  1. Millie got a pass today in the Retrieving Ability Test for Gundogs :)
  2. I know where there are some beautiful Golden Retriever puppies RS. Only 12 days old ATM. I can just see you with a Goldy !!! I didn't mean I need that 3rd dog right now! I change my mind about breeds almost as often as I change my underwear! I want a dog that has lots of get up and go. My two girls just don't have enough of that for me. Training becomes a chore when they don't jump around wanting more. Maybe they are thinking they want a handler with more get up and go!! If anyone can help me solve my problem of Millie jumping throughout my car (from the back to the back seats and front seats) I am all ears! I am really getting fed up with it. I can't get a cargo barrier professionally installed because I have airbags in the back which prevents a cargo barrier being legally installed. I'm not sure how to rig up a cargo net either. I'm at my wits end with it!!!
  3. Ruby is halfway through her 19 weeks course. After that, she moves to monthly injections that I do at home. Can't wait to not have to drive to the vet twice on a Friday! And I'm sure she will be glad to not have to go anymore. She starts looking a bit sad at me when they lead her off out the back! I don't think she'll ever be "immune" but it should hopefully make her reactions less severe. If I can just give her AH's if she gets stung and is all good, then that's a win for me! Too many bee allergic dogs! Argh! Glad Gibbs is ok :) I was doing some training in the backyard this evening and Ruby dropped her ball by my feet on the pavement. I looked down to see a bee crawling on the pavement right next to the ball Screamed at Ruby to leave it as she went to pick the ball back up, then I stomped the living daylights out of the bugger. Checked her mouth and I didn't see a stinger and she didn't react like she was stung, so I think it missed her, but I gave her a couple of AH's just to be sure. Not that AH's really help at this stage... I was basically told not to bother with them.... but I thought I would anyway
  4. I'm thinking I need a 3rd dog! I have Pippa staying with me and my girls for a week and she fits in just so well. The 3 of them are laying in a row by the heater at the moment She knows what this training thing is all about too, her lungs told me so this afternoon! When it wasn't her turn, she barked (or is that squeaked?) the back door down I also have a few Pippa sized holes in the backyard to go with the Millie sized ones At least they keep each other entertained while Ruby gets to snooze the day away in the house :p
  5. Great that you have found the puppy a home you feel good about! Very lucky family
  6. Sleepy, sleepy Perth Still, Perth is a great place :) I have a house guest for a week And as possession is nine tenths of the law.... good luck in getting Pippa back, mum
  7. It's not so bad, especially when competitors realise misthrows happen and we're not doing it on purpose Beats having to juggle 3 birdies in one hand, plus gun, plus returning the lead! I have tiny hands! My little finger did take a beating, though, no matter which way I tried putting my hand, the clip kept springing back to get me, ouch!!
  8. Most pleasures cost money and time I'm afraid. You could spend heaps of money on regularly going out to dinner, nightclubs, clothes, shoes, booze, cigarettes, golf, movies etc etc. Everything is relative, and we choose dog sports. The days of having retrieving trials close to Perth are sadly gone, and yes it takes dedication to the sport to keep at it, but as RS knows, you get hooked and you and the dogs enjoy it so much. I sometimes think, what would I do without retrieving ? Maybe obedience, but I find that boring, agility ? hmm hours and hours of training and no equipment handy to practice with. Tracking, yep can do that, sortof. At least the retrieving has me and the dogs out in the fresh air. We have fun, they love it; I love seeing them work; and most of the people involved in the sport are good mates. BTW Rubystar you did good yesterday !!! Yep it's all relative except I don't smoke, don't go out to dinner, rarely drink, so I don't have much to compare the relative spending with I wouldn't like to think how much money I've spent over the years on training, seminars, trialling, equipment, etc etc!! But I do it cos I love it and the dogs are my fun outlet :D My first time solo on a thrower yesterday so I was a bit scared.... pleased to say I only had one misthrow the entire day.... not so pleased to say that it had to be for your run!!! :o And congrats on your 3rd place!!
  9. Yep you can count a whole day out plus petrol for retrieving. Sometimes I wish I didn't enjoy it do much cos I can't afford the time or money these days with study!
  10. Well done to everyone on their latest brags, that is awesome!! Big congrats to biker girl! Way to go!!
  11. That's understandable, and I forgot about you and RV entering to boost numbers last time so that is why numbers seem lower this time I guess. I am just generally disappointed in lack of participation as a whole, and that is not directed at any certain individuals in the slightest for why they can or can't enter, just a general about it. A bit like a sport dying out before it takes off. I get the impression that numbers in the eastern states have been good, it's just a shame WA don't have the numbers. I really like how the Retrieving Club are allowing NFC entries for dogs who have their title and want to stay down a level. I wonder if at any point in the future NFC might be offered for non-papered dogs. Millie would luuuuuurve that!!!
