  1. I had a skinny dog which I tried everything for, many different premium foods, lamb flaps, satin balls, barf. She would only ever eat a portion of her RDI. When she did eat more due to the yummiest of what was on offer she would occasionally vomit it back up. I had the best success with a premium dry food for sensative stomach. Everytime I offered something else it put right back of her food. Increasing her appetitie did not happen straight away but eventually she maintained a good weight with good eating habits.
  2. Some people also feel puppies relate you cleaning up their mess as a nuturing jesture. A bitch will always clean up her puppies mess (up to a certain age).
  3. I wash my show boy weekly and he still never gets a flea. I always apply advocate atleast 2 days before a bath and atleast 1 day after one.
  4. I would not take a pup into public areas until it is fully vaccinated (4days or so after 3rd vacination). However puppy preschool is fine and if you have friends that have clean, safe backyards that you know the history on. I still take a young pup out but will carry it and not let it down, too big of a risk for me. Some vets will give a C5 (with the nasel spray) at 12 weeks this only takes 2 days to be fully effective so this may be another option.
  5. agree lamb or brisket not marrow bones. As for age I do find after about 3 days the colour of the bone changes and it seems to be alot harder. I remove them at this point and replace with a fresh one. I do not want to risk a chipped tooth, that or I am paranoide
  6. I use advocate and have never had an issue. Never any sign of worms in my dogs and have never ever seen a flea in my house. I personally would not use anything else after one of my dogs picked up sarcoptic mange from a park in a rural area years and years ago. I also have a dog prone to ear troubles so knowing I never have ear mites is one less thing to worry about.
  7. I guess it depends on where your dog goes and what other dog's it socialises with.
  8. I would treat with Advocate at 12 weeks just incase your puppy has picked up some mites.
  9. I have not read everyones comments but some real estate agents have rules that state no dogs are allowed inside regardless. If they have said you can have it in the laundry I would not be to faised. Maybe let the dog in to have some quite time with you then back outside. Just dont abuse it, monitor the dog inside and ensure it does not disgrace itself with chewing or jumping on walls etc. Make it lay down quitely with you then back out. Also keep your dog very clean so there is no doggy smell in the house!!!
  10. Have you considered a mild case of sarcoptic mange (scabies)? They love humans more then dogs and would explain you not being able to see them! If it is extremely mild you may not yet see a skin irration and also due to the young age of the pup. Advocate treats this but can not be used until the pup is 12 weeks, maybe have a chat with your vet. EDIT TO ADD: if it is and you get a postitive skin scrapping I would take your whole family into the doctors to be treated also.
  11. Do your research but I would not go on hearsay. Query the breeder directly.
  12. I would get a further examination by your or another vet first. But if you continue with Scourban treatment I would keep her on protexin, rather then switch foods around too much and upset her belly even more maybe switch to a sensative stomach version of advance, this may be a bit more gentle for her (though not sure how that would go being a puppy, she really should be on puppy food). Also when was she last wormed and has she been wormed regulary? As she has an upset tummy a strong wormer may upset her more so you may have to start her off on something a bit weaker and build her up to a broad spectrum wormer (a facel sample will be able to answer this for you though).
  13. I have a litter I am waiting to test but have been told over 6 weeks is more preferable as there is less contamination from the bitch.
  14. Make it fun! Play a game along the way, take treats and make sure you don't go too far. Maybe she is doing it to get a reaction from you.. ie asking her to heal? that may be more fun then just walking....
  15. YUP white vinegar and bicarb are great. Just a thought please ensure all chemicals even if they are in sealed containers are taken out even if they are up high they can be knocked down and cupboards and under sink cupboards can come open.
  16. Could of something happened to her when she got out or could she of eaten something? How long was she out for?? Ring the vet back up in the morning, if you are still feeling fluttery write a list before you call so you don't forget anything and write down the answers. You need to find out what the vet thinks may of caused this and you will need to help him diagnose by letting them know what she could of been exposed too. Good luck for your little one and lots of prayers.
  17. Please also remember that she currently has open holes in her mouth. Though she will need all soft food for the next few days to a week you will need to ensure it will not go gluggy and fill these holes. You should be able to give her tablets by opening her mouth by slipping your fingers on either side of the canine teeth (think thats what they are are called, the long ones - if they are still there) and just slip the tablet straight up the middle of her mouth. Make sure you push it right in as you dont want to be have a few attempts with her mouth sore. I have just had an 8yr done and her teeth were not so flash. She is once again eating dry food no worries. She was also only given antibiotics & antiinflamatories. Also she did not eat for 24hrs after her anesthetic but it did hit her pretty hard and she did alot of sleeping. Good luck, she will be back to normal soon!
  18. Agree sound like she needs 'her own space' and does not know where to lay down. Either giver her a quite room where she can have time out when she starts whinging or crate her.

    Demodectic Mange

You should see improvement immediately (ie no more spreading). Within a week it should be healing up with hair growing back over the next week or so. I have successfully treated demodex with dectomax injections once a week for six weeks. If it is a very mild case and its not spreading it is best to let the dog heal naturally and not treat with chemicals however if it is spreading, causing discomfort or at risk of becoming infected I would not hesitate to treat with chemicals. Most cases of demodex in pups is juvenille only so yes they will out grow it and it should not be an issue later in life, however some genetic cases will reoccur throughout life (there is normally an underlying health issue in these cases and the demodex is just a secondary symptom). For ongoing maintenance until the pup as matured you can treat with advocate fortnightly which can of course be changed to monthly once the pup is older. OT I know... but I would not be put off by chemicals in dry food. These companies do not put 'nasty' chemicals in, though people are right there would be chemicals present just like in human processed food. If I had the time I would love to feed my dogs a home made 'organic' diet however I would first have this analysed to ensure it is nutritionally balanced. EDIT TO ADD: Yes I would take your pup back to the vet if he is having other outbreaks.
  20. Good to hear your girl is back to normal
  21. It is very easy to treat and then maintain if it is ongoing. Though most cases are juvenile only. PM me if you would like to more about treatment. EDIT to add: As for ongoing low immunity this will depend on what has caused the drop in immunity. If the pup has genetic low immunity yes it is comprised and stress may bring on another bout of demodex. If it has been caused by an environmental factor (my girl got it as a reaction to her vaccination) the immunity would obviously bounce back once the cause is removed.
  22. agree lots of short sessions. Lots of cuddles and LOTS of treats. Make him want to hop on the grooming table! Slowly make sessions longer and don't force him into positions he does not like until he is ready. He will eventually lay down for you, he just needs to relax
  23. Just wondering if there are any pro club members here? Could someone please PM me. Thanks
