicker to send samples to UK!
  2. I spoke with someone last week who used one. The dog regularly got horrible infected sores on his neck from the collar (he is a large heavily coated dog) then when he went hear the boundary he got electric shocks which is how the 'fence' works. The dog ended up getting quite nasty and aggressive... so would I if I was getting electric shocks in my infected pussy neck! I think the good old fashioned way of building a fenced yard is much better.
  3. My Tenterfield litter arrived early, on 30th January. I have 2 girls and 1 boy, oh so cute ;) Chicky sounded like a tennis player with all the grunting and squealing, poor love. Now she has taken to motherhood lke a pro
  4. I went to Bunnings this morning and got 2 of their 'compost cages' and now have a lovely puppy area all set up for my Tenty girl who is due next week. Only cost me $50 Thanks SWAY you come up with some great cost saving ideas ! Now to find that car boot liner......
  5. I sent an adult bitch to Italy, she had to be done 30 days before leaving Australia.
  6. I went to Melbourne specially, but the KMart I went to didn't have any But I spent heaps buying new clothes for me ;) I'll keep an eye out next time I'm in Melbourne though, sounds like it would be ideal.
  7. The usual mating day for most of my girls (large breed) is day 17 - 19. Recently had one mated on day 21. Trust your dogs, they know more than we do Good luck ;)
  8. Just paid $955 for elective during business hours. Ultrasound at 28 days, $45 for one vet, $75 for the one closer to home.
  9. Think I might head to KMart tomorrow and have a look it sounds good
  10. That would be funny to see, person seen in car section sniffing the car mat But I get what you mean
  11. Good luck with your breeding, will be interesting to see how you end up. New technology is amazing! I have friends in USA who often do dual sire matings, they run working sled dog teams and thus only have to take their bitches out of the team less often. Please keep us posted ;)
  12. I have my first litter of Tenterfield Terriers due 2nd Feb. Been breeding Malamutes for 25 years so this will be a big change for me! Can't wait.... Oh how much easier this is gonna be ;)
  13. If you find they are swallowing the chicken necks whole, I would try carcasses. That way they have to chew them. Maybe half a chicken carcass. Cheers
  14. One of my girls is very fussy after whelping. I find the best thing for her is scrambled egg with roast chicken added. My favourite too so we get to share :D If all else fails, I tip the food out in the whelping box, and the bitch will usually clean it up, sneaky but it works. Mine seem to get their appetite back after a few days. I also make milk shakes with Divetelact, yoghurt, egg and cottage cheese. Good luck with the babies Rhonda
  15. Yes, he is feeding really well and is very contended. Olivia is doing a great job for a first time mum, cleaning him and doing all the right things. Rhonda
  16. Yes Parkeyre, I've noticed that with her. Right now she is asleep in a crate with the door open across the room from him. During the night I popped him back in his crate on a hot water bottle as she wouldn't settle, and then she settled well, she seems to be scared to go to sleep with him suckling, maybe she is frightened she will squash him! I guess as her confidence levels increase she'll be more settled. I just plugged in the DAP difuser, that may help to settle her. Rhonda
  17. Well all is good now Olivia came into my room at 4am with a very different look on her face, and wagged her tail at Barry, (his nickname). I sat with her and put Barry on her nipple, and she started licking him and has decided being a mum is ok after all :D:) Poor Olivia, it must be so strange to go to sleep and wake up and your world has changed ! Thanks for the advice and support
  18. Thanks everyone. The warm water worked a treat and I got lots of poo all over me, so that's good :D I just put him on Olivia again and she seemed more relaxed this time, and fell asleep while he nursed. Hopefully she'll be ok in a day or so, but I'll just take it slowly. Glad I took 2 weeks off to stay home with her. Puppy is now alseep in a crate on the kitchen bench, and twitching away merrily. Rhonda
  19. Thanks Missymoo and Fifi, I've been doing what you suggested and will keep going, yes I have formula and baby oil and cotton balls for the other end. Thanks again Rhonda
  20. Ijust arrived home from the vet with my bitch and singleton puppy after a c-section. Any suggestions in introducing pup to mum? He has suckled at the vets, but she growled just now when I let her sniff him. Should I wait a while? Any siggestions greatly appreciated.
  21. This sounds like exactly what I do. I interfere only if required, like you I move puppies out of the way when the next one is coming along, so they don't get stepped on or get wet all over again. I'll pop them in a clothes basket, then when the newest puppy is clean they all go back to mum again. She eats all the placentas, ( and i have had some pretty big litters over the years, one was 15!) and I have never had any problems My puppies are with their mum 24/7 until the day they leave us. It's nature, and it's amazing. Rhonda
  22. Thanks for your reply Sandgrubber My vet told me not to test again unless she starts dripping blood, as she thinks she has gone out of season, but I am inclined to want to test again after a few days just to see what is going on. Yep, Bitches!!
  23. When my girls get fussy, usually just after whelping, I cook up an omelette, with a bit of chicken meat and whatever else i have that sounds yummy. Rhonda
