Thanks all. Tomas - That was my line of thinking as well with the yoghurt. Will try the capsules and see how we go.

Over the last week Smooch has developed bad breath which appears to be coming from his stomach. He had a vet check about 3 weeks ago, worming, vac. teeth etc are all up date. I cook his meals, chicken, vegies, Phyllium Husk and half a raw turkey neck. He suffered a spinal stroke (can't remember the proper name) about two years ago and since that he does have problems when doing poo, he starts and than has to run around for it all to fall out. Mostly only poos when he gets excited. I am going to start him on Yogurt tonight, he won't eat commercial dog food. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The wood ducks will eat the commercial chicken pellets, we have a wood duck living with our other ducks, she was a rescue and can't fly so stays here with out ducks and geese. all live happily together.

I am so grateful to you guys that sent my daughter PM's about this woman, The info she gave us was nearly the same as in this thread except that rescue groups wouldn't let her have a dog as she was disabled. She told my daughter that she would ring her two nights ago to make arrangements to meet up in Gosford about 2 hours from us. Today my daughter has had several voice mail messages on her phone from this person. I just shudder to think where Mickey might have ended up.

We had a red kelpie a few years ago that couldn't swim. She would go into the water, put her head under it to get stones out. Than one day down on the creek her ball fell into the creek and she wouldn't go in and get it so threw her into the creek which wasn't very deep but deep enough that she couldn't touch the bottom, she managed to get to the side before I was able to walk out to get her. Smooch will only go to the edge of the dam, lay in the edge and come out, I don't think he can swim.

Smooch would never eat dog food, I now cook chicken mince, with either vegies, rice or pasta. and when I can get them I get meaty bones, cut off the meat and cook this with the above, he also gets half a turkey neck (gets this every night). I can't give Smooch raw meat as he will bring it all up so all meat is cooked except the turkey neck.

I do give our dogs the odd slice when we have it. corned beef/silverside I give it a good soak in several changes of fresh water and than I bake it. I think it tastes better this way. I used to cook it in a slow cooker, pressure cooker and boiled on the stove top with veggies added like others have said, but no one here likes it that way so I now bake it. edit to say we grow our own meat and have it cut up at a butcher

As far as I am aware Oleander is very toxic to dogs as well as horses. Our neighbour has heaps growing along our boundary fence, they never maintain it and grows over our fence, Council told me to cut off what was hanging over the fence and return it to them. I am forever cleaning up leaves and flowers that have fallen over the fence.

Washing Dogs (can It Be Too Often)
smooch replied to ClareL's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I bath Smooch several times a week as he sleeps in bed with me and running on acreage around cattle often smells. Normally I would use shampoo once a week and than if he needs to be washed I only use conditioner.
