Can anyone offer me advice with Ruby's teeth this morning? Yesterday arvo when I got home she was really sooky and wasn't interested in going for a walk. She slept all afternoon then around dinner time I noticed that she was dribbling quite alot and her drool was blood coloured. Took a quick look in her mouth which she wasn't happy about - usually lets me look in her mouth easily. All of her front teeth were bleeding. I gave her soft food for dinner because I thought they would be paining her and froze an facewasher in beef stock for her to have a chew/lick on to see if would help releive her teeth - she wasn't interested. This morning her teeth are still bleeding a fair bit and her breath is HORRIBLE!!! (from the blood?) she's still lethargic and not interested in anything much.. She's not yet 18 months old and I wouldn't have thought she would be having dental problems just yet. Has she just hurt her front teeth on a stick/old bone she was probably chewing on or is it something more that will require a vet visit? I thought that if she'd hurt her mouth yesterday with a stick/bone it would have gotten better overnight but it hasn't really. I feel bad for her cos I don't know what she's done to her teeth?! It's hard taking wood away from her because she just gnaws on her wooden kennel if we don't put sticks there for her to chew. Would pictures help if I can get some?

My Wei was a dreadful puller on the lead - I taught her how to do that from a very early age *bangs head on wall* I still have issues with it now but to a much less degree.. qw did the old zig-zag method. When the walk first starts I find her pulling much more so than when I have let her off lead and she does zoomies around the park. Once she's got a bit of her energy off she walks much more nicely..

I have this problem with our dog. I walk on a flat collar and normal length lead. I try to be aware of my surroundings - if people with dogs are coming or runners etc. I will generally walk off the path a bit and get her to sit. I repeat 'Leave it' and she will mostly wait at my side. Like you, my dog thinks that everyone loves her.. The problem isn't really fixed as such that we can continue our walk normally if people and dogs walk past. It just means that she isn't lunging at them to get to them. I presume once she gets old and cranky this will pass..

I've got the Olympus MJU waterproof for 3m. I have never used it for underwater snorkelling yet (just at the beach swimming) and the pictures it took are fine. It works well if your not up for paying thousands.

Prunes? (I don't know if dogs can have them) Pumpkin? I'd like to see what other say too..

Aims.. it will just take patience. You are doing all the right things and I think Ruby is VERY lucky to have you as her mama. When our girl was little I would clap if I seen her going inside then straight outside and heaps of praise even though the mess was inside. I used some white viniger diluted with water on patches of the carpet where she had been to neutralize the smell so that she wouldn't smell her own urine there and go again. Old wives tale? We are 10 months now and we still have the occasional (maybe once every month) accident inside when we aren't watching close enough. These accidents are our fault and not that she's not toilet trained. Maybe if Ruby isn't a big barker you could train her to ring a bell and go outside when she needs to?

I agree with poodlefan.. they'd have to get it everytime for either the E-collar or the citronella to work. Unfortunately a dog that chases cars has a limited life.. it'll be only too soon before something happens and the poor dog is killed. I think building a dog run would be their only option if they can't secure the dog in the yard. Our kelpie x was killed when a ute he was chasing slammed on the breaks and our dog ran straight into the back of it. Freak accident, that could have been prevented.

Thanks for the great tips.. I think I'm just too boring for her. LOL I usually say Ah-Ah when she moves out of line and this will steady her. I'll work on some of the things you have told me and see how this goes with it. I will try building up the focused heeling hopefully it will be excellent in no time at all! thanks guys..

My 10 month Weim is becoming better with her offlead heeling - I use the command steady and point at my side. I am not looking for obedience level heeling with focus, I just want it so that I can have her walk beside me when I need her to. The problem I am having is that she needs me to repeat the command ALOT. Otherwise she will wander away or think that I have released her. How can I break this repetition of the command so that I only need to say it one or two (?) times when she is heeling.

There's a special tinned food you can buy called ID or something.. when our puppy had haem gastro she had to have 2 tins of this a day before going to chicken and rice. -
Elizabethan Collars And Leaving A Dog Alone Wearing One

can you get a new tightly fitting shirt and put that on him so that he won't be able to get to the area? Would be pointless if he's going to rip it off though.. -
My 10 month old Wei started acting a bit like this over the last couple of weeks. We figured out that she is deathly scared of blowflies buzzing past. As soon as one would buzz around she'd be darting for the door trying to get out. She's getting better with them though. Hope your boy calms down soon..

