Thanks, but I have had a little whisper in his ear and asked him not to be in such a big hurry to get to restricted. We still have things to work on. There are 4 more trials after that one on the 24th, so heaps of time to come and watch before end of season. -

Next Retrieving (novice/restricted) is on 24th July and being held at Beverley, see you there? -
I only say “largest” to illustrate that they are the ones with the pups, and so if I don’t take one from there it is hard to find another in WA. The whole purpose of my thread is to get other recommendations because this large breeder has such a bad rep in these forums. So why you would say “if you like their stock go buy it” is beyond me?(Although having said that, NOBODY has offered any concrete criticism against this breeder. Except that their dogs don’t look like flatcoats.) There is one other breeder in WA who will have some pups in a few months, so I’m happy to go there, but again I’m just not sure if the “go East” message applies to them also? I have one from the breeder your talking about and I could have imported 3 dogs for the money I have spent on her due to bad breeding. Just as well I love her to bits, because she is my walking retirement fund. I ended up importing a dog, so that should tell you something.

Maybe you should ask how many litters that bitch has had in the last 3 years, good starting point. Have you also asked about the hip scores?

Coco’s CAWA papers say different! Not much good since I live in WA (see thread title.) Sorry but if Coco's is a Liver Flatcoat her CAWA registrations papers will state that her colour if Liver, certainly not chocolate. Breed standard states "Black or Liver" are the accetable colours. While we do sometimes get yellows, they are put on the limited register as you cant show them nor breed from them. If you are interested in a "good" flatcoat then I would suggest you look outside the state and the Flat Coated Retriever Association in Victoria is a good starting point.

You are 100% correct Flatchat, I have 3 LIVER flatcoats they sure are not chocolate. A very nice dark LIVER just the way I love them.

Just thought I would let you know that Trackwest will be holding a field day for beginners before the season starts again next year, been in March on previous years. It will be advertised on their website, so would advise any one interested in seeing how their dog will go, this would be a great day to attend.

Tracking Training In Sydney
Livertreats replied to Kernos's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Here is the link to the NSW Tracking club, hope that helps http://www.trackingclubnsw.org.au/ -
Practially any harness, but Trackwest have a supply of them and lead for purchase. Just need to allow the dog to be able to move freely and nothing tight around their necks are the best.
-
There is no obedience requirement, as it is all done on lead. You need a harness, 10 - 15 metre long lead, old dark colour socks (articles) which get scent up and this is what you use to scent the dog to the person they are following and they must find them on the track as well. Also flags to mark the tracks for training only.

Hi, The Tracking Club of Rockinham is part of the SES so yes they go and find lost people. Trackwest starts back about the 2nd week of April and finish at the end of September. They have a couple of trainers who take the begineers so dont worry about being new. One of the best things I have ever done with my dogs, we love it.
