  1. Earl rubs his chin on things (and people) - it obviously gets itchy and sometimes - rather than scratch it - he will rub it on the arm of the chair - or the corner of the computer table - or my knee - and he is pretty strong too - and bony *L*
  2. Good idea Jules - the more the merrier :D Thought I'd post everyehere and pick everyones brains
  3. Looked it up thanks poodlefan - getting some good stuff together :D Thought I might get them to do the selectapet quiz and then research the dog that it comes up with for them
  4. Hi all - have also posted in Breeders and Rescue Quick bit of info - I am teaching my class about pets this term - focussing on responsible pet ownership - this was inspired by one of the students brining in a litter of puppies that were the result of an undesexed bitch and a stray dog *sigh* But anyway - I thought I would throw it out to the good people of DOL for any ideas :D I am looking at getting some people in to talk to the class about resuce and breeding and pet care etc - maybe vet clinics - will ring AWL and the RSPCA and there is also the GoodDogSA program but anything that anyone would like to suggest would be greatly appreciated. This all fits in with the Society and Environment area of teaching and I am hoping to link in with some other subject areas including Information Technology and the Arts. If it looks too big for one term I will continue it in Term 4 Thanks all ;) My email is [email protected] Cheers
  5. Bummer about the distance :D Sure the kids would have loved it
  6. Hi all Have also posted in Rescue bit thought here might be good too I am cyrrently working with my year 5 class on the topic of "Pets" - really hoping ot give them some perspective on responsible pet ownership - and wondered if there were any breeders that would be able to point me in the direction of useful websites or information - or even that would be willing to come and talk to the kids - to help to give as broad a perspective as possible. I figure that if I can help these kids think about responsibel pet ownership then this may help in the future Thanks all
  7. Fantastic news - so happy for Ching
  8. Earl - 50 kg - 9 month old Bloodhound - wouldn't go near Tokkies son while he was sitting on the play equipment at the last DOL meet - not even when I went over there to reassure him that the nasty swings wouldn't hurt him - he stayed about 2 metres away and was really skittish - however - same person - in the area we all were in - he was very determined to go over and sniff and make friends with him
  9. Well - hopefully all of those BYBs who think that having a litter from their pets is a good idea now just don't - wish they had shown the cost of the operation etc.
  10. We named our pedigree dog - in consultation with his breeder - so his pedigree name is My name is Earl and his call name is Earl - but my brother had a boxer that was Duncansby Dark Duke and his call name was Spike - so no link there. Call names are personal preference as far as I know
  11. Big hugs to Penny - and to you - good luck with the vet
  12. Ours are on Coprice Working Dog - along with a raw diet as part of their daily feeding - they both seem to be doing really well on this - we got onto Coprice after buying our bloodhound as this was what the breeder was using - both the 9 month old bloodhound and the 2 year old kelpie seem to do well on it - I have heard good things about the UA / GB but PEtstock have the Coprice so it is more convenient
  13. Rosie also waits until you flip out the footrest of the recliner and sits under it - luckily the kids will now tell us if she is there - since I closed it on her once *sigh*
  14. Mine are outside in the yard when we aren't at home and crated at night in our bedroom when we go to bed - the rest of the time they have access to the lounge, hall and kitchen with the door open for them to go in and out to the yard as they please - they seem quite content and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them with access to the the house - there is far too much they could destroy
  15. Inspired by the fast that I have a kelpie at my feet as I type and a bloodhound lying by the couch (about 3 feet away) baying at her in a very lacklustre fashion - kind of sounds like a cross between a bay and a howl. He appears to be falling asleep but occasionally will slip out another one just as you think he has stopped. He is flat out on his side as he does it.
  16. So glad to get home and read the update - what a scare for you - so glad he is back at home where he belongs - hugs to you both (and one for Zephyr too so he doesn't feel left out)
  17. Hoping for good news for you today cassie
  18. Damn - my heart sank when reading this title - sending BIG healing vibes to Hudson and big drooly hugs to you Hope the big boofer is OK - this is one of my biggent paranoid fears since getting a giant breed - your ex OH did very well ETA - if you need anything you have my number
  19. WHat beautiful dogs - and so many fluffies :D Bear is just lovely
  20. Local nocturnal wildlife? We have a possum that stirs up our kelpie at night
  21. Sorry it's so small - - but it comes up OK when you click on it I knew I should have put the dogs out when I watched New Moon ANy other Twilight doggies?
  22. Earls favourite spot is in my chair - if I happen to want to sit in my chair he will - with great reluctance - sit in the other chair (Exactly the same )
  23. I need a tap on the bloodhound to control the drooling - a kelpie version of Valium - a larger block with lots of room for more dogs - which means I then need a greyhound and a lappie - I also need more hours in my day and a money tree (somewhere the dogs can't get to it ) ETA - and thanks to Ashnali - I now need the little pup from the second photo in her post
  24. That episode of Bondi Vet is on Thursday I think - in Glees spot now that it is finished
  25. ooops - neither did I - hopefully it is all sorted out
