  1. I was thinking about you today CL and now I read this. I am so sorry, we couldnt have our girls in pain and suffering could we. Sleep peacefully Sassie and hugs to you CL
  2. What a wonderful age for a sweet girl.A lot caring on your part as well to get her that far. RIP Miss Ricky.
  3. Poor little baby, Fly free Little Spike.Have a happy birthday WendyH. Sounds like you did all you could for Spike. It just wasn't to be.
  4. I agree with PF. A young dog loosing weight like that needs a vet visit asap. Take it from me I have lost my old cat & dog both in the last four weeks(one to cancer the other to heart probs) and the first sign something was wrong with both was weight loss. Pity they cant tell us how they feel!
  5. You are a good mum. Just be careful he doesn't hurt himself when getting of the bed.

I,m so sorry you lost Jay Jay.
  7. Today Sophie went over the bridge, the last 4 weeks she had been unwell and life got to hard. The vet said she had Dilated Cardiomyopathy. Sophie would have been 14 this September, a great age for a GSD. I,ll miss you my big black girl, always so serious and trying to do the right thing. You where a good girl Sophie. When I think of you it will be of you with your bad hip jumping around like a puppy at the age of 13. You never did that as a youngster! Your beautiful coat was still like black velvet.Goodbye my old friend. Gone to be with her mate Carla. Sophie 30-9-1997 - 27-5-2011 A Life Well Lived
  8. You are fortunate in that Buddy is still eating. The leg problem you can work with and help him around if needs be.My girl has stopped eating, but still drinking water. She is getting no better, just holding her own and sleeping a lot.I am giving her one more day and then I will call the vet.
  9. My girl Sophie,s time is drawing near I am afraid. She hasn't been very well since her last cartrophen injection 3 weeks ago, she vomited and had trouble swallowing food for a few days. That resolved itself but her appetite has gone and she has lost interest in food. She still drinks water and toilets herself but rejects all food except raw eggs! Today I feed her a tin of SD ad wet food. I did notice she was breathing heavier than normal prior to the injection.I took her back to the vet who said she had a rapid heart beat and to take her off Prolet medication. Six years ago she had her spleen removed with a stage 2 Hemangisarcoma. My vet thinks the cancer may have appeared elsewhere. Sophie is now 13.7 year old and I think for a GSD that is a pretty good innings. She is sleeping on her bed in my bedroom now, she is in no pain at all. But sometime in the few days I will have to make that decision.Blast old age!
  10. I believe if you have the property owners permission to shoot on his land then you can discharge a firearm. Any animal that mauls and kills sheep will not stop.I remember a few years ago a dog I knew was involved in sheep attacks by a group of pet dogs. The property owner shot the dogs and delivered their collars back to the owners. There was nothing the dog owners could do about it. Recently our neighbors lost sheep to wild dogs. The Lands Board set traps and two wild dogs where caught and culled. I asked the neighbor what would have happened if it was domestic dogs and she said the Council Ranger would be called and the dogs dealt with by them.

    Rapigel

Rubiton, How is the Rapid Gel going... on the dog I mean??
  12. I have two gsd,s who spend 80% of the time inside. The do not smell, I have had plenty of comments on that fact but my long coat sheds hair like crazy. I have an all tile floor, with heaps of mats in winter. I regularly brush them with a furminator to remove loose hair. I totally agree with Poodlefan in that an outside dog stinks more and gets fleas. In fact I have proven that theory. I have a friend with 2 Beagles, inside dogs mainly and they stink to high heaven!
  13. It defiantly makes them (or you if you take it) hungrier. I have had experience with it personally and with my dog.
  14. Why dont you contact a few stock agents in the area who use the sale yards or around Tamworth. They are very knowledgeable men when it comes to who lives where and who does what. They always have their ear to the ground so to speak!
  15. I,ve got a long coat and she manages fine. I have a furminator comb and use that each spring and summer, to get her undercoat hair out. I dont believe in shaving them, I reckon it wrecks the coat. Plenty of hose downs or by the aircon on hots days. The panting thing you will grow used to, believe me. Its not only long coats that do it, my normal coat girl does it as well!
  16. I wouldn't bath her just yet. If she is smelly rub some conditioner in to her coat and give her a good brush. It isn't a week yet so I would take it easy.
  17. I crush Sophie's glucosamine tab & Prolet tab together and put it in a bowl milk nightly. It solved our problem. She has been a finicky eater from the day I got her 13 and half years ago. She even gets up and walks away with a look like "are you trying to poison me" I take the bowl and put it away for an hour. I discovered early on she is a late night eater where as my other dog is ready around 5-6pm. . PS The cartrophen injections really do make a difference. Sophie has them monthly now. Them and the anti inflammatory keep her moving and pain free.
  18. Just wait till winter comes, a kitten knows how to get warm. We weren't always this friendly
  19. I think you should have supervised times together until the kittens? get bigger. You said kittens! I,d say keep an eye on them together seeing you have only had him 5 weeks. Did he mix with cats before you got him? An older cat can jump out of the way, a kitten is defenseless. Cats and dogs do become good friend when they get to know each other. The magpie may have got caught or died naturally, young dogs do chase them. And yes dogs do chase and kill birds if they come in their yard. Magpies love dog food and bones. I,d say a stern word is needed. My young dog has chased our magpies when they pinch her left overs and I stop her. I now have chooks wondering around and I am very surprised at how good she is with them.
  20. She,s beautiful, I hope she returns to the happy bright eyed little pup in your first pic. Plenty of rest and tlc she improves each day.
  21. I,m so sorry you lost your dog. I lost one to lung cancer coming up 3 year ago. Its a silent killer isn't it, Only when she started coughing did we investigate but it was too late. Mine was only 10 y old, how old was Sophie?
  22. Are you talking acorns that have fallen on the ground? My daughter has a big tree that drops acorns and her dogs will not eat them. She rakes them up and puts them in the bin. I wouldn't think it be good for them.
  23. Just a thought, I,m sure your vet has eliminated Hemangiosarcoma of the spleen.
  24. Can the parvo spores be killed by heat? I wonder if laying plastic on the grass and left for the sun ( if it stops raining) to sterilize the ground?? This is done for certain weeds etc
