  1. It is a bush/cattle/bottle tick. Not a paralysis tick. We get them all the time on our dogs cats and cattle. The feed and drop off.
  2. I gave my late gsd (34kg) half a human grade 1500 mg glusosamine/Condroiton tablet daily crushed up in her food. My vet had told me that was the right dose for her size.A much cheaper than Sashas Blend and the likes. I also added fish oil to her diet.
  3. Lovely to see a picture young Cooper, what a good set of ears! I am quite partial to black GSD,s. I found they are a very hardy and longer living dog.
  4. I regularly visit the kids in Vic and take a dog with me. I,m on the coast so its a 2.5 hour trip to the Hume Highway. Last trip I left at 7am arrived central Vic around 4pm( after taking the wrong road) If you are travelling Sydney to Melbourne its a day trip if you leave before 7am. Its 4 lanes the whole way, once the Holbrook bypass is open it will be all freeway, 110k,s an hour. I stopped twice for doggie to walk around. Stopping overnight in my book is making it a very long road trip.
  5. Would stem sell therapy be of any value? Surgery would be my last resort. to you and Cooper.
  6. I got a gsd who can,t swim. I found out the hard way
  7. I,m sure the little guy appreciated the last two years of love and comfort that you gave him. Wander free Maggot
  8. Rayleen, Tried to PM you. I have someone who may be interested in the boxers.
  9. I couldnt agree more with Dogmad and her recipe of chicken, rice, sardines and good quality dry all mixed up.Throw in a few chicken necks, cheese & yogurt. I had a young gsd here who was rather underweight and could not handle raw food. It worked a treat and she put weight on fast. Winters coming and the poor baby needs some covering fast!
  10. I recently made two lots of dog biscuits. The liver based ones they love and the grain based ones they hate,so the chooks will eat them.

  13. Maybe he has hurt his back and just needs a few days quiet and rest.BTW one of those tick cases the dog had never left Queanbeyan... odd
  14. He hasnt got tick has he? I see you are in Canberra, know of two people who,s dogs had them and they hd not been to the coast!!
  15. I have a 14 month old with the same problem. She is a showline with the roached back, so I would say it is normal. After two weeks of swimming daily and walking twice a day she has improved no end.She is much stronger and you can see muscle developing. As yours is half the age I would say yes to swimming and short walks daily.
  16. I think there is a problem with the Pet Rescue website. Anybody here know the administrator of the site?
  17. If she is not in pain, still eating and generally happy then it is not her time. You can tell by their eyes when all is not well.I knew when my old girls time was up last year when she refused to eat and basically was not interested in things anymore. It came on suddenly and I nursed her for 2 weeks in which time she lost so much weight. My girl was nearly 14 which was old for a gsd, treasure every day you have her.
  18. Two names I wouldnt give my dogs are Mitt and Newt
  19. I may know of a home for him with another same sized poodle but its in NSW.
  20. There are many off leash dog beaches in Eurobodalla Shire on the NSW south coast. Broulee beach as mentioned earlier is a popular spot. In winter when the tourists go home you can have the beach to yourself! There are many wonderful off leash beaches in our area. This year is particulary bad for ticks with the local vet having approx 69 cases in December.Checking your cats and dogs daily becomes a habit, especially in a wetter than normal summer.
  21. The best thing I found for my 13 yo girl before she passed away was a piece of 4in thick memory foam from Clarke Rubber on which I put an overlay of egg cartoon type foam(cut from a single bed overlay). I had a suede cover made with velcro opening. It was easy for her to get up from, she could lay flat out if she desired. The foam is now 4 years old and shows no sign of compacting. It cost $40 back then for a 1 mt x 1mt square. All up around $70, not bad for a large bed that is still good today. I found a trampoline bed sagged in the middle and she had trouble getting out of it. PS, I also had a heated pad the same size to go over the top in winter.
