A very interesting topic, what a great read! I've been nudged by a couple of trainers to enter Ruby into her first obedience trial, just to see how we go as she can work quite well, but I don't feel she's ready as her focus isn't what it should be during heelwork. After reading this thread and a few others over the past few days, I've started working hard on her focus and will continue to do so and hold off on entering our first trial until I'm happy this has picked up somewhat! I know I am going to have to just take the plunge eventually otherwise I'll forever hold off due to my nerves!!

Wow, that was amazing AND comical at the same time! I couldn't quite work out if the dog had a problem with its leg or if that's just his heeling style! Very impressive though

Will try this over the weekend! Though I know now the only chance we have of this one working is using the signal and command as Ruby has only been retrieving for a few months now. Took me ages to teach her to hold the damn thing But the rest fell into place after that!

Just tried twice with Ruby. Both times, came and sat at heel position and looked up at me like "what?"

I'll try this tomorrow! My guess is that Ruby will come and sit about 9 or 10 o'clock looking at me. She's a Lab, 22 months old, obedience trained since a pup with food rewards, and just about ready for CCD (once I improve the focus she's there I think, yes I know, a big part of it!! And my confidence needs an up, too!!!)

Damn it! I got all excited, thinking this was a thread giving tips on how to get the focus at the starting peg! No need to give it a go, big fat fail for us!
