  1. Saw it briefly - amazing agility bunnies: gorgeous and so easy to handle.
  2. When Tielle used to get skin cancers from the sun in her old age, I put a rashie on her. Easily made from a human one, with some elastic threaded through the waist to stop it dragging on the ground. Just a thought.
  3. I like Canine Cuts and Vanity Fur...I think it does help to have a name that people can readily understand the business from - hence the Canine Cuts. Paws and Fur Furry Friends Groomers Paws Hair Paws Awhile Groomers Hounds and Hair Hairy Hounds Tooth and Nail and [drumroll] Hairway to Heaven (ok so more suited to people ;) )
  4. Apart from the magpie phobia that means she stands stiff and alert watching all the birds on the field, my dog has an issue with distraction and attention generally. The moment we are out the front door, she pays little or no attention to me. She walks well enough on the lead but, as her breed dictates, spends her time gazing at anything and everything but me (barks madly at magpies). I watch constantly in case I can click and treat, but to no avail. Any ideas what might work? She doesn't seem interested in food at all when outside.or toys. Inside, I can get her to sit, drop, come fairly reliably. She seems like a fast learner. She sits for her dinner. Offers a sit to get her toy back if I remove it. Offers a sit to have her lead on.
  5. Risk? Must confess I loathe Rhys too. I was watching a greyhound adoption video on YouTube and one of the Greys off the track was called "Lemonhead"
  6. My old JRT cross injured one of hers and it had to be removed. Vet (not my usual vet) eventually persuaded me, against my better judgement to take both off. It was very traumatic for her, long recovery and I bitterly resented the additional pain I'd caused her - all for nothing really in the case of the ok dew claw. Wouldn't do an adult unless a very good reason.
  7. I like the double "n" - no Tina and looks like an aboriginal word. Very original. It would be my first preference because of it's uniqueness.
  8. Thanks for that! Had to join COTD and endure 100s of ads to find the dog brushes but they look good. Someone accidentally chewed the handle off one of my slicker brushes (not looking at any particular greyhound in any particular avatar :D ) Not that it was even her brush! but the handle sure was tasty.
  9. As the walker of a small fear-aggressive brown dog, I so hate hearing other people say (in the case of a pair of careering labs heading directly for us on the street) "They're alright. They don't bite" or "Don't worry, my dog's friendly"... If you are on the street, walking your dog, you have a right not to be hassled by off-lead dogs getting in your dog's face. Luckily we moved away from the out of control labs who were often loose when we did our before-work walk. As a person, I found it intimidating to be charged by the labs. My little dog is so much better now we rarely meet off-lead out of control dogs. All he ever did was snap when they 'stood over him' so maybe he's like Cream. As for dog parks - having read the problems people with aggressive dogs have when they take them down the park for their regular exercise sheesh! what can you say Article contains some useful tips. Good article. As you say, should be compulsory reading.
  10. I'm using human grade beef mince now but even that can have preservatives. At least there'd be more of an outcry if levels were that excessive. I think they really need better petfood labelling laws.
  11. Remember the fleas often have to bite the dog for the treatment to work so they'll itch for some time. OMG I just noticed Ginger having a scratch Time to treat mine. Apparently greyhounds are sensitive to insecticides so you can't use flea collars on them (read that somewhere). I don't like the idea of the tablet - they eat the flea poison?
  12. Yikes, I can't believe these obviously aggressive dogs get taken to dog parks where they "alpha roll" other dogs... Then again, I can. One of my harmless JRT crosses was rolled by a massive golden retriever cross standard poodle when walking off lead, at heel in the dog park. The owner said "oh, he does that but it's alright, he never hurts them". I was too stunned to reply. NOT ALRIGHT. NEVER ALRIGHT. NOT IN THE DOG PARK. NOT IN CLASS. NOT WALKING IN THE STREET. NEVER !!! ETA sorry, sudden rush of blood to the head. I'm still very angry years later
  13. Exactly Amypie! And all the bad side effects of sulphur dioxide (brain damage, seizures etc).
  14. Much of the mince and sausage rolls tested had very high levels of sulphur dioxide. Any adverse experiences?
  15. Does anyone use ny kind of BARF or fresh meat patties/rolls home delivered? I'm interested in something preservative free?
  16. Thanks freundhund, sounds good - I might see you there. I imagine there won't be too many black greyhounds with pink collars so you'll spot me easily. Apparently, enrolment is on the first Sunday of the month and this is it.
  17. I ask because I'm thinking of taking my greyhound Poppy aged six to obedience class there. The curriculum looks quite competitive. Greys are not renowned obedience dogs. Any other suggestions? I did go to Leichhardt years ago with Ginger who was very adept at obedience but it was kind of chaotic with all the off lead dogs around. There is another mob at Homebush, Blessington Park, Saturday afternoon. Thanks for your thoughts. You can PM me if you prefer.
  18. You can also use an old quilt cover to cover the mattress/dog bed and keep it clean if it's not washable. Then you just wash the quilt cover. Like a loose cover on funiture.
  19. That is one cute dog! No-one else gets a look-in!
  20. I couldn't read the PDF of the in-home training on the greenhounds site on my ipad yesterday (no adobe flash on ipad) and it's not available this morning... will have to keep an eye out for it. Had wanted to start straight away :D
  21. A week in kennels? That's a bit stressful for dogs and owners. Please not that! Must add a bit to the cost too.
  22. Hilarious! The dog seems to sense the baby's mood too.
