Hmm, I have just popped in to this thread to try to get a better understanding about the prong collars. I have a young 7 mth old Rottie bitch who can be very strong. If I walk her on my own she is very good, but if I have another dog with me being led by someone else I have a hell of a battle until half way around the block until she settles down. Not my idea of having a nice peaceful walk. Since you have used the horse / bit as an example I am now even more set on learning about using a prong. I need to get this girl to settle on walks with other dogs. I had horses for almost 20 years. Most of them I used a soft snaffle bit, Tom thumb or an egg butt. 2 of them took me ages and heaps of money to find the right bit. I did not want to go to a hard bit as I thought it was too cruel. But the reality of it being that the horses were bloody dangerous if I could not control them properly. So I ended up going with a portmouth pelham with chain. (both straight and curbed - with and with out players) You name it I would have tried it. Exercise had nothing to do with it as my "short rides" were usually around 10 MILES, when I had time I would do anything from 10 - 40 MILES sometimes much more. I was doing trail riding in those days so everything was fit including me. The horse that caused me the most grief I kept for 15 years, he only got the message when he was getting into his golden years. So if I am to think of a prong collar on a dog like I would with a hard bit on a horse, I am all for the prong collar used correctly, as control is vital. Now I am going to go back through all the posts to learn more about something that I thought was not a nice tool to use on any dog. Only now I have a different understanding about how good a prong really can be when used correctly. ED: Ok Read it all and I am open to learn more on the prong collar if I need to use one in the future. How about some good old fashioned obedience done at least twice a day. Prongs are illegal in Vic and for F***sake she is a baby.

What state are you in? -
Anne, how is Sophie? Didn't she go to the oncologist recently? You have not posted for a while about her, am a bit worried that she is okay. Sorry if I seem pushy but would really like to know.

Just wondering if someone knows of a good dog groomer in the Knox (Vic) area. A friend at work has a Groodle and is in need of a good groomer. The coat needs trimming. I will post this in Gen Disc as well. Thanks

Thank you so much for that update. Like Oonga, it made me smile and feel very happy for you and Sophie. She sounds like she is pushing the limits and enjoying every minute of it. Here is a couple of pics of an Ash son, doing exactly what you described Sophie as doing. Wonder where she gets that from?

Hi Anne, how is Sophie? I hope all is well with her as you have not posted on here for a few days.

[quote name='Delkerabo' Because I have come across it personally within the last three years. Mmmmmmmmmmmm -
Get your vet to check out Murray River Encephalitis. There have been a few cases around in the East. It is carried by mosquitos. Does she have a pimple type rash? or anything like that?

Yahoo Sophie and CavnRott. :p  I am so happy, relieved and proud. Well done guys, that is the best news I have heard. So so happy. Great to hear that Sophie is loving her walks, sniffing every blade of grass along the way.

Anne, can I come back as your dog too? I too bet her liver is okay. The milk thistle weed is brilliant stuff. You make sure you tell her how proud we all are of her. Pat yourself on the back too. We are all so very proud of the both of you. So pleased to read she is holding this horror at bay.

Anne, I am so pleased to read that Sophie is enjoying life. I can just picture her sniffing, rolling and piddling everywhere. Just to let you know her daddy loves rolling in green soft grass. If I know her, she would want to go on all the walks, she would think it is her right. How is she eating? Does she like egg flips and scrambled eggs? Both of those are good for you and easy to eat. Never apologise for the length of your posts, we need to read about Sophie.

Anne, please tell Sophie we are praying for her. Tell her that she has to fight longer. Tell her we want to be selfish and have her here. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes and saying come on Sophie. Sh*t, sorry. I do not know what I am saying. My emotions are telling me to say what my heart says not my head. Anne, give her what she wants, enjoy your time with her.

So so happy to read that Sophie is still coping. I really dread coming in here but then get annoyed when you do not post. I am breathing a sigh of relief and please give Sophie a hug from us. Well done Anne with her treatment.

Staffyluv, what sort of repair are they doing? The new method or the old one.

Great to read that Sophie's liver is okay. I do swear by Milk Thistle Weed. It is brilliant, a mild cleanser and tonic for the liver. Staffyluv, have you got a spare room you can put a baby gate at the door and put Ollie in. That way he can move around and relax. They are a pain in the butt when they have a bad leg. I have one here at the moment who has a partial rupture of the cruciate and she is crated in a 4x4 crate. I would prefer her in a room but as my daughters will be up at the weekend both my spare bedrooms will be occupied. On Sunday night I will be up ending the bed and making the room into a sick room. We only walk on a flexi lead so there is no running and sudden twisting. We have to go back to the vet in another week, if the knee looks like it is healing then we go onto cartrophen shots but if not then we will be have the De Angelis(sp?) done. This is the old fashioned way as I will not have metal put into my dogs if I can get out of it.

CavNrott, I use the dried herb. I have brought it bulk from www.greenpet.com.au It is a great site for herbs. A lot of the large pet stores sell the pill popper, they are great for dogs and cats. When I have trouble getting mine to take tabs, I hide it in liver bread or some people call it liver cake. Great stuff for hiding pills.

CavNrott, that is such good news, who cares if she looks matronly, so long as she is well in herself. I found out yesterday exactly what Ash's mother died of. Liver cancer at the age of 9. I have Ash on Milk Thistle Weed Tea and have had him on this for a while. It is a mild liver cleanser and tonic. I do have him senior blood tested every six months so fingers crossed I have every base covered. I have not heard of many with the cancer that Sophie has, I mean where she has it. I am sure that Sophie will go on for quite a while yet and although I do not regularly post in here, I do read and wish for a positive outcome. Sometimes I dread opening up this forum for fear of what is posted. So please give my granddaughter a kiss and hug from me and tell her we are rooting for her.

Danni, I am so sorry to hear of Keisha's passing. She is now pain free and as ZnQ's poem said, has lots of new friends, toys and food. She is watching over you, Jeff and Diesel. Rest In Peace Keisha, say hello to my furkids for me. So sad, my heart goes out to you.
-
CavNrott, great to hear that Sophie is still well and going strong. Kisses and hugs to her. ZednQ, BP, Wolfgirl, Dogsforall and Staffylova, huge hugs to you guys and your sick furkids. Thinking of you all and praying that you will get that extra time with your special furry friends.
