That's what is causing the sloppy poo's.

I have just finished reading this thread and like to say thanks for some tips. My Newfy Pup which is 6 months old is trying to show his dominance by starting to mouth again. I tried the loud "No" with more omph in it and it seems to be working yay. No all I have to is stop him from nudging me with his rump when he wants me to stop.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good Dog Training School in the Lismore area. I have a Newfy Pup that needs to get back into Obedience Training as he is going through his Teen stage. Thanks

It depends on what you are feeding. I'm feeding my Newfy pup RAW and it took a good 3 weeks before his poo's were solid.

Can someone tell me when Tick season finishes? Thanks

I have heard that you can use Lime in the soil to get rid of them, is that true and is it safe for dogs? Thanks

I have been so happy since feeding Digi RAW and I think I have the quantity right. He loves crispy apples and I don't have to juice them lol. Thanks for the great tips I have gotten here.

OMG 10 kg of food a day, my Newfy would be a fat boy with lots of joint problems. I'm trying to keep him on the lighter side because of him being a Giant Breed Pup but I get awfully confused with the amount to feed.

Can I ask what is the meaning of Prey Driven? I get what you are saying Miranda but the chooks can squeeze through small openings, I'll have to go and check what I can do to keep them inside their part of the property. Ken, That's what Digi did before he was confined for a month. He never chased them and use to keep a watchful eye on them.

I have tried to feed him offal but he wont have a bar of it on its own. The Pet mince i get has a mix of everything in it and the meat has no preservatives . I will grab a few more bones for him this week ( the butcher loves me walking in lol) Thanks for the advice Sharon

I'm feeding RAW to my 6 month old Newfy Pup. He gets Chicken Mince (from Lenards) Chicken carcasses 3 nights a week. Tin of sardines twice a week. Pet mince whole egg 3 days a week Is there anything else I can add to give him variety and how much would you feed eg grams per day

Thanks everyone for the advice. Yesterday I actually usd a Check Chain for the 1st time with Digi. We went down stairs and every time he would try and get to the Chook Enclosure I would give a quick tug with "No, sit". I continued for a good 10 mins and will do it every day. This morning a chook was out of the enclosure (they can escape) Digi ran down and went to chase , I quickly got the check chain rattled it over the balcony and this stopped him. Like I said this is a new behaviour that's only started this week, and I think with time he will start to behave as he did before around the chooks I would never do this to any animal

My lovely newfy pup has taken to chasing my chooks and if he catchs them starts plucking the feathers out He has been around them since arriving and this is a new behaviour for him. I have now locked the chooks up but I do want to start letting them roam again. Do you think it might have been because he was confined for a month after getting a tick or are we starting to go through the naughty teens??????? Thanks in advance Sharon and her wayward Newfy Digi

Tick prevention is a must Killtix can be used on a pup 8 weeks onwards. If you are worried about snakes put your pup on a lead when you walk him/her. I like the idea of contacting the local vet for information about the area. Have fun while away, but as with anything keep vigilant. Sharon

My Newfy Pup sleeps outside on our verandah. I think it's the same reason as Cherlee stated, it's cooler. Sharon

I also have chooks, mine are free range and only go in at night. My pup 1st thought they were good toys and chased them a bit but after taking him to them on a lead and getting him to sit he now leaves them alone. What i did was get the chooks a bit ruffled so they made nosie and flapped their wings around him while he was on the lead so it was in a controlled situation. I think when a pup grows up with other animals they tend to leave them alone, I also have sheep and cows and he just sits and watches them lol. Sharon