Help - Blood And Runny Poo - All Better Now
:ange: replied to benny123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Our girl has just come out of having a moderate bout of haemorrhagic gastroenteritis. She had to be hospitalised for 2 days with it. She wasn't eating or drinking, lethargic, temperature etc. haem gastro isn't something that you can stick around and 'wait and see' because they dehydrate very quickly (especially puppies). Like everyone said.. just watch them and if you have the slightest feeling that things aren't right take them to your vet! The vet had her on antibiotics and anti-ulcer medication to stop the bleeding, no food for 2 days and then a special ID diet for 3 days. Her bowels still aren't 100% right a week later, but we've just got her on a bland diet adding a few dry biscuits in the last few days. hope your puupies get back to normal soon!! -
Gosh I would love to go to this.. but.. I don't think our heel OR recall would be sufficent enough for a day like that. I'm not sure the OH would agree to something like this either LOL It's nice to dream..

I haven't read everyone's replies so I might be repeating.. I took Ruby to PPS when she was 12 weeks old (Terrorbull I know your from Orange.. you didn't take over our class so I'm assuming it wasn't you!!) I didn't enjoy it all that much to be honest. I basically went to get Ruby socialisation with other puppies. Over the 4 weeks ***** socialization course (which cost $50) the pups got to play - that is be near each other - only twice. The rest of the time we had to have them sitting on their mats quiety while we listened to the trainer rattle on about what was right and was was wrong about raising a dog - to quote - "I will remove the dog from you if I ever see you using a choke chain on them". I was thoroughly annoyed.. Trying to keep a puppy quiet (especially a Weimaraner) for an hour was just too much to ask for. All they wanted to do was play! Glad when the 4 weeks were over. What I thought would have been better - more interaction.

In Hospital W/ Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis
:ange: replied to :ange:'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
we most certainly won't be doing the proheart 12 next year again.. yesterday I had no intention of getting it. I enquired about treatments and unfortunately that's what I ended up with. What I should have said was "Wait.. just let me go home, check DOL and I'll get back to you" I'm what salespeople dream of.. -

Thanks Loraine for the info.. that was pretty much the same site I was on (same info anyway).. cheers, you guys are just so helpful!!! Belljari: The vet assured me that it wasn't a reaction from the heartworm jab.. but you know.. they didn't tell me that there were risks in taking this jab. I nearly died when I saw it. The cause of this disease is again unknown (as is with everything with Ruby apparently) so there is no way of knowing what it is that is causing this. I have to go in again in the morning at 9.30am and see how she's going. I guess her symptoms fit the bill for HGE.. I'm just not 100% of it is all. Then again, I'm no vet. -
I posted a few days ago about my 9 month old Weim coming down with an exacerbation of HOD.. Yesterday she had picked up so much, almost getting back to her normal self. We had taken her to the vets about some patchy fur (? allergies) and to get a bit of a check-up about a few things and to say ta-ta to everyone down there as we're moving soon (I was hoping it was our last visit). Came home from work this afternoon and she was walking really awkwardly - like she was trying to sit down but it hurt. I put it down to the HOD but then I noticed all around her anal area that there was black (what looked like poo) I already had a feeling.. I got a wet wipe and wiped it and it was dried blood. I scouted around the backyard but couldn't see any bloody poos. We went to bed for about an hour then she jumped up and scooted on the bed and left a bloody trail.. I was horrified. Straight outside were she strained and blood just came out with mucous? Rang the afterhours vet and they told me to take her straight down. Did a rectal exam which was bloody and Ruby cried, which made me cry.. She was starting to look a fair bit brighter yesterday and today she nosedived.. lethargic, temperature. The diagnosis is Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis.. (yes on top of the HOD). Has anyone's dogs had this? I've done a bit of research and.. well I trust my vet I'm just not sure about this one. I haven't seen her vomit.. I have been at work all day so it is a possibility. (She got her first Proheart 12 injection yesterday as well - which I am learning NOW that wasn't such a good idea)

really happy to hear of others who have HOD puppys and are going strong now still past 6 years.. I wasn't sure exactly how the HOD would shorten lifespan.. We used to feed her Advance large breed puppy but we've switched to the adult all breed. She was diagnosed with X-ray as well. The Previcox worked really well last night, but by this morning she is back to crying again.. it's a daily dose so I've just given her second and hopefully it has the same response it did last night. It's a shit of a condition to watch them suffer like this.. it really is. Today is day 4 of our flare and I honestly hope that it doesn't last much longer.

NO she isn't on antibiotics this time around.. The fever is caused from the pain with the inflammatory response.. She was last time on a broad spectrum. We are hoping this is her last flare of the HOD being 9 months.. and the only thing you can really do for it, is to effectively manage the pain for her. We are just not managing it quite so well this time. Thanks for the link Lab..
