Yes I did Chezzyr and it has helped me to understand how the lens works. I only did it with one lens though.
-
I wanted to get as close as I could, plus it's not that it cant focus, the grass is focussed, that's what I dont understand. some pics worked out though heres one taken only seconds after the first and I think it's OK, well near enough for my fuzzy eyes.

Yes and yes Chezzyr
-
Yes, just as it was in the camera, no sharpening or colour adjustment.

I dont see what I could've done wrong this time. I went to photograph the raptors at the sanctuary yesterday. I was seated and comfortable, had the camera steady. I had the centre point focus only. When I got them onto my computer some were focused and some weren't. Heres an example of one of the failures. You can see it is clearly out of focus on the bird but the grass in the foreground is in focus. I checked the shooting info and it shows I had the focus point on the bird, just above its wing, where that little straight line is in the feathers, so why oh why has it focused on the grass. for your info TV 1/800 AV 5.6 ISO 200 focal length 300mm

Oooh I hope you dont mean me. I am practicing and learning. Honest!!

I wish I could help you but I am way out of my depth even understanding what you're talking about. Is there a Nikon users forum like Canon has? I reckon somewhere like that would be the place to ask good luck Just re reading, I think you should hang on to the lens you already know and love. How often do you hear about someone selling their old beloved lens and then regretting it. can you borrow the other one to try it out?

As of Wednesday it's still there. I asked if they're negotiable on the price and he said no but they'd probably look after the buyer with a memory stick or something. If I didn't already have mine I'd buy it.

brilliant photos. Life close up.
-
No that is just the camera and the two lenses that comprise the kit, it does not include the 1.4 lens I bought today. that is separate. I've had my Canon for about 8 months I think. All the photos I have posted before today were taken with one or other of the kit lenses.
-
I only bought the lens today. If you are in the market for a new camera there's the same model as I have, the Canon 400D with the kit lenses for $949. Although the 400d has been superseded by the 450d this is still a good price I think. It was at JB hi fi at Eastland Vic. Only one left. the box was slightly torn but that wont affect the camera. If you want to chase it up JB's ph number is 9870 3488.

too cloudy here

Far out! I never thought anyone would say they want to take photos like me!! You've made my day thanks! I am sure Nikon have a similar lens. I think Vicki is a Nikon girl.
-
the Puckster. I am seriously in lurrrve with this lens!
-
Yep a bit of a hike.
-
Where abouts are you? You've got the same as me haven't you, the 400d? Maybe we should get together and "click"
-
are you allowed to show us your photos Rubiton or is there copyright restrictions cause it's work?
-
If someone from here buys it let me know.
-
Yes I am pretty happy, cant you tell
-
Yes.

and here's a happy accident from today, I had it set all wrong so mucked about with it to darken and colour saturate and it brought out the eyes. I know this is an obvious mistake but I like it.
-
Yep, once I decide I want something I want it NOW!! He said I got the last one at the old price, they are now going up about $100 but the 1.8 is still good value, I just decided to use that money I mentioned otherwise I dont think I could've got it. the pics look much clearer on my computer. When flickr lets me back in I will upload them there and you will see the difference. I am so excited

In my travels today I called into JB hi fi at eastland. Out of curiosity I asked how much their last 400d with the twin lens kit was. Silver body $949. It is the same as I have and I paid a smidge under $1100 I think about 8 months ago. I think it seems pretty cheap if anyone is looking. It's their last one and the external box has a tear but the camera is new. If anyone is interested ring 9870 3488 and speak to George.

OK, I went, I bought, I photographed. Meet the new love of my life. THE 50MM 1.4!!!!!!! as soon as I got in the car I put it on and took these of Kibah and no I am not loaded but about 4 years ago a really good friend gave me a couple of hundred $$ to put towards something "arty". I'd kept the money aside for all these years as I didn't want to just spend it on everyday items so I decided to use it to go towards this lens. I figured I would probably use it alot from what I'd read everyone had said about it so decided to buy the one that will hopefully last longer. I called around to her place on my way home to tell her I'd spent her money and I took this pic of her flowers and another in her garden and when I got home one of Feather with a dead duck, but she is listening to a big fat blow fly that was behind her. It's dead now, Puck ate it 1st two of Kibah are from flickr, the rest are photobucket so aren't as clear. I just have to practice now.

I think I've made my decision. You shall have to wait until I've been, bought and photographed. watch this space. Oh and I just found this written by Ashanali a couple of days ago for others thinking about these lenses. the price difference between the 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 is due to many factors (if you are talking about Canon). The 1.2 is an L series lens. These are top of the line, with high quality glass 1.4 is also high quality but a step down from the 1.2 and doesn't have that lovely 'L' tag attached. (whilst I would love a 1.2 the actual difference in output is negligible between the two. I bought the 1.4 ) the 1.8 is very lightweight and cheaply made. Lots of plastic. A great lens for those shooting on a budget.
