Thanks for the updates and photos. Poor little Chi Chi's burned ears. It's good to hear that Jed has come through the surgery ok. I also think she is an amazingly brave woman.

Max was just over 15 when he died. Toby almost made it that far. There is a pug on Dogster that is 19!

Our first pug, Toby had that. He didn't show any symptoms, I only knew there was a problem when I found some bloody droppings on the lawn. He wasn't as bad as your girl, the vet sent him home with antibiotics and he was fine in a couple of days. Hope Tia is better tomorrow, I know how worried you must be.

Max hates getting his done too. He used to let you do it without too much of a struggle, but turned his head away as if he couldn't bear to watch. He has athritis now and his feet are painful to touch so we wait until he is asleep on the couch beside us. I keep the nail clippers within reach, we actually did three one night before he woke up.

With wide aperture lenses, you get less depth of field, and that's the whole point of them really. Set the lens to 1.8, focus on your dog and the background is out of focus. Like rugerfly's portrait. Up close, you may find that not all of the dog is sharp, the nose is in focus and the eyes aren't. You have to focus selectively. (Having a pug, I don't have that problem.) 1.4 is better at it and 1.2 is better still. (Though it costs a fortune and weighs a ton.) The 1.4 is on my list, when I have recovered from the D300.

About a year ago my elderly pug started drinking a lot. The vet said his urine was dangerously diluted. I googled this as well and started worrying, he had a lot of tests but in the end it turned out to be an infection and antibiotics fixed it in a few days. I had to measure what he drank and I still do sometimes if I think he is drinking too much. If you have more than one dog, measuring may be difficult. I hope Bobbie will be ok.
