  1. Thanks for the replies - i was thinking that as they are likely to be in different classes the crating might work - and I can have one of my kids sitting with the crated dog. I can then make sure I train them during the week too. I think I will go and talk to the head instructor at the club I used to go to and see what he thinks too
  2. Hi - I have 2 dogs - a kelpie - 3 - and a bloodhound - 21 months - and would like to do some obedience training with them - the kelpie has been to some and reached class 1 - the bloodhound has had no formal training but does walk well on leash and sit on command. I am in the Northern sububs of Adelaide I am just wondering about the best approach for this - I would be the one doing the training as OH works shifts and was wondering - could I take both and crate one when working with the other? - should I take them alternate weeks for formal training and work with them at home inbetween? - should I go to different clubs on different nights? I would really like to get the kelpie into agility and/or try out flyball as I think she would really enjoy it - but she needs the basic obedience first. I am hoping to get the bloodhound into trailling too but would still like to have a go at basic obedience with him. I have obedience trained previous dogs so am not a complete novice but it has been a long time between training Any advice welcomed - thanks all
  3. I drop my dogs breeder a note every now and again - just to keep her in the loop - always include a recent photo SHe is pretty busy but I am pretty sure she appreciates it
  4. Oh damn - what a sad outcome Be at peace Emma - you had a great 3.5 years and crossed the bridge knowing how much you were loved Run free girl
  5. That sucks Jules - Run free Brock Hang in there - not long till it gets light enough to check
  6. Haha your mum makes you wear girly pj's. Luv Fergus and Lucy Small dainty kelpie paw print here - it's not so much that I mind the cold it's just that if she won't let me out at night to chase the possum then why should I go out and pee? Rosie Dirty great Bloodhound pawprint added here - the heater is just too damn warm to tear myself away from for any reason - and in addition - that photo there has a lot to answer for - my Mum started talking to my Dad and mentioning words like "earl - pyjamas - cute - snuggly" I am a bit worried here -please tell me they don't come in large drooly dog size - i mean - the kelpie picks on me enough as it is! A rather worried Earl
  7. Saw some gorgeous purebred dogs on Saturday at the bark in the park - I am sure I saw a Swedish vallhund but I couldn't ask the owners as I was too far away and then I never saw them again. My bloodhound gets a lot of attention although some people get him confused with Basset hounds. I also saw a leonberger - and was pleased to see so many purebreed dogs there.
  8. That is pure gold!!!!! Thank you for bringing a smile to my face ETA - Monty is gorgeous :D
  9. Sunnyflower - what a brave and loving thing you did for him - run free Oscar and wait at the Bridge till those who loved you join you once again
  10. AFAIK the no food thing was suggested but never really confirmed - i checked through the old thread and that was my perception of it.

  13. Hope everyone had a good day and wasn't too cold
  14. I walk my 2 dogs with my kids - 12 an d 9 - and they get to walk the kelpie right next to me after she has had about 15 minutes to calm down. They are constantly scanning for other dogs and they hand the leash straight back to me if they see one. We only walk in onlead areas too. There is no way I would let them walk either dog without me there.
  15. We taught Earl to wait till we say OK before he takes the treat - first he sits then we hold the treat and say 'wait' - if he moves to take it we repeat the 'wait' while moving the treat back then 'ok' and he takes it - the fact he can fit my whole hand in his mouth kind of made us think about this And I do not miss the puppy teeth at all
  16. I mixed pepper, chilli powder and curry powder together to scatter where our dog was digging through the mulch - seemed to work OK - till it rained. ;)
  17. Dammit - cost me $70 after all the other things I saw and just had to have - hope the dogs don't mind pink blankets in their crates *LOL*
  18. I have one and the kelpie loves it - probably good the bloodhound doesn't - don't think the pergola would hold his weight :D
  19. Had a bl**dy dog eat a river stone on the Sunday of a long weekend - required surgery - PIA paid all of the $2000 minus the $250 excess - was very glad I had it:)
