Is There A Cutoff Age For Owning A Dog?
smooch replied to redangel's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have 2 dogs Smooch who is a inside dog, on the small side for a kelpie. Than there is Jimmy another kelpie who is my working dog. Jimmy is a outside dog. Smooch I don't have problems with picking him up and putting him into the laundry tub for a bath, Jimmy on the other hand is too heavy for me to lift therefore doesn't get bathed that often. I have decided that Smooch is my last dog as I hope he will be around for a few years yet (he is 11) and by than I don't think my body would cope with looking after a dog. In the mean time if anything happens to me Smooch goes to my vet and Jimmy will most likely stay with ES if not my farrier will take him. I must also add that Smooch is slightly disabled and and therefore high maintenance. -

Mine arrived today. Now to check the chips in all our dogs and horses.

Smooch was supposed to be my daughters dog, but he has bonded with me, doesn't let me out of his sight. Sulks if I leave him at home. If I am in the bath room too long he checks up on me. So all mine.

Is it possible to padlock the gate from the inside where it can't be cut.

We had no luck with the citronella collar, our dog loved the smell, tried the lemon one but once the spray was used up she would bark again. So it only worked while there was lemon spray in it. The zapp collar worked on this dog but we did have to use it on another and it worked until she worked out that if she only barked once the collar would give a warning beep, once it didn't beep she would be full blown barking but this dog is a chronic barker, bark's from daylight to dark.

We got these tags, they were really good and fast postage. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120545827497?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I have used the same vet practice for over 20 years now. Smooch has his own vet as he knows Smooch inside and out from when he had a spinal stroke. I also use a couple of the other vets there for the other dogs, horses or cattle. I think there is a couple of new vets there that I haven't ever sighted.

Nice pics. I love seeing the black cockatoos, especially in summer when we need plenty of rain, they are usually a sign of rain.

Any saddlery shop should be able to make you one.

I agree with Nevafollo, Monday night one of my neighbors came and gave me a rego no of a ute that was supposedly stalking our dogs while we were out. He gave me and another neighbor the rego no. We reported it to the police. Next morning the same ute is parked near our gate again, it turns out to be a member of a club next to our property. Other neighbor posts rego no onto FB. Now all of a sudden this vehicle is spotted in another area with same no.plates but with dog cages on the back and different make of ute. Now the poor guy that owns the Rego no doesn't have cages on the back of his vehicle but does at times have his working dogs tied on the back of the ute. This type of info is just causing confusion, Rego nos should be handed to police and let them deal with it. I also CAN'T complain about the way police handled our report, they turned up on my doorstep 3 hours after making the report and they had to drive about 70k as our station isn't maned. So people please make sure your info is correct before posting.

This turned out to be a false alarm, I know this as it was at my place. The vehicle belongs to a member of the club next to my paddock. He was there on the mobil phone and the neighbor thought he had binoculars. I spoke to the owner of the vehicle this morning. I wonder how long it will take for the police to follow up on it. Police followed up on it last night 3 hours after we contacted them they were at my place. Our local station isn't maned after 5pm, they had to travel about 60K's

Kelpie With Strange Bald Spot On Inner Front Leg
smooch replied to mixeduppup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If the vet can't find a cause it could possibly be a old area where the dog had been licking damaging the hair follicles therefore hair won't grow back. Other than that no idea. One of my kelpies has the same, started years ago licking his leg raw at the top of his front leg gradually working his way towards the bottom, I get it all healed up and he starts where he left off. Now he has this bald patch running down his leg. -
What Would Your Friends And Family Do With Your Dogs?
smooch replied to Alyosha's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it all depends on the dog involved, Smooch is really a one person dog,he has had a lot of medical issues, can't be left for too long on hot days as he won't drink when I am not home. After discussions with Smoochies vet who has looked after him since he was a pup, Smooch is now 11 years old. I have made the discussion that Smooch is left to my vet and he will put him down, have him cremated and his ashes scattered on my property. Than Jimmy my working dog he loves everyone, my daughter would keep him or if that wasn't possible our horse farrier would take him. Jimmy is only 3years old and a trained working dog. -

Not a dog trailer, a trailer with dog crates in it. This vehicle has been spotted on the day dogs have gone missing.

http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/news/general/owners-fear-dogs-taken-for-illegal-fights/2596206.aspx QUOTE)Owners fear dogs taken for illegal fights BY DONNA SHARPE 20 Jun, 2012 04:00 AM Fears of illegal dog fighting rings in the Coalfields are growing with reports of two more dogs being stolen from Maitland's western suburbs. The latest thefts come a week after a bulldog was stolen from a Rutherford backyard. To read The Herald's opinion, click here. Amy Shapland said two dogs belonging to her and partner Kane Down, were stolen from their Telarah property a week apart and said she has heard numerous stories about other dogs going missing from secured yards in her neighbourhood. Coco, her female American Staffordshire bull terrier, was taken on Saturday, June 9, the day after the bulldog named Tank was stolen. Dungey, her male English staffy, was taken last Friday. "There have been numerous dogs go missing from around this area and there has been some speculation about what has been going on," Miss Shapland said. "People have seen a tonner truck with a 16-cage trailer going around the area picking up dogs. It has been spotted twice but no one has been able to get a number plate." While the RSPCA's Hunter shelter at Rutherford has only received one call from a man who reported his dog as stolen, Maitland Police duty officer Glenn Blain said he only knew what he had read in the Newcastle Herald. "We ask people to report all thefts including dogs," he said. The owner of Tank, Amy Cole said she had contacted police but was directed to the Police Assistance Line to lodge a report. Ms Shapland said she is offering a reward for her dogs but did not wish to disclose a figure. Tank's reward has been raised to $6000. "We just want our dogs back, they are like our babies and there will be no questions asked if they are returned," Ms Shapland said. "Our biggest fear is that all these dogs are being stolen for illegal dog fighting." Miss Cole said her search for Tank is ongoing and she had heard of about 10 thefts of dogs across Maitland since the Herald published Tank's story. "Just before Tank was stolen I understand that three bulldogs went missing from a home in Telarah," she said. "One was found wandering the streets and taken to the pound, two others were found in a bad way near Walka Water Works with cuts and patches ripped out of their skin. "Something is going on and we have to get to the bottom of it." QUOTE)

Is the FB page an open group one with a handy link? I can't find the FB page now, I get lost in the new timeline. I really only thought more about it when the council ranger mentioned it so we were aware.

Unfortunately people probably just thing they are a transport or just their own dogs. Its only after the dogs have been stolen is people say they saw that vehicle.
