  1. There are a couple of boarding kennels in Golden Grove - ours went to Golden Grove Boarding Kennel when we were renovating the garden and we were happy with them Here is the link Golden Grove Boarding Kennel
  2. Thanks so much for the info I did suggest a pure bred kelpie to them but they have some set ideas - I was concerned about the drive of a working line bc too. I will definitely let them know about the shedding and the health testing and I have a couple of breeders to put them in touch with. I love the look of BC s and have never seen them as a breed with coat issues
  3. Hi -I was talking to someone today who said they want a BC x Kelpie pup because they don't want the fluffy coat of the BC. I suggested a short coat BC and she wasn't even aware they came in short coat - I suggested they were more prevalent in working line BCs and also said that they would be better with a lower drive dog. They want to meet the parents and want a pup ( I did suggest there were a number of nice BC / Kelpie types in rescue) They are in SA - any suggestions for people to talk to - breeders?
  4. I have a kelpie that I muzzle due to her fear aggression and she gets a mixed reaction from people when we are at the beach - some avoid her - others will ask about the muzzle
  5. Just tried the thundershirt on Rosie for a short while - when i put it on her she immediately went into a quiet almost detached mode - our other dog couldn't work it out. I left it on for about 10 minutes and when I took it off she went and rolled on the carpet for a while - but there was a real difference in her demeanour when she had the shirt on so i am going to persevere with it - putting it on a few times and treating her - leaving it on for longer periods.
  6. Yes - they are the same as the one I have ETA - I have the furry ones from the first link futuredogtrainer put in
  7. I have one that is like the ball inside but is actually covered in a plush (if that makes sense) - it kind of looks cattish and plays some of the song Stray Cat - will see if I can find where I got it from if that is the type you are after Off topic - I may have to get that zap ball for my ball obsessed kelpie *L*
  8. My first 2 (staffy x and ACD x) ate an entire queen size quilt off the washing line, a whole 12 pack of toilet rolls, half a clam shell, the bladder from a queen size water bed and the pedals and seats from 2 bikes over the 12 years we had them - sorry - no photos as this was before digital cameras. Oh - and the ACD X also ate the crutch out of several pairs of undies and jeans (luckily they were not being worn at the time) We left an old couch outside and our Staffy x (yes the same one) methodically made his way through the couch cushions with the help of our Kelpie X.
  9. to you - sorry to hear about your boy My brothers girl had a stroke which left her with a head tilt and some confusion - after treatment she did have a bit longer with them until unfortunately having another stroke a few weeks later. This was Peaches after her first stroke
  10. I have ordered one for my kelpie who is an anxious kind of girl at the best of times - especially during fireworks - I was worried as we will be out during New Year this year so hoping this will help - is it something you could leave on them while you are out or do they need to be supervised? i can arrange for someone to sit with them if needed.
  11. Earl - being the pensive noble type has a generally solemn face - which makes it hard to think that he is ever having fun - but sometimes - when the moment is right - he can surprise you Happy Earl Very happy Earl
  12. No Bloodhound - which is a shame because they are a breed that lends itself so well to that sort of thing
  13. I bought one online from k9pro and I know they are happy to exchange if the muzzle is the wrong size - the Jafco plastic muzzles on their web site have reccomended measurements - other than that the only places I have seen reccomended are places that cater to working breeds eg. feed stores
  14. I assume the incidents with Rosie were the dog fights on Sunday - I apologise for those and spoke to both owners about them to ensure I knew what had been the cause of these - she didn't go around causing issues and she was on the leash for some of it - i took her home when I felt she had enough. So - my bad judgement muzzling her and bringing her - i don't think so as she had a few positve ineractions but obviously this was not the case and as my judgement is obviously not that of others - we won't be back
  15. i walk our kelpie and our bloodhound together - I have one on each side - with a leash in each hand - gives me a feeling of control over them - they seem to do OK
  16. Hugs to you persephone - Run free Molly - look out for my Jess over there - she'll point you to the rabbits
  17. I like Sasha - she's so enthusiastic about life Cheers
  18. LWC - my decision is absolutely not because of you - I have other reasons for making this choice for me and my dogs - Sasha obviously has a great time there.
  19. Edited to say I may refrain from coming along for a while.
  20. Will these conditions be excluded from your policy next year? It wasn't a 'condition' as such - the bl**dy dog ate a river stone - and 4 days later we suspected he ate a glass candle holder At a quick glance I can only see pre existing conditions being excluded
