I like the Ruff Wear Grip ones, I used them on Smooch when he was learning to walk after suffering a spinal stroke, they gave him a bit of grip on the tile floor. Also stopped him from wearing his toes when he was dragging his back leg. I did use baby socks in the shoes basicely he was wearing the shoes all day.

In Maitland I would recommend Maitland Vet Hospital. they are on the roundabout near the railway station. http://www.maitlandvet.com.au/ If you wanted to travel a little further, I would recommend Singleton Vet Hospital on the highway.

I had the same problem with collars, my thoughts and they are only my thoughts is that the collars don't breath. I have a flat chain collar on Smooch and have never had this problem with him. But the other dogs had leather or nylon collars and they were always scratching at them. Have now replaced them with the flat chain collars and they now seem to be fine. Unfortunately I could not source these collars anymore in Australia and had to get them out of the UK

Any Way Of Keeping Neighbour's Cat Out Of My Yard?
smooch replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
I made a cheap and effective cat trap when we had a Ferrel cat problem. It got locked into our shed where my birds where, at 11pm that night I heard a noise in the shed went out to investigate it and here was this ferrel cat on top of the bird cage. Set up the cage and caught the cat within ten min. 1 bird cage with a large door, a piece of string, a nice smoked piece of ham, a small piece of styrofoam (S). Lift the door up, prop it up with the foam, attached to string, which is attached to piece of ham. Cat goes into cage to eat ham, pulls on it and pulls the foam from the door and door shuts. -
I love my vet, I ended up in Sydney when I burnt my arm, couldn't pay bills as I didn't have my cheque book as was only going to be in Sydney for a week to10 days, ended up being there for 2 months. Ring my vet to tell him what is going on and he said don't worry about the bill it will be fine pay it when you come back. Than on another occasion Smooch suffered a spinal stroke, rushed him to the vet in tears, he saw me come in and left the customer he was with to attend to Smooch, (Customer was a vaccination), than organized for Smooch to go to Sydney etc. I was in no state to do anything. My vet has just been fantastic and I would highly recommended him to anyone.

Stormie - I get the turkey necks atm at coles or woolies supermarket, bit expensive at $4.00kg, I was getting them at a produce store in bulk for $2.80 but they closed up so I am looking for another supplier. i only give smooch half a turkey neck, he won't eat until he has had the turkey neck and I found the chicken neck he was swallowing nearly whole and than he would bring it back up.

Whats The Most 'out There' Thing You Have Done
smooch replied to lilypily's topic in General Dog Discussion
Smooch has always slept in my bed on the elect blanket and me on the other side. When he had a spinal stroke and was unable to walk, we slept on the lounge with a thick sheet of plastic under the sheets, I lost count how many times I was piddled on. He could not be left at home on his own so when we needed to go shopping we would take smooch with us, one of us would go and get what we needed while the other stayed in the car with him. Than we would swap. So finally when smooch learn't to walk again but still dragged one back leg a bit, I had to cut the legs off from my bed so that Smooch could get onto the bed without falling back ward. He won't use the steps to get onto the bed. He has also taken over my new Jason Recliner chair, and I get the computer chair to sit on. He has his dinner cooked for him as he won't eat dog food, has to have his half a turkey neck or won't eat his dinner. Lost count of how many different treats is in the pantry for him, he knows which one he wants and when he wants it and won't settle for just any. -
How Does Your Dog Let You Know What They Want?
smooch replied to mutt lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
When smooch wants something from the pantry he will walk to the pantry and back to me, this will go on several times, so I ask him what he wants so back to the pantry he goes. So in the pantry I keep several different types of treats, if he doesn't want the one I go to give him he will turn his head away until I get the one he wants. My sister once commented that Smooch defiantly knows what he wants lol. -
Willow - I wouldn't even think about sending the dog to the pound especially if you are hoping to make friends with these people. My best friend is a couple I meet through their escaping dog. This dog is one that does not jump fences but climbs their 6ft steel fence. We have tried everything to keep this dog in. the only thing that worked was my cattle elect fence, but if its not turned on he will get out. But because this dog is a escapee I have meet these lovely people and we have been friends now for about 9 years.

I had the same problem recently with Smooch, I got some Inner Health powder from the chemist.

Instead of buying fly traps make your own and it will cost you nothing. I get a 2ltr coke bottle, cut the top off where it starts to round off, invert it back into the bottle, put a hole either side, but a few prawn shells or any type of meat into the bottle, cover with water, hang up with a bit of wire. flies go into it and can't get back out, when full just throw away and make another.
