  2. Thanks Sandra777 - that will be something i will suggest - I don't have personal experience with either apart from our SBT X so would like info from those who know them - might send her the breed info stuff from the Dog Breeds 101 on both breeds
  3. Hi all I have a friend who came to me this morning about a dog for her family - hubby has said they can get a dog BUT it can only be an Amstaff or a SBT Update - now looking at SBTs Bit of family info - 3 kids - one of 14 (who has Aspergers) - one of 12 and 1 of 11 - will be a first dog for the family - Mum works school hours as an SSO - Dad works full time as a contractor but it will be Mum doing most of the dog stuff. They are aware of the need to socialise and train a pup and are looking at puppy preschool and obedience training. Mum had a bit of a negative experience with a BYB Staffy x but has met my 2 dogs without issue and is very keen to get a well balanced, well bred pup which will fit in well with her family. We have spoken at great length about the needs of a pup - particularly one of these breeds - and also the wonderful qualities they have. They have a well secured yard and will have the dog desexed and microchipped - I believe - with a supportive breeder and well chosen pup this could be a great addition to their family. She told her OH that she was going to do NOTHING until she spoke to me - she is very happy for me to post this info and print out the replies for her and OH and would really like to be able to contact ethical breeders of Amstaffs or SBTs - would love to meet local ones but is also willing to look interstate. We discussed rescue but she would really like a good knowledge of background and temperament. So - I put it out to DOLers - can you guys help me to help her find the right dog for their family ETA - have looked through the DOL puppy listings and will give her that info too - I did speak to her about looking out for breeders who bred purely for colour (ones with 'blue' in the kennel name) and also ones who charged according to colour
  4. What a beautiful boy - run free after the many plastic bags across the bridge Hugs to you WEIA
  5. Our 2 are out in the yard area when we are out and generally have the choice of inside / outside when we are home. They are both crated in the bedroom overnight and watching them trot happily off to their crates at night makes me wonder why I never discovered crate training before Our yard is very secure and really hard to access from the street so they are quite safe.
  6. Currently have a kelpie and a bloodhound - would love to own a Lappie, a greyhound and an Aussie one day :D
  7. Might bring the evil kelpie down to Para Districts again with you WA - I enjoyed it there and I think footy is later now
  8. I think that sums up my experience of them - all over my chair!!!!
  9. Well done and very well deserved. I absolutely love your photos and hold out hopes you make it to SA one day - would be absolutely just the best experience to have someone so talented here ...... Just to let DOLers know I asked serena if I could share and use some of the photos from the blog with my class of 10 year olds for art - the offer was freely given and a new legion of R n R fans was born I still hold open the offer to copywrite for a coffee table book
  10. I take my 55kg Bloodhound and my 20ish kilo Kelpie out with my 9 year old daughter - she walks the kelpie AFTER we are halfway through the walk and the kelpie has calmed down - she walks next to me and is learning how to walk her properly and always hands the leash back to me if there is another dog in sight or we are walking past people and there is not a lot of room. I would not let either of my kids walk either of the dogs alone - too many things that can go wrong.
  11. We have used the kennel in Golden Grove for ours before and were happy with them - they were kennelled next to each other and got out for a play together each day Here's the link Golden Grove boarding kennel
  12. I have a very lean kelpie - obvious feeling of ribs - and a bloodhound that i can't feel his ribs on without pressing - although he does have a 'tuck' - who I struggle with weight wise - he has lots of loose skin (he is 15 months old) and I am making a concious effort to walk him for 45mins each day to see if it makes a difference. Very different dogs.
  13. Sending hugs to you and Daisy - hope it all comes good soon
  14. Sounds good Tokkie - meet you at the jetty? Just follow the drool trail Wonder what Ringo will make of Earl *L*
  15. But she's going to the groomer on Friday :D I've been waiting 3 months to get her in Only joking - it will be great to see you and the beautiful Earl again The drool will simply enhance the shine of her fur Shall we meet at the Semaphore jetty at 11.00 then
  16. Bloodhound ears are pretty popular with my kelpie *L* Seriously though - mine love the big rope toys for tugging And if it isnt the ears, its the tail and feet. They can be pretty rough sometimes, but they take it fairly well :D Or the whole back leg at times (hound can fit kelpies leg in mouth - drooly )
  17. Excellent - saves me bringing a drool towel
  18. Just updating - I am thinking of taking Earl along - anyone want to join me and the boofer - weather 27 - mostly cloudy so no sunburn
