Glad you liked it - he is an inspiring little guy We should get your photos and my text together - make a book - sell millions and retire
-
Hope you don't mind - but I took the liberty of penning a little tale based on these photos I call it "00Ralph - The Spy who licked me" Ralph rolled out of bed…. ….(Note to self, fire maid, no mint on pillow again last night) Took a quick soak (Note to self, find new shampoo, not enough bubbles with this one) …………ate his breakfast (Note to self, fire chef, these croissants are far too chewy) …and artfully concealed himself in an inconspicuous spot to continue his surveillance on the Pink Poodle dancing Troupe (*Sigh* this work is so demanding ……)

Rip Darling Elliot. Finally, You Can Play With Squiddy Again.
MsKatie replied to ~Shepherd~'s topic in Rainbow Bridge
i agree Sending thoughts and all our sympathy to you and yours - knowing you will do what is best for your beautiful man -
First of all let me say I sympathise totally with your dillemma - having gone through it twice and having to make that hard decision - you really can never be 100% sure unless they are in extreme pain or suffering. You know your dog - you see his quality of life and - in the end - it is both the greatest gift you can give and the hardest choice you will ever have to make. Each day I get up to my old arthritic kelpie x i judge the quality of life she has and i dread the day i have to make that call - but in the end - only you can decide - they can only guide you by their actions. Your vet should respect your decision. Whatever you decide - you obviously love your dog very much and will do the best for him

They belonged to my daughter - who is 7 - so any kids socks would be Ok I suppose they seemed to be about the same size as her feet up to the elbow (if that makes sense) Here's another pic and that was masking tape we used to tape them on
-
Rosie had one of these when we got her desexed - but - being the skinny flexible kelpie she is she could almost reach to scratch her stitches with her back paws so - here is what we had to do to her didn't bother her - as you can see from the smile on her face We taped the socks on her back feet

Posted this originally in General - was suggested I try in here Hi - just wondering if anyone here could recommend a trainer in South Australia that could help a family with a food agressive Tibetan Mastiff (Male). They have 3 kids and another Tibetan Mastiff (Female) so have their hands full. Any advice would be welcome Cheers

To Everyone Who Has Lost Pets And Livestock
MsKatie replied to GreatBigPuppy's topic in Rainbow Bridge
thoughts. wishes and tears - Rainbow Bridge has been a busy place - I know they were all welcomed with open arms (and paws and hooves) by those who went before. RIP - run free -
My brothers beautiful boxer bitch - Peaches - got her wings today. After a stroke a few weeks ago she developed a tumour and heart troubles and was given her wings. She was the dog that helped my brother get over losing his heart dog - Spike - and was much loved by all. I know she is now romping with those who went before and has found my Dad to give her lots of love and pats So run free gorgeous girl - we miss you - wait for us
-
Thank you - just beautiful RUn free Clapton and Jess - togther again at the Bridge
-
Ravyk - you loved them while they were here - that is the most important thing. What a beautiful tribute - you obviously loved them very much - and they would have known that - don't blame yourself - although we all do it - what's the quote - don't be sad because I am gone, be happy because we were together - or something along those lines. to you
-
That is so beautiful - tears here too
-
Thinking of you and sending you hugs You were there and she knew you were there - and you gave her her wings. It is not your fault - you trusted these people - you were not to know. Run free Millie - ask for Clapton when you get there
-
Thinking of you and sending hugs Run free Cam You have your wings now
-
For Clapton My boy You came to us a little black dog With a big smile You came to us From an unknown home And found your way Into our hearts You gave yourself The role Of protector Defender of the family And you loved us unconditionally You gave us so many years Of so much joy And you were always my boy And then the children came along And you protected them too Always with that big smile And that unconditional love And then …one day..you were old Your eyes no longer sparkled Your legs no longer ran And you no longer smiled And I told you “When you are ready to go, tell us” And you did You were old and tired And your smile was gone And I knew You were telling me it was time Time to let you go To give you your wings I cried as I held you And I cry as I write this But I know You are smiling that big smile again And you are free to run and play Watch over us Wait for me Until we meet again I love you I miss you KB 5/12/2008

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and sympathy - last night was a hard time but imagining him at Rainbow Bridge with all who have gone before makes it a bit easier to bear.

I had to make the hardest decision today - after seeing our old staffy having lots of trouble walking I took him to the vet - half of me was expecting the worst but there was still hope... to cut along story short- he couldn't even get up from lying on the floor and - after discussion with the vet - who was wonderful - I had to make the decision to let him go - rather than watch him suffer. so - he is running free now - across the rainbow bridge - and there are many old friends there to greet him. We will miss you old boy - we had many great years together Goodbye old man
-
Maybe have your 3.5 year old feed the pup with you - you make the pup sit and wait before the child put the food down. ETA - there is post about a 7 month lab still biting - you might want to read through that one too
-
How old are your kids? They need training with this new dog too - they need to say "NO" and assert themselves. My 2 kids are 7 and 9 and never needed to do this with our other dogs as they are old and were trained before the kids came into the picture BUt they have now needed to learn with the puppy (kelpie 4.5 months now) that when she nips them they push her away and say NO and then ignore her. All 3 of them - kids and puppy - are learning together. Hope this helps

The dog obedience club I went to today suggested check chains or 'gentle leaders' - haltis but also looked at martingale I was using and - after their surprise at seeing one - said that they were also ok. I have used check chains but that was with adult dogs - I like the martingale on a puppy but that is personal preference. ETA - you can get martingale that include a chain loop rather than a fabric as the part that tightens - if you can understand what I mean - that might give the same sound as a check chain and work in the same manner - I think this is the one Huski is talking about - the one I have is all fabric.

it's never easy - particularly one so young - run free little one

Hi - any ideas on herding in South Australia - does the dog have to be registered somewhere? I am intersted in it for my kelpie but she is a pet shop dog (I know - I know - but it is done now and I am trying to do the best I can - she seems like a great little dog ) Any advice welcome
