Jess (Run free big girl) Came to me to show me that while owning a dog carries lots of responsibilities it also carries so many rewards with it - and that sometimes you just have to be strong and think of others Clapton (Run free crabby old man) - taught me the joys of dog training and the hardships of owning a DA dog - he taught me that you need to be strong AND loving Bonnie (Run free big dog) Came to show me the true meaning of unconditional love and the joy of rescuing a dog and giving it a better life Rosie - came to show me the joys of puppy hood and I know she is going to help me relearn the joys of training a dog - she also led me to DOL and has given me a whole new perspective on dogs and myself as an owner Earl - came to me to challenge me - in many ways - from buying a dog from a breeder - to working with that unique hound temperament - he has also taught me to use positve training methods and to be a firm leader WOW - that was so eye opening for me - all of my dogs have been so unique and so special in their own ways and from when we rescued our first 2 from the RSPCA to buying our first purebred so much has changed

I don't have 10 breeds Just 4 Finnish Lapphund Greyhound Malamute - love the woolly coated ones Pointer - which is a new addition for me - since I met a couple of lovely ones But def b/w a lapphund or a greyhound next - wonder if it would be better to get the lappie and then the greyhound rather than introduce a small fluffy thing to a greyhound .....but (fingers crossed) won't be for many years yet

Banshee is just awkward enough to make you think the antibiotics weren't working and then have a miracualous recovery just as you feel she will need something more extreme Off Topic - one of my kids brought in a gremlin toy today - I told her that I know someone with a dog that looks like them when they turn evil*L* ETA - hugs for you and for Banshee - and throw a few in for the rest of your clan too

Do Your Dogs Sleep/snuggle Up Together?
MsKatie replied to Magstar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wish mine snuggled - they don't lie next to each other - never mind touch That's exactly it -
We have the 2 extremes with our 2 - one will hop into the front seat and sit or lie calmly - the other is not too keen on getting in and doesn't particularly like the actual trip. I have seen myself - much to OHs amusement - sitting in the carport with the 2 dogs in the back seat - just going in - treating them when they get in - and then getting out again - over and over again The pup is 50 kgs so he is too big to lift in - we are getting there - he seems to feel more secure with his harness on too

I got told off by a very disgruntled OH about 'his' dog having a bare floor on his crate and 'my' dog having nice warm blankets and :D even a cushion. I proceeded to put a blanket into his dogs crate and wake him up in the middle of the night when the sound of his dog tearing up the blanket woke me up So - his dog has 1 blanket (when he leaves it in one piece) and my dog happily curls up on her undisturbed nest of blankets and cushion - and HIS dog snores the loudest ;)

Will do - thanks jedash *note to self - PM jedash in a week *

My 50kg dog gets 2 cups dry and a kg of raw a day - and he is a puppy - my 20 kg dog (high energy breed) gets 1 1/2 cups dry and 200g of raw a day - they are both lean build -
OUr staffy x got into a block of macadamia nut chocolate (typical - has to go the whole hog ) and he was shaking and his back legs gave out on him within 12 hours - spent the night in the vets trying to flush it out - luckily he was Ok but it was very scary

GO on Ker - you know you want to I'll bring some of OHs earplugs and share a room with you -
I get the Kong airballs for the kelpie as they squeak and aren't as abrasive as the others - she only gets them when we are out together at the dog park - so she can chase them - the hound is just too big and I worry that he would either swallow one whole or chew it up and swallow the bits.

Any help is better than none Lyndsay - the only qualification is to be a responsible dog owner - and you are definitely that!

The Ultimate Evil - The Elizabethan Collar
MsKatie replied to rubiton's topic in General Dog Discussion
Earl has one on at the moment - it is so stuck up with black and yellow tape - we even had to tape a bit of his first collar - which he destroyed completely - onto the second one when he took a chunk out of it. He can't be left alone with it on or he will kill it so I had to take him to sons football training last night - he looks like a walking caution sign - poor thing - not!!! -
Teaching My Class About Responsible Pet Ownership
MsKatie replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks Ker - that would be great - will PM you to work out a time Have contacted them - there are some good resources there My thoughts exactly and my main reason for teaching this The cutest thing I saw was one of my petite little girls with her arms around Earls neck giving him the biggest cuddle - and he sat there with the goofiest look on his face - and then he went and sat on one of my other kids so she had to give him scratches Big suck up -