  12. Absolutely gorgeous new addition, Horty!!! Congrats :D As MG said, the RATG is on the same day as the MPW. I'm disappointed by the entry numbers for the RATG this time, it looks like we lost some There are only 6 entries in novice, and 2 of them are mine, and 1 is MG's. Quite sad, really I can see that the clubs won't put any more on as it is not worth their time and effort for only 6 novice entrants (3 in open). Such a shame for those unpapered gundogs just itching to retrieve, and for newbies coming up that want to dip their toe in before committing to a real trial. I'm gonna hit up every gundog owner I see at other trials to get them involved!!
  13. She's my mums favourite :D I was late for work 4 out of 5 days this week because of the little cherubs - I just couldn't put them down...... She's my favourite too :D And noticed there were many shots of her so it explains it that she's your mum's favourite!
  14. Ditto. Let us know how she gets on Can't believe how quiet the WA thread has been! I guess the main gasbaggers have all been busy, then?
  15. Good luck with that handful What colours? The embarrassing part is I did do that. I have all the retrieving trials listed in my calendar (which automatically gets sent to my iphone), plus any obedience/agility/rally-o I might want to do. But this one slipped through the cracks, it wasn't in my diary because I lost the club trial schedule Oh well! My next trial is on the 27th, and on the 20th we have another RATG :) I might have to miss the trial after it though, as I have an exam the day after so I should study for it instead of having fun What about the long weekend trial Rubystar ? Do you feel like going camping ? Actually, they have three bedrooms in the house at Mogumber which people can put their hand up for. Nice & close to shower and toilet and kitchen, and out of the rain/wind etc. The Novice on that weekend may not have enough entries to run it, and even restricted might be battling. I wasn't going to enter "the idiot" but may do so now, just to boost the numbers in restricted. That's the one where I have an exam in the holiday Monday so should be at home studying that weekend I'll give you my GRC entry on Sunday!
  16. Awesome news, Tiggy! Where was he found?
  17. Mmmm I am hoping Waldo will be ready by then-I better get my act in gear as I have NO excuse now. (DD was married 28.4 so my excuse is on her honeymoon) You can do it Sue :D And someone better get it on video for us! I wanna see the cutie Waldo strutting his stuff!!!

  19. I'm sorry to hear that you have no news on Buster Does anyone have their Canine News handy? Can anyone please tell me who is judging UD at the upcoming Rottii club obedience trial? Thanks!!!
  20. Well done TSD and Em! Sounds like a fantastic weekend!!! Good girl Em on your 4th place and another finished trial to tick off the QND progress list No retrieving for me this weekend, this dope forgot to get the entry in Bummed about it but we went and gave Rally-O a go instead (and got 4 passes between the dogs, woohoo!) Hi Lesli, do you have photos of your game bags? I could be very interested! :) but I'm not sure what you mean about pockets for two thrower aerials? Are they game bags for the handler?
  21. Not Brookie's fault he got 90 today! He can blame the handler this time Today Ruby got a 99 in Rally (one slow sit, which was actually a front that I messed her up on, so asked for it again so she took longer to sit). Millie was still being weird like yesterday, not wanting to be there, but I got her round with some hard work from me. Blow me down, we got a perfect 100 Got 3rd place, beaten in time! What I've noticed by watching the rings is where a LOT of people are losing points on, is tight lead. This can be easily avoided by working with the dog! I saw soooooo many people whizz around their turns, leaving the dogs in their dust, and of course tightening that lead. Millie was being painful but I slowed it down and got her turning with me and ensured we got no tight lead.
  22. Yep. Even though I was raised with small dogs (yorkie, maltese, silky) I became a "big dog" person when I got my Labs. Didn't like mini schnauzers when my parents mentioned they were getting one. Then they bought her home, and now I'm absolutely smitten with her! Smart, energetic, cheeky little buggers!
  23. Congrats TSD and Em!! I guess I better jump on the Rally-O brag bandwagon since WA have finally had their first trial! Ruby scored a perfect 100, but still didn't place 4 of us scored 100 and Ruby and I were the slowest by about 8 seconds I think :) Millie also got a pass with a score of 91, but she was totally not with it today, having to call for 2 retries on course and got pinged for 3 tight leads. We have some other WA DOLer brags for Rally-O
  24. I read it as a bee sting is classed as an accident, not a condition in their PDS, so that is why I was paid out for her reaction to the sting in Feb. I'm guessing that now I am hitting them up for quite a sum, they are going to pull it out of their bum that its a pre-existing condition now (and yes, I switched insurers after her first possible bee sting as a pup was logged on file). My argument is that if its a pre-existing condition, then why did they pay me for her last reaction? And I clarified with them on the phone twice before I proceeded with the specialist that do they pay for specialist fees, yada yada, yes of course was their answer, and assured I "should" get it back if I've been paid for that condition prior. So it's all just up in the air. It's a lot of money. Soooo many things I deny myself, yet no hesitation to spend $5.5k on the dog
