  1. I wish you were in Brisbane I would be all over this. And he would be all over you ;)
  2. Just another reccomendation for Mark Singer - has worked with both of my dogs - and also worked with us as a family, which was what we needed.
  3. Bloodhounds are just so beautiful Awesome choice of breed there Thank you - we think he's pretty cool And he's a lure racing Bloodhound There's a cute red Bull Terrier in Adelaide too :D And for a roast chicken and a couple of nice riverstones you can have both of them

  5. Come to Adelaide and I promise a gorgeous bloodhound in a fairly grungy bathroom (or is that a fairly grungy bloodhound in a gorgeous bathroom??) *L*
  6. Well - most of you know about Earl and his penchant for riverstones - last count was riverstones 4 - Earl 0 - vet - :D ;) He has also munched my mobile phone and the watch band from my surf watch - he likes hair ties and will steal them whenever he has a chance. Our first 2 dogs ate an entire waterbed bladder - dug into the shed and sneakily devoured that and all of the plastic bits from the 2 bikes stored in there - they also ate a 12 pack of toliet paer - yard looked like it had snowed. They also chewed through the cables from the brand new washing machine and tumble drier - they ate through our entire old couch that we put out the back for them to snooze on during the day - obviously eating it was more fn thatn sleeping on it. Our old staffy x ate a whole bar of macadamia nut chocolate - night at the vets - very sick dog. The kelpie ate a bag of freddos and was fine Mum and dads foxy cross stole a ham sandwich out of my grans handbag - unwrapped it and left the wrapping in her bag.
  7. Mine is pretty obvious - although when the hound came on board it was a toss up between kelpiehound or bloodykelpie I like Kelpiehound and use it as my Twitter name too :D
  8. Sounds like the 13th might be a goer then if the weather is good - will fire up the kelpie - and the hound may be up for it by then too
  9. Bummer - looks like we'll have to wait for cooler weather
  10. Count me in - prob just with the kelpie though - Earl is still in recupariation mode from his last surgery - only thing is Sun is supposed to be hot What time are you planning on starting?
  11. Just an update - Earl got his stitches out today and is doing really well. He is eating well and is having a lovely time at the vets. Our holiday is great and we are really enjoying ourselves. Thank you to all for your support and good wishes - DOLers rock!
  12. Yeah, just leave a little gap to stick a straw in the side of his mouth, fluids only Earl! Now there's an idea - I'm sure I could puree his kibble ;) ETA - the ironic thing is that this time it WASN'T a foreign body - the vet says in all of her 19 years of practice this is the first strangulated intestine she has seen. bloody marvelous! You've probably got more chance of winning tattslotto. Isn't it typical. Oh well, at least you've still got your boy. ...and he keeps life interesting I suppose

  14. Great news - earl is doing really well and we can confidently say he is out of the woods and on his way to making a full recovery - thank you all so much for your good vibes and support - you are fantastic ETA - Earl is home - with his cone of shame - lying on his back on the floor looking for a tummy rub - I can't believe how much better he looks than when I saw him yesterday He will stay home till tomorrow night and then we will drop him back off for boarding - we are absolutely rapt to have the big boy home where he belongs - and hopefully for many years to come!!
  15. It has been hell for the last couple of days - thank you for the offer too
  16. The vet is staffed 24 hours as it is the local emergency vet. This is a family holiday that we have planned for a year and I know he is in good hands there - we did agonise over the decision and if the vet hadn't offered to board him then one of us would have stayed at home but if we were not on holidays from work then he would be at home without us for a fair bit of time.
  17. He is staying at the vets for another couple of weeks as we are going on holidays and had booked the dogs into boarding while we are away - given what has happened with Earl we made the choice to board him at the vets for the 2 weeks. Luckily the vet offers boarding becuase we were thinking at one stage that one of us would have to stay home with him while the other took the kids to Queensland. We would have done that if we had to but given the vets is staffed 24 / 7 he will be in the best place. Hopefully by the time we come home he will be fully recovered and back to his old self.
  18. Thanks all - apparently he is looking brighter and has eaten a small ammount - am waiting to talk to the vet and will add more information after I have but sounding positive Eta - have just been to see Earl and he is up and walking around - still on fluids and not a happy boy which is totally understandable - particularly as he has a cone of shame on. Fingers still crossed that he continues to improve
  19. Thanks all - have just been up to see the boy - he is passed out on the floor on a lovely warm pet bed but has been up on his feet since the operation so that was good news - he seems to have a fan club up at the vets and even managed to smooch a wolfhound girl the first night he was there. Spoke to his vet and all we can do now is wait and hope and pray that no toxins made their way into his body to cause an infection - the next 2 nights will be the telling ones so still crossing fingers. Am going back to visit him tomorrow at 2.00 - will update then. Again - thank you for all your good wishes - your support is so appreciated.
  20. Apparently it was something to do with the fact he has scar tissue from his previous operations (the 4 ones from eating riverstones ) WIll know more after I have seen the vet in a couple of hours - I want to wait until Earl is a bit more awake before I go there (and also until I have a better chance of holding it all together) I read about Mindy and that is something that gives me hope that Earl will pull through
  21. Update - just spoke to the vet - he hadn't eaten anything he shouldn't - the blood vessel has just twisted - he is out of surgery and on strong pain killers and antibiotics - he has been flushed out and has had 80 cm of his intestine removed. The next 24 - 48 hours are critical and by Friday we will know if he is through the woods - the risk now is peritonitis. Have just spoken to the kids - hard thing to do but they needed to know - so keep your fingers crossed and thank you for all of your thoguhts - they help a lot.
  22. For those of you who have followed our tale of Earl and his riverstone fetish - we now have them fenced off and thought our days of emergency vet visits were behind us. Well - he showed all the signs of an obstruction again on Saturday morning so - back up to the vets we went -X ray showed an obstruction - not a riverstone this time. Looking at the placement and the size of the obstruction we - in consultation with the vet - put Earl on fluids and hoped it would make its way through the normal channels and out. After a bad night with many vomits and a very flat dog the vet opened him up this morning and found that one of the blood vessels had been twisted and 80 cm of his intestine had been deprived of blood and died. So this will have to be removed and the intestine re-attached. Prognosis is guarded and I am sitting at home trying to hold it together for the sake of the kids - so - anything you can send our way - please do. The doofus has driven us insane and cost us the price of a small car in vet bills but we are not ready to lose him. Hang in there big boy.
  23. Drat it - I will be away for both of those dates but will def be at the next one after that - weather permitting
