Nannas, I personally would love to know where you got your information from re the Rottweiler being 52cm. In the 1921 ADRK breed standard they are as follows, height at shoulder: Dogs 60 - 68cm Bitches 55 - 65cm. The 1960 breed standard states Dogs 60 - 66cm Bitches 55 - 61cm They then went on to fix the standard at Height at shoulder for a male, 60 - 68cm 60 - 61cm small' 62 - 64cm medium sized 65 - 66cm large 67 - 68cm very large Height at shoulder for a female 55 - 63cm 55 - 57cm small 58 - 59cm medium sized 60 - 61cm large 62 - 63cm very large So please can you inform all us ignorant Rottweiler people where you got your information from? After doing a bit more researching, in 1901 when the Rottweiler was not just a black and tan dog but could have been brindle, red with a hint of black, grey with black and yellow markings, white markings on the forehead, chest or paws. The height still ranged between 50 - 60cm. So even then dogs were over your so called standard. It is called selective breeding not cross breeding as you so ignorantly call it.

Thanks everyone. I live up the Melba Hway, not far from Yea. I do have rivers I can swim him in but as he is an old dog, I am worried about the undercurrent. Not sure how strong he is for that. I need to build his rear and back straps. A friend of mine has a wonderful dam but they are an hour away. Guess that is where I am going.

I need to swim one of my dogs and all the dog pools are a long way from me. Can you swim dogs at Lilydale Lakes and is it legal? If so, is there a particular area designated to dogs? Also is it clean? Sorry about all the questions

Goodluck with your impending litter. One of my girls, 1st litter, natural mating whelped 63 days. 2nd mating frozen semen whelped at 60 days. I have always been told that they can whelp earlier with implant matings.

I vote for Wayne from All Creatures. I sent a pup to NZ and could not be happier with the service. Pup arrived safely and happy.

I too use galv rubbish bins with lock down lids. Got them from Bunnings. I store all my dog food out in a stable (no horses only dogs) so I needed something that would keep the occasional vermin out. Mice chewed through the plastic one I had.

I use Delete too, find it excellent and pleasant smelling too.

This is the reason I never take deposits. It allows either party to pull out. Much safer way. I also believe it allows the puppy buyer to change their mind and not take a pup they really did not want. Better for the pup. Re your girl, I would get her desexed before she went to her new home.

I too use 2x2's. My dogs love them. They get two or three per day. Never had a bad reaction from them.

All the babies look gorgeous. Goodluck to those who are waiting on arrivals. We welcomed 6 Rott babies into the world yesterday. 3 Boys and 3 Girls. Sadly one little girl was tiny and did not make it through the night. The rest are strong and healthy and Mum is doing a great job of feeding, cleaning and polishing.

SSM, that is not something I have heard of in Rottweilers. I don't think it is a problem with our breed and is something you would have to ask a vet. Re health questions to ask, as many as the buyers can think of. Main ones are xrayed hips and elbows and both need to come inside our national breed standard. Which is, an individual must not score more than 20 or a combined pair must not score more than 20. Elbows no more than a score of 3. The lower the better. The ideal is 0 - 1. Eye and dental checks. All of the above have certificates, ask to view these. See both parents if possible. Make sure both have excellent temperaments and also they are housed well. Make sure there is back up from the breeders, most ethical breeders offer this. There are many questions a puppy person can ask but be assured the breeder will ask a lot of questions as well.

MM, that litter is really extra special. Just that litter will open up the gene pool for you guys and that can only be good for the breed. Did you all use the same vet to inseminate or different ones? I do think some vets are better than others with this procedure. Hope you get plenty to choose from.

MM, congratulations, it is rather exciting, not just that she is pregnant but more because they are frozen puppies. You both will be fine. We are having our first frozen litter too, so I was overjoyed to confirm that Mikki is pregnant. Now is the waiting game.

Yahoo, Mikki is pregnant, we saw 4 nice sized blobs. I did not want to get my hopes up too much as this is our first frozen litter and I did not want to jinx myself. Very excited now. Loving all these pregnant girlies.

We have our ultra sound tomorrow to confirm if Mikki is preggers or not. I think she is but don't want to count my chickens. Hopefully there will be some lovely little Italian Rotts in there.
