  1. I use my crate for Smooch when I go out to use the ride on mower. It was never a problem until he had a spinal stroke which has left him slightly disabled in his back legs. I am so scared he might fall in front of the mower that he now goes into a crate. If I didn't put him in a crate he would tare everything apart inside just because I left him. Yet he is fine when I leave him to go out.
  2. I have one pair of white sheets, only because they were marked down to less than half price and no other colour to choose from. I do wash sheets every second day in summer and every third day in winter, Smooch feels the cold very much so climbs into bed with me, thats ok though as he climbs behind my sore back and keeps it warm all night.
  3. Smooch sleeps all day on the lounge if I am inside, only goes outside to do his business. He goes to bed when I do, he sleeps with me. We live in a shed converted to a flat and there is a door between the rest of the shed and our living quarters. I have a doggy toilet set up in the shed, Smooch opens the door both ways, goes out does what he has to and than comes back to bed. I do half wake up when he opens the door.
  4. Should grow back, I clip the feathers from Smoochies back legs to make it easier to find the odd flea that hides there, and it does eventually grow back, just a bit slowly.
  5. Poor puppies. There is just so many out there that this is happening to, just don't know what goes through peoples heads when they do things like this. I know what I would love to do to these people.
  6. LOL now you have me guessing. Ill leave you to mull it over (hint, I think the time you were there I was riding a pally) Yup I remember the Pally. You can always bring your pup here, ES has a kelpie that loves to run and gets on with anyone and everyone. Now I have worked out who you are, How is the printing business going?
  7. Yes I was watching it. I won't say what I thought of the guy LOL.
  8. that is basically what I was told when enquiring with my (then) local council a few years ago. I bought a padlock for the gate instead. Many years ago I was attacked by a dog on the owners property (owner was running a business from his home). My solicitor at the time said if there had been a sign (Beware of the dog) we could prosecute as the dog had attacked me and I ended up with 10 stitches in my arm. This was about 20 years ago though so laws may have changed by now.
  9. I don't have floorboards but have tiles right through the place. I got cheap rubber backed mats from Sams Warehouse. I throw them in the washing machine at times or give them a quick spray with No Vac foam carpet deodorizer (the one with the dogs on it) available at big W or woolworths. I also have old blankets and bed sheets on the lounge, sheets get washed about every 3rd day and the blanket gets a quick spray with the No Vac. In front of the lounge I have a rubber mat so when Smooch jumps onto the lounge he doesn't slip and go over backwards. (He is weak in the back legs due to a spinal stroke). Smooch gets bathed once a week, more if there is a lot of wet weather, which unfortunately we are not getting atm.
  10. They sure do have to be restrained in and on a vehicle. I was pulled over by police for having Smooch unrestrained in a vehicle but when the police actually had a look Smooch had his harness and safety belt on.
  11. All our kelpies are microchipped, with our council working dogs don't have to be microchipped but council will come out and see if a dog is actually working as a working dog. If not working they have to be registered. Smooch was never registered with council as he was passed as a working dog, but he probably should be registered now as he no longer works cattle due to the spinal stroke he had a few years ago which left him weak in the back end. but as he really loves to work his job now is to round up the ducks and gees late afternoon into their pen. So I suppose technically he is still working. LOL
  12. May I suggest you get some help with this - it is not a nice balanced relationship , and could be very hard for your dog if you were to suddenly get ill or something! This has been a worry of mine, have spoken to my vet about it and he has agreed that ES can take Smooch to work with her so he is not left alone for too long. My vet also knows what he has to do if something serious should happen to me. Smooch is now 10years old and the same vet has treated him all his life. Other than this I really don't know what else to do with him.
  13. Unfortunately there are many people out there that have no clue about animals and would not take any notice of a dog running around on the streets. Glad you are all OK.
  14. I think both Smooch and I suffer from separation anxiety. A few years ago he was at the Sydney specialist center for two months after suffering a spinal stroke, I wasn't allowed to go near him as it would take too long for Smooch to settle when I left. this was on the advise of my vet. When Smooch came home he was still paralyzed and couldn't be left alone, even when we needed to go shopping either ES or myself would have to stay in the car with Smooch. A couple of weeks ago Smooch was on a fluid drip for three days and as there is no one at the vets of a night I had him at home, Smooch and I slept on the lounge with a lead attached to his harness and wrapped around my hand so that if he moved I would wake up. I can't close the bathroom door when I am in there as Smooch would rip the door down. These days I only ever leave him for about 3 hours and he sulks the whole time. Biggest problem I have is that he won't drink if I am not around. so leaving him on a hot day is just not on.
  15. Many years ago I was attacked by a white shepherd male dog. The owner of the property was a saddler working from his back yard, I was delivering goods for my Ex's business. I entered the open gates to go to the workshop, dog is on the veranda of the house, dog jumps off the veranda with tail wagging running towards me (no warning bark nothing), when it got within approx. meter from me it lept and if I hadn't put my arm up it would have got me in the face, I ended up with 10 stitches in my arm. I started screaming when the dog latched onto my arm and the owner came out. The owner stated the dog had never ever looked aggressive towards anyone before and that I must have done something for the dog to attack. So why did this dog attack me I have no idea.
  16. Another with a roomba robot. I love mine.
  17. To me pet insurance is well and truly worth it. A month after getting the insurance Smooch suffered a spinal stroke (can't remember the teck term) which cost me about $8000 in treatment. I am with Insuranceline, my monthly plan is $47per month but the way I look at it is that my first claim has already paid this for a few years. I have has several smaller claims as well and they have always been paid promptly.
  18. I have been using Urine Odour Neutraliser from http://www.adchem.com.au/ I had the problem of urine smell when the humidity is high. I have tile floor and used this two or three days in a row and now haven't noticed the smell over the last few weeks and we have had quite a bit of humidity.
  19. My parents in the early 55's fed our dog anything and everything, table scraps including cooked bones left over from roasts etc., dog food whatever was available at the supermarket. Dog only ever saw a vet for yearly vacc. She lived to 15 yrs. I did the same up until about 15 years ago, my old Kelpie was 17 when she passed and only ever saw a vet once and that was to have her desexed.
  20. A cooked turkey neck? Sorry should have been a bit clearer, the turkey neck isn't cooked. If I give him more raw than that even a full turkey neck he will bring it all up within a few min. Have tried building him up to more raw slowly over the years but it just didn't work. He is now 10 years old.
