Retrieving & Field Training Talk

I have 2 dokkens, just because I'm addicted to buying dog stuff They cost around $25 each (plus postage), depending on size. I have a Pintail which measures 18" x 5", and a Chukar, which measures 11" x 3.5". -

Sorry to hear you injured yourself! Or rather the girls injuring you! Are you heading to the trial this weekend still? Do you know where it is being held yet? If it isn't too far, I was thinking of heading to it to watch and lend a hand if needed. Happy Birthday for last week, Em! Ouch, sorry it was a dokken you lost, RV. Hope your dad gets it out for you! Speaking of lost dokkens, I've misplaced my pintail. I find it hard to believe I've misplaced it because it's yuuuuuuge, but I can't find it I also ordered a new whistle, one of those Roy Gonia Mega Whistles. Is there a trick to making it work? I blow in it and nothing I feel like such a dufus asking that! -

Mine bounced off the gutter and almost landed on the roof... -
Does anyone know anybody who is looking for shared accommodation, and loves dogs? I really need to get my spare room rented out!

If you've got a dog who isn't terribly confident, I also wouldn't do see-saw or bang games on the see-saw in the same session as you do the dogwalk, regardless of height of either. After really enjoying the bang game on a very very low see-saw, Ruby had a meltdown going over a baby dogwalk when I first started her. Intense dogwalk rehab got her back over the dogwalk. Now I'm starting to teach her see-saw again (I waited til after she got her AD in the end ), and while she is in two minds about it (wants to keep playing on it, but is also a bit "stiff" in her legs as she does it), I did get her to go back over a fullsized dogwalk so I am hoping that she is finally getting confidence about discriminating the two Meanwhile, Millie is a fruit loop and goes crazy for both (and Millie is the one scared of the vacuum and lawnmower, while I practically have to drive the two over Ruby as she won't move out of the way ) -

Such gorgeous work Thanks again for the shoot!!!! :D -
There were a few other dogs there Millie didn't like one of them and took to barking at it when they passed us A couple of times :o Apart from that, my girls were beautifully behaved. Walked along with us at our very slow "tourist" pace, happily passed strangers without disturbance and even more happily wagged their bums when someone wanted to pat them. I had a few people call me beautiful which I thought was strange... til I realised they were talking about my dogs ;) Thanks for the info on the Chidlow walk. Not sure when I'll find the time to do that one But one to keep on my to-do list!! (I have a few of those that I haven't managed to scratch off yet )

Nope. Would still love one, but there are so many others things I should be spending my money on So me and the girls went to Kings Park yesterday, had a lovely walk around and admired the view of the city

That's a bit racist, isn't it? Yep I'm going, but haven't sent off my form or cheque yet.

I want to learn more of this to handle Millie. But I think the only way it's going to happen is if I go and get private lessons. I need help!! -
I like those ones as the air can pass through them and help cool them, but yes, they dry out quickly!
-
I'm looking at Occupational Therapy or Health Sciences.
-
While Millie is hotter to the touch because of her darker coat, Ruby acts like she feels the heat more than Millie. I'll need to remember to take my cool coats to trials now. I also bought a spray bottle so I can spray their faces and feet, just need to remember to put it in the car and leave it there!
-
Hush hush you people and complaining about the heat!!!! Was a glorious day yesterday, I was dressed in summer gear! But then the weather changed so suddenly I don't mind the heat if I'm not trialling - which just means they need to let us host more night time trials, who cares if it's cold at night, it's the best time for training/trialling! I went to the Curtin Uni Open Day yesterday, looking at applying for next year, very excited

My iphone almost told amypie about how great good fannies is. I meant good sammies :p

You're the one feeding Black Hawk because it's cheaper than feeding your kids Nitro!!! My girls are on Black Hawk, 2 cups a day each plus training treats and occasional extras.

Way to go, RV and Toby!!! We did Rally-O too and Millie would have passed (she just lost a few points for slow response - too damn hot to work my dogs were telling me!), but not far into Ruby's round I asked them not to bother continue scoring. I had to stop, have a game with Ruby to razz her up, then try again. Princess hates the heat  Congrats Kath and Coco!!!!!!! Wow 8 hours driving, but that pass would have made it totally worthwhile! I need to get my butt into gear and train UD more, but I'm trying to overcome the reluctance to work during the day with any sort of oomph with my two Looks like UD for me will be end of 2012 as we won't be ready to enter end of this year when we hit night time trials and I don't want to do UD in the daytime at first if I can help it
-
Ptolomy, my kids love the smaller dokken I got I can't find my pintail one though, eeek!! Those grips for the end make throwing so much easier, but my dogs return with it squinting because it's bouncing in their face!
-
I read some Facebook comments about some comments made at the show today, what happened? Congrats ST and RV! Sorry to hear about Varda, mirawee. You're not the only one whose dogs refuse to work with enthusiasm in the heat or daylight! I really need to just enter night time trials because daytime doesn't work for me too well most times. And while that can be looked at as just making excuses, I'd rather preserve my sanity and loving relationship with my dogs instead of constantly getting frustrated with them! I'm tired of being frustrated Rally-O today was horrible, both so laggy. As soon as clouds covered the sun and wind picked up to offer a bit of cool, they worked better! Sigh!!!
