Indi sits on our feet when we're working in the kitchen. Right up next to the cupboards. Makes it difficult when you need to get into the cupboard but is very cute!

Hi Thanks for the replies. We have a doggy door so it's not a case of being unable to access the outside and I think I may put newspaper down - much easier to clean up! I'll clean the laundry floor with vinegar & bicarb this weekend. I don't think she's got an UTI - but I will keep an eye on her just in case. I work all day so it's a bit difficult to monitor their behaviour at this time of the year (when they just want to snuggle down in front of the heater after their evening walk). This morning I went down early to let them in, and before I let them into the house I encouraged Indi to go outside, which she was very reluctant to do (it was 5.30am so I can't blame her) and so I gave up. The dogs then snuggled with me and I put them in the laundry when I left so I'll be interested to see if she went outside after that. Thanks everyone for your input. Cheers Jane

Hi My 16 month old spayed female staffy puppy/juvenile has decided that it is OK to pee in the laundry. She is housetrained but with the recent wet weather I think she didn't want to go out in the rain (and we've had some really heavy rain) to do her business and so started going in the laundry. The dogs sleep & eat in there as well and we've managed to stop her going in the morning by putting a food bowl directly in front of the bed so that's what she smells when she gets up. However this evening she peed directly next to her food bowl, right in front of their bed. Being the laundry the floor is tiled, however I'm looking for suggestions on how I can thoroughly clean the floor this weekend and so discourage this behaviour. Obviously I clean up the messes but I use Method brand household cleaners and I'm thinking I need something with a bit more oomph. I don't want to put newspaper down as this may normalise the behaviour, but I'm thinking that might be easiest throughout winter. Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks Jane

Well, she has sailed through the surgery beautifully and I have a happy puppy once again! I am so thankful that the vet saw the urgency and acted on it.

My beautiful 6 month old staffy Indigo Georgia is today having (what is for all accounts & purposes emergency) surgery to correct her incorrectly diagnosed entropic eyelids. Poor thing. She's had ulcers for a week now with no improvement. Fortunately I tracked down a vet whose specialty is eye ailments, and who took one look and just about hit the roof. I did ask my vet (who I really like BTW) if I should consult with this specialist & the recommendation had been lets wait & see but today after the morning consult I decided to go ahead & see the specialist anyway. Thankfully they slotted me in as an emergency. Poor Indi - she was spayed last week and also has a manky ear so it's all been a bit of a bad week.

Hi Next week we are flying from Perth to Qld to pick up our new puppy. Initially the plan was to have a week's holiday at my in-laws farm and then pick the pup up, get on the plane and fly home. However there has been a change of plans and now we will be picking the pup up when we fly into Qld and the travelling to the farm and then travelling home a week later. I am extremely concerned about the pup picking up parvo and want to know what people would advise to minimise the risk of this happening. I have no idea how we will toilet the pup whilst we're travelling as it will want to explore its environment and I feel that places where we stop to let him (eg parking areas) out will be high risk areas. There is no way the breeder can hold on to the pup (they are going away) so that is not an option. Could the pup receive a parvo shot this weekened (I would have to ask the breeder to arrange this)? The pup is now 8 weeks old. Thanks for your help. Jane

What Should You Do If Your Dog Is Choking
SearchJane replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
The first two steps are all good in theory but when your dog is choking you have to act fast. When Sam was a pup he started to choke on a bit of something he was chewing on (I forget what it was). I gave him a couple of pumps around his middle (just below his ribs) with my hands and out popped the offending bit of stuff. Crisis over! -
Have just finished cleaning up Sam's kennel - airing the bedding mainly as it didn't flood, even though it's right next to a downpipe - and Sam's outside toybox (an old washing basket which I will now drill some holes in so it becomes self draining). I couldn't believe how many toys were in there! Time for a cull! We had our internal water feature come to life again. I think we will be pulling up our upstairs deck to recaulk everything, but there's not much we can do about the gutters overflowing because they can't deal with huge cloudbursts (other than putting wider gutters in). Very sad news about the windows at Winthrop Hall.

My lovely Sam (nearly 2 year old staffy), who is scared of the wind and cars when we're walking, sailed through this afternoon's massive storm. Thankfully thunder and lightning don't both him one jot. I was a bit scared, though, particularly when the bang was right on the heels of the bang! Fantastic to hear the sound of rain after so long. Cheers!

Good on you for training in public. If only more people did it. We often do sit/down + stay/wait with Sam + heeling work otherwise how else do you train your dog to obey your commands in unfamiliar surroundings?

Dog Ate Stocking... Some Advice Needed...
SearchJane replied to 5tumpy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just wait & let nature take its course. -
Change to a raw diet. Sam has goat / lamb / chicken (because he's allergic to beef) plus sweet potato (cooked). I've also given him spinach with his dinner and have been advised that broccoli & cauliflower would also be good. He gets a pinch of kelp powder most nights + fish oil caps. He has a bone 3 x per week and I vary what he has - chicken frames, goat shanks, lamb shanks, goat knuckles, mutton necks. No farting. No bad breath. Lovely poos! (He had terrible poos on the dry he was originally on). Good luck!

You're lucky that Willow doesn't have food allergies added to the mix. We've been treating our staffy (who has food + plant + other allergies) for about a year now and have seen good results from the desensitisation shots. He also has a daily antihistamine (cetrizine) + fish oil which helps the antihistamine somehow. We're without pet insurance either, thank goodness we don't have kids so we can justify the expense
