What Is Your Dog's Favourite Chew Toy?
MsKatie replied to Staranais's topic in General Dog Discussion
These look great - my two would love them - where can I get them - are they available in Australia or only from the US? -
This is about as zoomie as Earl gets
-
So do I
-
Same here - I have the K9 ones in the room for night time but was loath to pack them up and drag them outside ETA - plus with the size I need to buy it was too expensive to buy another just for dog obedience
-
I think that was the problem with our yard - the water just sat - the mud was thick in some areas - plus the added value now
-
They need to dig out some of the soil and lay and compact the crushed rubble - sometimes they can put the rubble on top of the soil and and then compact it if you don't mind the level of the garden being raised - if it needs to stay on par with the rest of the garden then it would need to be dug out they used dolomite as a base for ours and the base was laid in a day

Adelaide Tree Planting Working Bee/bbq

Bugger - would love to help but I am in Murray Bridge that weekend for Pedal Prix with my son - would be happy to help out any other way I can though - just PM me -
Absolutely thrilled - it does feel nice to walk on and it makes the backyard a nice place to go out and spend time in now - the mud was just getting into everything as the dogs trailed it around on their feet / stomachs / leags etc Will keep everyone updated with how it goes
-
It cost a fairly large ammount of money for it all - so far the poo has been easy to scoop up (except for the one the hound dumped in the river stones on the first day home) and the drainage is very good - just needs hosing off apparently if there is a smell issue - and that tends to be in summer as far as I know - we have only had it for a few days and have a bloodhound and a kelpie but - as you can see from the before photos - we had to do something and this is what we chose With all of the rain and mud it looked better on the first day when they laid the base
-
And - Ta Da - All complete
-
Day 2 - the surroundings (river stones) went in with the retaining wall - only the turf to go
-
Hi - after all the talk of artificial turf I thought people might be interested to see the pics of our yard before and after we had turf put down BEFORE - it was an absolute swamp - the grass had all been torn up by the dogs and they tracked muddy paw prints into the house regularly Day 1 - they laid the base for the artificial turf - and it looked better already
-
Fantastic - thank you - just bought one so I can take it to dog obedience and crate whichever dog I am not training
-
Well ours is all done - looks divine and the dogs seem to like running up and down on it WIll post photos later tonight
-
We are in the process of getting Termiturf laid in our back yard - quite pricey but top of the range - they have prepped the yard so far and even with just THAT done it looks better than the swamp it was before. Will post pics when it is all done - which should be tomorrow - YAY!! We have a Bloodhound and a Kelpie so fair ammount of dog traffic Edited to add quote from termiturf website

Our breeder picked our pup for us - we are first time owners of this breed and were happy to utilise her knowledge and experience - she knew about our life style and we had spoken several times on the phone - she guided us in our choices as she knew the pups well - we asked for a smoochy dog and that's exactly what we have - a big smoochy boofer

My kids have dream dogs - my daughter - 9 - wants a Border Collie and my son - 11 - wants a Golder Retriever. I have told them that when they move out of home and are in the position to own dogs we will buy them their first dog from a reputable breeder. I always had a Blue Heeler as my dream dog - moved the lerle look - probably looking at it now it was more like the blue merle border collies that i liked - but my first dog was a Blue Heeler x called Jess - beautiful girl. Now my next dream dog (s) are a lappie and then a greyhound
-
I just keep reminding myself that he is just a puppy still just a very BIG puppy *L*

What Breeds Wouldn't You Recommend For A First Time Onwer?
MsKatie replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
From a personal perspective I think it is important to have a knowledge of dog breeds and an honest understanding of what you want in a dog - besides their pretty looks - before you pick a dog. IMO this gives the best chance of a succesful pairing. -
I have just added my name to JS's table too - looking forward to it - kids are going to MIL

Try 52 kilos of pup who acts like a kangaroo at times of over enthusiasm
-
Absolutely - Earl has been threatened with being returned to his breeder so many times He is only 10 months old and - being a bloodhound is - stubborn - huge - and drooly. He chases the kelpie incessantly and is so in your face at times - the back yard is a swamp and he snores like a chain saw................. ........but he is part of the family for better or worse and we would be lost without him
-
Hugs to Dory - hope she feels better soon

Advice Needed For Council Approval For 3 Dogs
MsKatie replied to GRLC's topic in General Dog Discussion
Friend of mine has 2 smallish dogs- wanted to get a Mastiff - applied beforehand to the council and was told a straight out "No" - o now she is thinking of rehoming one of her existing dogs so she can get a Mastiff SOme very good advice - I would go with the elderly reason too -
I figured that - we do it all the time - but thought it did warrant a bit of an explanation - and another laugh at Earls expense - particularly as he is currently drooling all over the kelpie as they play
