Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RubyStar replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You get a chance to do gun steward duties at training days, and there is opportunity to jump on a thrower on training days, too People are more than willing to show you/explain to you what to do at a trial. You can even sit out in the field and place blinds, etc which isn't hard. I admit I am a bit afraid to be on the thrower in a trial as I am scared that it will be one too many misthrows due to my inexperience and I don't want to upset the competitors But I am gaining more experience with the thrower at training so I hope I can get the confidence to give it a go next season. -
Zippa got 2nd in CCD for her title Who came first in CCD? What about Novice? Who won UD?

Well done Ptolomy! Dogs will be dogs and it sounds like they did really well despite a few little hiccups! Does anyone have the full results of the obedience from yesterday, please?
-
Well done bedazzled!!! How did the other red kids go? Where's Ptolomy?

Wary Of A Particular Breed... Anyone Else...?

Never said the owners weren't to blame. Their owners are morons. But I am only human, doesn't make me like these dogs and I won't ever forgive their behaviour and what scars they have left on me, or their owners for being the idiots in the first place for allowing them to be outside. I would be very happy if they did not live in the neighbourhood anymore, taking their idiot owners with them, because I walk past this house twice daily to get to work and it causes me upset every time I walk past. As my first (and hopefully only) attack, I did not think I would have to carry an umbrella with me in the middle of summer in case a dog rushed me on a public street. And yes, I was wearing shorts being so hot so my leg got a nice bite. Oh, and I never mentioned the breed because it doesn't matter I do see where you are coming from, I really do Souff, but not everyone can be prepared like that nor can we expect everyone to be so dog savvy. I don't classify myself as completely stupid with dogs, nor completely savvy, but the best I could do was not run for fear of coming off worse than I did. But had that been a child, I do not expect them to have had the same sense. They would have run, and would have been hurt badly. -

Did you know that the unattended dog senses your fear? Better to keep a positive attitude when you see an unattended dog. You don't need to go near the dog, but should it come to you, then please say "G'day!". Keep positive and the dog will pick up on that vibe and is less likely to get defensive. Please don't get nervous just because a dog is unattended. Souff Which is all well and good if the dog doesn't have an aggressive nature to start with. I saw these 2 unattended dogs, tried very hard to control my fears as I know very well that dogs can pick up on it and act on it, but it does NOT excuse these dogs from attacking me (and for the record, I stood still, did not try to run, so they only bit me the once as I approached (on the opposite side of the road) and then just stood there snarling at me baring teeth - had I run, I would have been far worse off). Since then I have been EXTREMELY nervous around unattended dogs (there are quite a few in my street) and none have tried attacking me because it wasn't in their nature - if anything, it just made them curious about me. Some people are just naturally afraid of dogs and they cannot help their feelings when approached by dogs they don't know, and that should never excuse a dog for its actions related to that persons fears. -

I am just wary of any medium to large dogs that are wandering by themselves or are left in unsecured front yards with no owner in sight. After being bailed up by 2 barking/snarling unattended dogs in a front yard across the road and bitten by one of them, a dog of any description with no owner around makes my heart race and my legs turn to jelly. -
I think if I enter the Royal again, it will be for agility before obedience Only because it matters more in obedience when they get distracted! (at least for me it does), and my kids are sure to get distracted!

I thought you said no more dogs, amypie :p

I really liked where the new agility/obedience ring is setup– if I'm not competing, that is It was a great spot for some really great exposure for our sports instead of being tucked away in the corner where only people coming and going out of that entrance really saw us. But because it was such a high traffic area, my dogs would no way cope with that level of distraction (read lack of distraction proofing in my training ) Loved the atmosphere as a spectator (went to watch agility yesterday, and reeeeaaaally want to be there today to watch obedience but alas, I have to work ) I did notice that the crowds were drawn to the agility yesterday while the breed showing ring was a little empty. But even though I find obedience interesting to watch, I'd be interested to find out if it pulls a similar crowd to agility yesterday. As agility is so fast paced it is an interesting spectator sport, while obedience isn't as interesting to watch if you don't know what is going on. And to keep this semi on track with the show ring where this thread was posted, good luck to all the exhibitors this week! :D

Just in case there's the slightest possibility..... Does anyone have a single Royal ticket spare for Tuesday or Wednesday that could use a new home? Thanks
-
Some really great work there!! Good girl Kenzie :D
-
Good luck in obedience tomorrow those who are competing! Watched the agility today for a bit and oh my what tough conditions with the crowd so close and the kiddy rides!!! There is NO WAY Millie wouldn't suffer stage fright. It is a GREAT spot for exposure for our sports but I am glad I didn't enter this year Really would love to be coming to watch obedience tomorrow, but some of us have to work Stupid public holiday moving on us

Well done ness and Kenzie!!!!!! Yep where's the video!!! :D
-
Well done bedazzled and team! But you guys stole our team name!

OK come to think of it, Millie is a bit of a girl's blouse. She screamed in absolute pain with a look of terror in her eyes that will haunt me to the day I die - when she had bloods taken She did her hurt paw at agility practice once when weaving and the scream was awful I can't remember Ruby sustaining an injury where she just screamed in pain. The injuries she has sustained have been done in silence and then she showed some discomfort, or in the case of her getting bitten and then swelling up like a balloon, there was no noise of pain, just this insane urge to bite at where she got bitten.

I drove past the big grand opening at Bunnings tonight about 6pm and there were people EVERYWHERE The carpark was full so there were families parking at the shopping centre across the road and walking across. I didn't realise the opening of a new Bunnings was such an event Being so close to kennel zones, the grand opening could have been just as "grand" with all the other activities without fireworks to spook the poor dogs

Gee, must just be the boys, then I can't say my girls carry on if they are hurt. They are almost apologetic to me if I step on them or something, giving me big sloppy kisses to apologise for getting in my way Poor Gibbs! Hugs to him!! CC, sorry to hear about your cats. I hope a nice solution is sorted for them that makes everyone happy

I think if your heart says yes, then go for it ;) But I'm just giving advice I rarely follow myself My head always rules my heart on most occasions, including new puppy arrivals and in most things in life.

He is incredibly gorgeous! If only I could own a farm full of many, many breeds!!
-
Poor Gibbs I hope his surgery goes well today Give him a hug for me!
-
Good girl Sascha!!!

Same! I wasn't ready to compete at the last Nationals and they were right on our doorstep! Loved the atmosphere of it though so I'm glad I came to watch - just would have been better if I could have been competing! But with the cost of flying 2 adult Labradors, I don't think I'll be planning any dog related sporting getaways that involve a plane ride in the near future!

Hell no My 10 year was a few years back, wouldn't go near it even if I was married to a famous spunky millionaire and became a supermodel myself
